  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 5, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) Why??? This thread has over 10 pages so a lot of fans have an opinion on it. Isn't that the point of a message board?? Being a long time White Sox diehard, I do find it interesting. Since I live over 1,200 miles away I rarely see a Sox game live. So I am always wondering what happened to the White Sox fan base. They don't like hearing it, but the White Sox are on the further end of the Bandwagon scale. Its out there, but they need their list of demands met before they might show up.
  2. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 5, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) I don't know. Go ask someone who is holding such a grudge. That's why I asked you, Mr. 35 years.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) How similar is the situation in PR to the situation Argentina has been going through for a while? Argentina's problems almost all stem back to commodity price collapses. Their economy was basically built on oil and minerals. Puerto Rico is a huge debt problem. I want to say they have something like $80 billion in debt, by themselves.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) That is plenty offensive to the transgendered, Greg. And yea, I do blame you for being so bigoted that you cant even stand in line next to a transgendered person long enough to order a sandwich. Pretty sad, man. On the bright side, now we all have a legitimate reason to avoid greg.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Not so sure I agree with your logic here - as we're comparing apples to apples. Both pitchers were drafted the same year and both could be top prospects in the minors still. You are comparing a guy who is probably a 55-60 on the 80 scale now, and that is probably as high as he is going to get. Rodon probably has the same grade now, maybe a notch lower at most, with a 75-80 ceiling. Rodon did get to the majors quicker than Nola, and didn't have as much time to learn in the minors. Rodon's next start will be his 30th in the majors. Nola is at 20
  6. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 5, 2016 -> 07:39 AM) Rodon is slowly starting to drive me insane watching him pitch. Anyone who'd rather have Rodon over Nola right now is taking c razy pills There isn't a GM out there who would take Nola over Rodon, even knowing what they know today. Let's not get crazy. Remember, Rodon could easily still be in the minors as one of the top prospects in the game.
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) I thought we had to wait to bring Kahnle back up? Not if someone goes to the DL.
  8. Sure it would be nice to see them break the bank for the top guys, but if you look at how many Latin kids are in the bottom of our system who no one had any idea who they were when they signed, it is pretty impressive.
  9. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) I don't believe that for one second. If he goes out and give them 6 or 7 innings of 2 run ball they would be fools to not give him another start. Gonzalez was trash in his game and Turner has pitched in the Majors since 2014. I do. The Sox have had so many chances to get Johnson in the majors, and they seem to do everything they can to make it not happen. For example, how many times last year did they recall starting pitchers? They didn't call up Johnson until September. They could have slotted him as the #5 this winter, but instead they brought in both Turner and Latos, despite the questions around them. When they called up EJ the first time this year, he literally sat on the bench the whole time instead of pitching (even in garbage time), before they sent him down. I 100% believe that the White Sox have zero belief in Erik Johnson, I have no idea what the reason why is.
  10. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) That's definitely a must. Very cool. So much to do - you could spend an entire day there. Absolutely. I actually lived in the next town over from JSC from like 1st to 3rd grade. I went to school with kids whose dads worked in Mission Control on the Shuttle Program. I love it there, and can't wait to take my kids to see it
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Economics 101 would largely disagree with this postulate. The consumer doesn't invest in the product until the product is deemed worthy of doing so. The producer of the product must first invest in it in such a way that it is appealing to the consumer, after which the consumer will become loyal to the brand. Not the other way around. How many people do you think hold 35 year grudges against a product?
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) And that. He spends a lot of time taking the side of women usually, but then he will say some dumb s*** he had no business saying. He talks a big PC game, but every once in a while he let's his inner-sexist slip out. It has happened more than once, but... Dan Bernstein ‎@dan_bernstein @MattSpiegel670 I have no rooting interest in her work, but enjoy her giant boobs. 9:41 PM - 25 Mar 2015
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) Writing law around extreme edge case hypotheticals to the detriment of significantly more people seems like a bad idea imo. If a creep-o guy wants to troll womens' restrooms, that seems like an awful lot of hurdles to jump through to have some sort of really tenuous legal standing. Some would argue this whole thing is an extreme edge thing.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) Trump was talking about this and he kept talking about his business record (irrelevant obviously) and he says well, they have no choice but to declare bankruptcy. Yeah but that's the issue, they CAN'T declare bankruptcy, and he doesn't understand that, like he doesn't understand most things. He's actually leading the party who is blocking the effort to allow them to do so, on behalf of (surprise!) people who are in position to profit off Puerto Rico's debt. To be fair, there are bills out there to allow PR to essentially declare bankruptcy, being led by the US Tres Dept. While they can't now, it is definitely something that is on the table.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) The building I work in has had multiple Cinco de Mayo potlucks, and also at the same time, there is no more toilet paper in any of the restrooms. It is Mexico's revenge for turning Cinco into a stupid drinking game, complete with racist stereotypes.
