White Sox will chase Jay Bruce
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) It really has nothing to do with Rick Hahn. Jerry Reinsdorf wants to add so they'll be adding. This concept is somehow really hard for people to figure out though. I honestly believe it is just easier to blame Kenny.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) I have heard multiple who work with Kaplan talk about him and he's apparently just a genuine awesome person with sources out the ears. He's a homer to special level. When your job revolves around giving compelling interviews with people, you should have more insight than the Cubs when it comes to those questions. If not, that is just lazy.

Anderson Nuggets
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) Anderson's call up is imminent. I think a much more likely scenario is that the Sox are talking about a trade for a SS.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) Kaplan asking Shields if he had any regrets picking SD over the Cubs while he is interviewing him as the newest White Sox. For.The.Love.Of..God. Dave Kaplan is the absolute laziest sports personality in Chicago.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) The Heyward one has to be a decent-sized concern (but isn't because the team is playing so well overall). Edwin Jackson, completely irrelevant. Like worrying about Carlos Marmol, S. Castro or Soriano at this point. Looking forward to your next list of failed White Sox players past...

Anderson Nuggets
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) It sounds like that's the intention - leave him in the minors where he can continue to develop; however, if the major league play at SS is sub-par offensively and the team continues to a bottom feeder in offensive stats, I think there could be a change of course. With Saladino giving them a lot of positives, I am really good with this. Part of this teams issue has been rushing position player instead of letting the players force the issue. As raw and Anderson was, I am very OK with letting him pound away at AAA for a season, and then calling him up in September. I'd really not rush him if we don't have to because of injury or something.

Anderson Nuggets
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) another nugget Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien 22s23 seconds ago Hahn on Tim Anderson: "In all probability, he's going to have to spend a year in Charlotte..He's done his part to force up that time frame." Sounds to me like the Sox are happy with Saladino, or have another player in their sights and are downplaying the need for a SS.

Rodon will skip a start
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) Connor McKnight @C1McKnight 24s24 seconds ago Chicago, IL Rodon will skip his Thursday start. Discomfort in neck. Went down to arm. MRI was clean. Muscular thing. Gonzalez will slide in. Which explains why Purke didn't get sent down.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
Re-reading the title of this thread... I have to laugh at how many completely odd turns this thread has taken.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Never heard that one. Aren't usually 16 though? They should have a good 4-5 years in the minors to learn. I have heard that said more than once by others.
-
Sands DFA'd; Coats optioned to AAA
Though I will say that I would expect with Gonzalez at the back of the pen, that Purke goes back to Charlotte for another position player (Sanchez is my guess) soon.

Sands DFA'd; Coats optioned to AAA
With as little playing time as he has seen lately, this isn't a big surprise for Sands.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Callis article on tough signs, Groome/JUCO, and the possibility that the Braves are looking to cut a deal at 3. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/182564040/dr...picid=151437456 Interesting. This could mean another year of sliding talent for the White Sox, in a year where they have the extra pick at 26 to take advantage of it. Hopefully it all works out.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) I dont think any of you need to be making this a personal thing. If the Sox are more important to someone else than they are to you, who are you to judge them? It's their lives and they are free to choose how they want to live it. I understand frustration with negativity, but a lot of people use message boards like these to commiserate with fellow fanatics. For you it may be a nuisance, for others it may therapy. Isn't it just best to block those that irritate you so your experience is more enjoyable? Definitely don't try to talk to or convince anyone to expose them to a different line of thinking.

Sox (29-28) vs Nats (34-23)
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Talk about a Cubs fan mentality That "mentality" allowed them to do the rebuild they just did. Boy, we are really showing ownership aren't we?

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) I can see that. I think working for so many different pro and amateur sports teams has taken some of the intensity out of my "must win" attitude. For years it was just keep them on the field or get them back ASAP. After awhile it becomes, is the one more win really worth all of this? I understand it it from the athletes and management point of view but from a long term health position it can be very different. At the end of the day, I can't see making a sport important enough (well without getting a paycheck from it) where it turns into something that I draw self-worth from. The game owns you at that point, and that just doesn't make sense to me.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) Hmmm, hard to tell reading your posts. The Sox are also one of the more prominent parts of my life, always have been and likely always will be, but I take such a different approach to things than you. But as you said, everyone is different. Just don't think pointing out every single negative thing helps the picture, really, and certainly sucks out the enjoyment (at least would for me). Yes, totally this.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) South: With respect that's your opinion. Your thinking isn't gospel and isn't set in stone from Moses. It depends on the individual. Again no offense, people are different, they have certain values and approach things differently. To me my passion for the White Sox is, was and always will be the third most important / prominent part of my life behind my wife and my son and his family. Mark It isn't gospel for sure. But in terms of it being a third priority in life, I will never understand that at all. Seeing something like that just blows my mind.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) I guess this is the difference. I still love the game of baseball. Win or lose I still enjoy watching and going to games. The games are more enjoyable when they win but really just love to watch baseball. Bingo. The games are entertainment, not life, death, or any of life's other problems. It is an escape from that. If it stresses you out, or angers you for any real period of time, you aren't getting out of it, what you should be getting out of it.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Your last point is very interesting. At the time I was among those who felt that if the Sox won the World Series and then sucked for the next ten years it would be worth it. Having (ironically) basically gone through that exact scenario, now I really wonder. The Sox from 1951-1967 were one of the best, most stable franchises in all of MLB. 17 straight winning seasons, seven of them with 90+ wins yet they only made the World Series once and lost it. To be perfectly honest with you if the devil offered me that scenario today I might very well take it...at least I'd see very good baseball and know that more than likely when the season was done the team was going to win a lot more games then they lost. I'd have to think hard about that one. And one final point, you're chances of winning the World Series are zero if you don't even make the playoffs. Those teams you mentioned at least had a shot to do so by making it. I'd gladly take my chances of the Sox not winning it if at least they could get there to try. Mark I remember how common that line of thought was in the early 2000's. You are quite literally the first person I have seen bring it up and say they might have been wrong about. Everyone else just pretends it never was said.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) This is like blaming the Jews for the Holocaust. If the Jews hadnt taken German jobs, then the Germans wouldnt have been mad at them. Shame on those Jews. The real problem is no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions. Who cares what the other side thinks, just because Trump may think idiotic things, doesnt make me all of a sudden change who I am to combat him. I think the actual reality is that the right convinced themselves that the left believes racism only works one way. I have yet to meet someone on the left who wouldnt concede that there can be racism against white people. But then again, I think the point that many on the left are actually making is: While racism may occur against white people, it is more prevalent against non-whites. The reason why Trump is so popular is because creating scapegoats is effective. There is a certain percentage of the population who are very willing to blame everyone else for their problems, who do not want to take accountability for their own position in life. Well see what happens in November. Bingo. You have also hit on the reason that Bernie Sanders has gotten as far as he has, and large share of the Democratic platform having been what it has been historically.

Sox (29-28) vs Nats (34-23)
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Well you certainly have. On the bright side, with all of these people who have given up, the game thread should be much better tonight.
