So I was under the impression that Bradens stock should be going UP. What's the reason for it dropping despite his performance. He's been one of the few really good hitters this season.

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale

Dude turns in one of the absolute worst stretches in the 125 year history of baseball and when some criticizes him you come running like Commissioner Gordon turned on the Bat Signal. There might be someone here with a weird Chris Getz obsession, but me thinks there is some projection happening. -

I think the greater point here is pretty clear, though the work to muddy the waters is definitely there. The Sox have completely failed in the development game for a long period of time now. While you can pull out the Kopech quotes that he didn't listen to the Sox (of course don't ask why that would happen), and leave out the ones where he quite literally states that the Dodgers changed some things too. While you can look at Andrew Vaughn and see that MIlwaukee made some pretty big changes there too It's leaving behind the bigger picture here. The Sox have a litany of players who their people have labeled as lazy, disinterested, and everything else, which is a perfect Venn overlay of the players who failed with some sort of expectations. The answer can't be that all of them were lazy and didn't listen. If you are a teacher, and your classes consistently don't perform and don't care, at some point you have ask how good you are as a teacher. Not every player comes to you understanding work ethic and what it takes to perform as a major leaguer. That is quite literally what coaches and Dev staffs are for. Many kids need to be taught work ethic, as their natural talent was enough to get by until their arrival at a level where everyone was that good. The Sox problems aren't all "make up" problems, as much as they would love us to believe that. Still to this date, we aren't really seeing changes in kids who saw both regimes, and our most successful players seem to be coming in from outside the organization. Those are red flags. -

Hey he worked hard when he picked one fact and ignored all of the rest of them. He's obviously right. -

It's all Kopech's fault It's all Anderson's fault It's all Vaughn's fault It's all Moncada's fault It's all Eloy's fault It's all Lynn's fault It's all Roberts fault The Sox have been giving us this song and dance for decades now... the question is all how far you want to go back as to who they were calling lazy. It's trope at this point. If you want to keep eating from this trough, feel free, but I am done. -

Pretty much outside of Shane Smith, I'd listen on any pitcher currently on the staff. -

It's a great hit tool, but it is a pretty empty one. I think pitchers will come after him more because of it as he ages. -

I am going to say it outloud. I am more excited for Brooks than I am about Chase. Feels like both more upside potential and positional flexibility once he settles in. -
They don't have enough hitting. Not even close. Don't fall for SSS.

Should we have been playing the kids, instead of playing shitty, washed up, old utility players? No, it's Hahns fault.

My guess is the second half leads to the first half, especially based on how many players get trashed by the Sox minions for work ethic, at the same time that Ex-Sox players are amazed at how much better it seems away from the Sox. It is valid to wonder how connected the two things are when they seem to keep happening over and over again, meanwhile survey after survey puts the Sox at the bottom of the league as a place to play. If true, have we ever stopped to ask why so many seemingly "lazy" players end up here? -
Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Twins paired together in future?
southsider2k5 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we have already started to see that in the last few years. I also think the slow walk from distinct leagues to intraleague, to making rules match between leagues has been a purposeful attempt to eventually radically change the teams in the leagues around to achieve more of a geographic balance while minimizing the "league history" factor as they do it. -
His stuff rebounding with some time off is a really good sign for him going forward. Season long conditioning is obviously a huge thing for him going forward, so as long as we can keep him going without hurting himself is important.

I am just going to say it outloud, none of these guys are ever going to be that great of pitchers. Outside of maybe Shane Smith, this rotation is loaded with guys who could top out in the middle of a rotation, but are probably back end guys at best. I know Keith Law had a Burke crush, but he's never looked like a front end guy. The bullpen is full of garbage and Grant Taylor. Taylor is learning on the job, and everyone else is doing what they do. Look at career numbers for these guys and tell me who is really out of line for that span. -
And Harris with the diving catch, because of course.

It feels like something that the Sox are the ones usually doing.

If they are going to use kids like this, start playing them like this in the minors to get used to it

Calling people names because they disagreed with you opinion is the definition of being offended. In general I am not sure when discussion boards turned into somewhere that people take it personally when their opinions aren't parrotted back at them, but apparently that's where Soxtalk is now too. Honestly it's depressing because the give and take here was always the best, but it seems like these days people take disagreements personally. -

And for the record, this is Barlolo Colon's career line. He averaged 1.2 hits per season. Yes, I am OK with giving up his one HR, so that a DH could have hit 15 to 20 HRs over that same period of ABs. -

And pitcher ABs end in failure at MUCH higher rate than a DH does. And yes, when you talk about pitchers hitting, that is quite literally the job of the DH. If pitchers hit, there is no DH.