  16. Steve Stone said on the broadcast that it could be as many as 5 more people getting suspended.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) Certainlyat that school because Sandusky took down Penn State. Good call, better shutdown college football too.
  18. Well if Johnson wants to prove the White Sox wrong, today is a great chance to do so.
  19. I loved his jinx moment last night on the Ortiz home run. He was saying something about the Sox controling Ortiz, and as it was coming out of his mouth Ortiz crushed his homer, and Benetti he just went "uh-oh".
  20. We obviously should end high school sports because Dennis Hastert used it as a gateway to molest little boys.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Heard the dumbest comment on Mully and Hanley today when they were interviewing Ozzie. I think it was Mully that said that even playoff games at the Cell don't take on a playoff-like atmosphere. The Sox fan base does stink during the season, but they definitely show up in the postseason and create a great atmosphere. Even something like the blackout game was insane.
  22. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) You'll see, I'm going to be right. Abreu can't lay off the breaking ball outside. I'm going to bump this up when he is in a slump, and I'll bump it at the end of the year when he puts up his worst year yet statistically. This post is disgusting. Most people who troll at least pretend not to get joy from misery.
  23. The fun part is that if Hillary doesn't kid off the whole birther movement, Donald Trump is probably some dude with a TV show.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) Part of it goes along with that argument from Cubs fans that no matter whether the White Sox teams are better, they're drawing more attendance (which of course is 40% a component of regional tourism and the historic nature of the stadium, day baseball, Harry Caray, babes in bikinis, yuppies on mobile phones, etc.) So there's that "White Sox fans are more blue collar argument" as well (according to ESPN's Greenberg, there's a split of about 5% more fans attending Cubs games possessing college degrees compared to the Sox), and then there's the prevailing stereotypes about the relative "danger-ness" of the area around USCF, which mostly goes back to the 70's and 1980's. Greg talks about this a lot, for example. Part of it is/was frustration with the original botched design and implementation of the new stadium plan compared to the other new stadiums like Camden Yards that arrived soon thereafter, as well as the complaints about the slant or rake of the upper deck. White Sox fans, over time, have gotten an "inferiority complex" about hearing these same arguments over and over again...and that's one of the reasons the threads are so polarizing, because the arguments are so predictable (and frustrating). Now you have the typical response that "well, stadium attendance is only 15-25% of typical revenue stream now for an MLB team, compared to the 40-60% it comprised in the past." And yet invariably, the local and national baseball media will note the low/er attendance in their game stories about Chicago and this will frustrate fans who ONLY want to focus on the positive start after three years of wandering blindly in the desert. No matter how many times fans write threads about how "family friendly" the stadium is, how much better the experience is (especially on Sundays), how "much more affordable tickets and how many great deals/discounts are currently available," there's that casual fan who felt burned maybe by their experiences from 2007-2009 (much higher prices after the World Series) and then just became apathetic in general because of no playoffs since 2008 and terrible, painful to watch teams from 2013-2015...which nobody wants to talk about or relive either, not when the White Sox have the 2nd best record in baseball and you can legitimately speculate about the Cubs and White Sox in the World Series again for the first time in nearly a decade. Too many Sox fans want to have it both ways. They want to complain about attendance and blame everything under the sun for it, but they also don't want anyone to mention attendance to Sox Fans, otherwise how dare they do it.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) You're right...sometimes it's the batting average that takes the 50 point drop instead. From a macro perspective: Ritchie Swisher Samardzija Edwin Jackson (to be fair he was never any better than mediocre; and he was mediocre with the Sox just like with everyone else). Vasquez - see Jackson Dunn Laroche And, dare I suggest, Frazier., so far...hopefully he turns around. The only ones that produced were Thome and Garcia and those were still dubious trades (Thome "allowed" KW to get rid of Frank - while produced .100 OPS points less than Thome, we were stuck with Anderson/Mackowiak instead of Rowand; Garcia was a rent...we could have signed him as a FA). And yet people are convinced that another such transaction is the golden key. It's madness. Heck, look what happened to the Astros after their acquisition of 2 "Elite" pieces, who suddenly aren't so elite. Wait, this was about walks and hitters, but half of that list is pitchers. Now show us all of the prospects that left that didn't fail.
