Miguel Cabrera
QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) I'm sorry guys, but we don't have NEARLY enough information about Miguel Cabrera's drinking habits to anoint him as an alcoholic. We know of one story where the guy was out boozing a bit later than he shouldn't have been before an important game. That may simply be an error in judgment, not a symptom of a disease. Yes, he also had an altercation with his wife, which is certainly not acceptable either. But I know a lot of guys who have gone out and had a few too many and then come home and argued with their wives. That makes them idiots, but not necessarily alcoholics. A lot of baseball players, especially latin or south american ballplayers, have not grown up in the best of situations and so they don't always know how to handle the money, fame, women, success that comes with their talents. Do they f*** up sometimes once they are put in that situation? Yes. Do they abuse their sudden popularity and wealth sometimes? Yes. Do they maybe think they are invincible because they have so much talent that they are able to do things most normal people would die to be able to do? Yes. So they are immediately branded an alcoholic once they do something stupid and alcohol is involved? I'm sorry, I am just not so quick to judge. I'd love to see the collection of alcoholics we have among us here, if that criteria is so easily fulfilled. I am pretty sure it has been more than once that has been reported. We have no idea what else has happened.

Miguel Cabrera
QUOTE (b-Rye @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) He's probably not an alchoholic... if your ever out with buddies at a bar and don't get drink (Unless your really an alchy who drinks everyday socially/alone or just get dumb everytime u drink), you got a problem. Or goes out and gets wasted before important days at work with your direct competition?

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Cowley>Soxnet.... Cowley has way more sources and is in the locker room, at games, etc. This feud is stupid. Cowley isn't even smart enough to be original. He is just borrowing Jay Mariottis persona because he knows he can't make it on his own. Call it what you want, but at least Soxnet can stand on its own merits. Cowley is so terrible he has to steal a schtick from the biggest asshole in Chicago.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) This is why I stopped following him on twitter. I don't care who he knows or what he writes, I will not read his stuff because he comes off a real jerk on twitter. I don't know him and he might be a good human, but he really needs to get off of twitter unless he wants to be disliked. I felt this long before any AGon rumor. I dropped him last year. Fortunately we have a lot of other good places to get Sox news and don't even need to look at his paper at all. Maybe he is angry about that. Drop him from twitter unless you want to be pissed off. I dropped him a long time ago. I didn't buy the ST until his predecessor was gone, and once Cowley decided that his only avenue to success was to try to imitate Mariotti, I quit buying it again. They are the national enquirer of Chicago news. That is their schtick. They know they can't out intellgent or report the Trib, so they out tabloid them. It is a garbage publication.

City Police Vehicles...Why the f***?...
QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) I agree wholeheartedly that a daily physical training program is key if done right, also that having fewer cops of high quality is much much better than having a ton of cops of a lower quality. No pun intended?

Olympics: Vancouver 2010 OFFICIAL THREAD
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 08:29 AM) And it was a game like that, which the NHL desperately needed. Suddenly people are talking about Hockey again, hell even ESPN Sportscenter ran with it at the top of its show, instead of some NY / Boston sports thing that no-one except those on the East Coast gives a crap about. Now they have a chance to push Hockey back into the mainstream. They need to market the hell out of Ovechkin, Crosby, Kane, Parise, Toews etc. which they have been doing, but they need to do it more. They need to market Hockey as the NBA markets basketball now. It's all about the stars. Ideally, a Chicago vs. Pittsburgh or Washington Stanley Cup would be ideal to help that process. Either one of those happenings would make me a happy human!

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) If there was a "Well on the way" page I would be on there a lot, for sure. Then again, I guess that's what the "Finer Things" page is. THat is just the old folks version of the "I am drunk", and can't handle it thread.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) There was even the rumor going around from Roenick that Huet was going to be sent back to Montreal for Jaroslav Halak. I would love to have a Halak / Niemi tandem going forward for the next couple of seasons. We just have to move Huet, somehow.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 08:18 AM) Eh I was rooting for Canada because they had more Blackhawks, so that's my logic. At least it was a game that people will remember for a long, long time and not a blowout. I will say this much. That was an incredible game. Great goaltending, great checking, physical game, with tons of drama, great plays and memorable moments. I know it hurts most that the US lost, but they played two awesome games against a team that had WAY more talent than our team did. The USA hockey program should be damned proud of what it did in Vancouver.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 06:59 AM) His new thing is being "exclusive" and taking shots at the Tribune. Of course when he's late to the dance like the Damon story, there is none of that BS. He's just an unproffessional Marriotti wantabee who is hoping his ridiculous comments land him an ESPN gig. I agree 100%. Anyone here could do Joe Cowley's job, and do it better.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) This just proves that Joe Cowley was wrong. We knew that months ago. When the extent of your writing ability is making fun of others, it is pretty much a guarantee that you aren't very good at your day job.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Honestly, I'd almost rather trade John Danks than Daniel Hudson in any Gonzalez/SD trade. With the way Danks1 has refused contract buyouts, he's almost certain to leave via free agency the first chance he gets. We do still have at least two more years of Danks, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him either dealt at the deadline if we are not in it, or after this season is over.
