  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) It's an opportunity to complain about the organization and Robin during a frustrating season. If the team was winning, in the race, and Sale missed a start because he didn't like the uniform he'd be the one getting attacked for not being a team player and hurting *our* chances to win the division. This is where the focus should be. Not only did he cost us a start, but he destroyed our bullpen for the time being, which have seen ripple across the last two days of forcing the pen into a really bad situation and forcing guys to be unavailable to do their normal jobs. If Chris Sale doesn't get that you wear the promotional jersey on a promotional day, I'm not sure what else there really is to explain to the guy. This should be about the most obvious thing ever. If your boss tells you to wear something to work, you wear it. Period.
  2. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Why would you trade Gonzalez just to trade him? He has more value to the Sox than a team like the Marlins, especially if they move Sale or Quintana. It wouldn't be just to trade him. It would be to take advantage of a imbalanced market place on a guy that isn't really in your plans anyway. Honestly, I still expect him to self-destruct at any time.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Even though he's pitching well as of late that contract is sickening. If he's movable you have to move him. The return may not be strong (2-3 low level prospects) but his contract is too heavy on a team that already seems to have 4 set starters for next year in Sale, Q, Rodon, and Fulmer (Yes, I believe Sale and Q will remain Sox and they will) In 2016, $10 million a year for a starting pitcher isn't that much.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) The article states they pay $50 per day for food PLUS tip. Again, this seems so antiquated. Management pays players so they can pay management's other employees. "I'm going to pay you $200,000 per year. But *you* will pay the IT guy that supports you and the cleaning lady. The company isn't responsible for their salaries. And this is part of a multiple billion dollar organization?! And I thought you were a teacher...
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) It doesn't really matter. A 20 something year old man shouldn't act like that. There is nothing management should need to do to keep someone from acting like this. It is on him and him alone. He can be mad about it but no one should ever act like this. Seriously. How this is even a thing is beyond me.
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) Prior year salaries are not meaningless. From the CBA Maximum Salary Reduction (1) Maximum Salary Cut Rule A Club may not tender, sign or renew a Player under reserve to the Club pursuant to Article XX(A) of this Agreement and paragraph 10(a) of the Uniform Player's Contract to a Uniform Player's Contract that provides a salary for: (a) Major League service that constitutes a reduction in excess of 20% of his salary for Major League service in the previous season or in excess of 30% of his salary for Major League service two seasons prior to the first season covered by the new contract He isn't getting a paycut, which is what the provision is about. This is what is looked at. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=15864
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) That sounds right. Im not sure how much money or tips the kids would get in the pro shop but the baseball players give them a great deal of money and they want to make sure it goes to the kids and other clubbies. I think much of this has to do with sale and eaton being anti management and don't want them to influence even more things in the clubhouse. The money is all for the clubhouse and it all should stay in the clubhouse in their view. The management should stay out of it. Having worked in a pro shop, the kids kept all tips they got.
  8. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Also wouldn't be surprised to see Shields moved again, he has been pretty good after his first three disastrous outings here. Contract is very affordable now. On this market, if someone believes Shields is fixed that could be huge.
  9. High schools have already gone to if a kick breaks the plane of the end zone it is an automatic touchback.
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Right but I think Lillian's post was more concerning what his salary would be next year in his final arbitration year. And that number I think will be based off of the $5.1 million deal he signed and not the $1.25 million + major league minimum that he was actually paid this year. Arbitration is based off of comparable players. His salary this year is meaningless. They want to know what players in their 5th year got in comparison to the stats that the player and his comparisons have put up. If they offer arb, that is what will be looked at.
  11. It is really great to see the Latin players starting to push up that list. There are definitely some helium balloons in that bunch. Despite the meme about not overspending there, this team is getting talent into system via the July 2 signings.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Can't believe Miguel Gonzalez is getting trade interest, hope it grows, Kolek is almost absolutely not being dealt while Naylor is a major long shot I'd take RHPs Austin Brice and Cody Poteet for Miguel Kolek could be an interesting name. Maybe with the surgery they have interest in moving him instead of waiting to see if he is the same pitcher again.
  13. The prices are ridiculous right now. They aren't buying. At worst they don't sell.
  14. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) You don't speak out of school on this. Throwing Robin under the bus is completely inappropriate. Chris Sale made the big deal about keeping stuff in the clubhouse earlier this season, but here he is publicly throwing Ventura to the dogs.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:25 AM) 1.) I don't see it as "spin" - just an article citing pretty damned objectively what Sale said in his recent interview. 2.) It is a managers job to put his players in the best position to win. I'd say that's a pretty universally accepted objective part of managing a pro sports team as well. 3.) According to Sale - he brought up this uniform issue to the team during offseason fitting - stating then that, "he wouldn't wear them on his day to pitch." He brought it up the day before the game... Then again before the game on the day of. I just see this as new information. 4.) In the end - he still said what he did was wrong... And it was. I'm in no way defending Sale's actions - they were absurd. At this point thou - it's time to just f***ing move on. Hopefully Sale can use this in that way as well. Move on ( like he claims to be seeking to ) and respond more maturely next time. Or, f*** it -- just hire Eclhart Tolle as an "Ego Consultant" for the entire team. There, that's the best solution possible. They aren't going to change an entire promotion day just because Chris Sale doesn't like something. He needs to f***ing get over it, and realize that this is the stuff that pays his salary. He doesn't get a choice. There is no negotiations. This isn't an option.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:39 PM) They have pitched like utter s*** but you have to use them at some point and can't leave your starters out to dry. He was into the 7th inning with a shutout and in the mid 90's for pitches. He wasn't "left out to dry".
  17. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:41 PM) I think Robin needs to know his players better. You probably don't start the 7th with Miggy, he has always hit some type of wall. Try one of the rookies for a batter or two before expecting the moon from Albers. Why pitch to f***ing Rizzo there? He doesn't want to go to his pen, and with a really good reason.
  18. QUOTE (Green Line @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:35 PM) F*** THE CUBS
  19. 3 walk offs in two days has to be a record, right?
  20. Wow, he got it down nicely there.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) Rocket! I'm ok with the bunt here It is no win with Navarro. He has no bunting technique, but he can't hit either.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:25 PM) It's frustrating there was no compromise What is the compromise? It was a long term planned give away day. Of course you are wearing the jersey that day. Sale is an idiot to think otherwise.
  23. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) Well half the bullpen is injured also... I mean Hahn has whiffed a lot also don't get me wrong.. And Sale's act destroyed this pen for this week.
