  1. The Sox can get top prospects if Jerry gives up cash, which is exactly what they turned down last winter from Cincy.
  2. If all of these guys do miraculously make it, there are plenty of OF spots up for grabs too. A guy like Carlson could translate to CF, Monty to a corner, and Bonny is already being mentioned as a future LF.
  3. Not to mention if their stuff slips at all, its over.
  4. So much of that open mindedness I keep reading about.
  5. Each team picked at least 40 other people to put on their 40 man rosters over the guys who were left unprotected. I am not sure what is confusing you here.
  6. Teel and Meidroth both came from the outside as well.
  7. I am encouraged that we have been able to improve things coming in from the outside for sure. I was just hoping for more of that same thing from guys on the inside. But I think when 10% of your roster is Rule 5 picks, that makes the point as to how many players are out there to vastly improve it.
  8. Again, I think this goes back to the OP. It is so hard to find gold in the Rule 5, that just by the sheer volume of what we have seen the past few years of picks, it is hard to see anything other than a major talent gap in the Sox system vs the rest of baseball.
  9. I wish you could do this once without resulting to insults, but here we are. Quite literally the teams that lost these players didn't think enough of them to put them on to their 40 man rosters. That is an absolute fact. No Baghdad Bob needed here. If they the only reason they didn't get protected is because they thought 29 other teams wouldn't think enough of them to pick them, then yes, they are making a judgement call that they aren't good enough to be rostered over other players they already have on their 40, even with the chance at getting picked.
  10. I think the point the OP was getting at is that out our 40 current man roster, 4 of them weren't good enough for the other teams 40 man rosters, including the fact that Smith and Vasil both were still good enough to make it through a full season with the White Sox. We couldn't even be bothered to protect a ton of eligible players, and only one of them was good enough to attract the attention of another franchise during the same time period. For my sense the "embarrassment" wouldn't be with finding other better players from other rosters, it is that the talent gap on the roster is so wide, that we keep finding the sheer amount of players who weren't good enough to be on other rosters, but are still able to replace much worse players on the Sox roster, and vastly improve it. That just screams lack of depth on our 40, at least to me. The historic returns on the Rule 5 are so minimal.
  11. If there really is a plan for Grant Taylor to eventually be a starter, calling him up to be a reliever this soon was so incredibly stupid. It just makes way more sense that we are being lied to about this in some for, whether it is to appease Taylor, or the fan base.
  12. He is quite literally correct. -A major league roster is 40 players. -The Brewers decided there were 40 other players in their system worth protecting other than Shane Smith. -For the White Sox, he was their front line starter and all-star.
  13. I think it goes to the way the Sox are messaging under Getz. There isn't a lot of consistency and clarity. Hahn kind of did the leagueese thing where he talked, but didn't really say anything. Getz will make a declarative statement, and then the next month is spent walking it back, or watering it down. Take the payroll talks this year. You can find just about anything you want to believe in their statements over the last month or so.
  14. And Vasil they aren't going to start either.
  15. Yes. This. It almost seems like they are trying to placate people, whether that is Taylor and his camp, or the fans, but if they really wanted to make Taylor a starter, they could have just kept him in the minors as a starter, you know, to build those innings.
  16. I was literally getting ready to say what he said didn't actually disqualify what you said.
  17. These things at a minimum have 8 months to be sorted out (the #1 pick). We got a full season of HS and college baseball to play to even KNOW who the #1 pick is going to be. Roch is probably on the Gordon Beckham track of a quick bounce through the minors, so as a 2026 pick, an early to mid 2027 arrival isn't crazy. If the pick becomes the HS kid, now we are probably looking at 2 to 3 years of building and waiting being something looking more like 2029 or so without a crazy flight through the minors. As to who plays what positions, FIRST off these guys all have to succeed at a level where you think of replacing one dude with another defensive, but also they have offensively succeed enough to make the majors. Monty had a horrendous slump last year, where he was so bad he had to be taken out of AAA and sent to Arizona to be rebuilt. We never really got a good explanation as to whether that was mental, or related to his back problems, to even start to get an idea of what the odds are it could surface again. Defensively he has looked better than advertised, but a dude who is a star defender could definitely move him. Carlson has yet to have a MiLB AB and as a raw hitter HS pick, is probably looking at a timeline of late 2028 to 29 if things go well. Maybe earlier if things go great, slower if he struggles to hit as a professional. Bonny has done nothing but hit so far, and could be on a late 2026 track if he continues to hit like this, but something in the mid 2027 isn't outrageous either if he progress slows a bit as expected as he hits the higher levels of the minors. His defense is definitely questioned.
  18. I said it previously that Adams isn't the type of dude that gets drafted while injured in the Rule 5 draft. I received many a lecture on why that wasn't true. In my defense, he wasn't drafted, so I ended up being right making the back and forth over this topic immaterial.
  19. Brady Aiken vs Carlos Rodon. Don't over think it just because dude is more of a known commodity.
