  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) It's not like they weren't offering him a fair contract (multiple offers for that matter). All the deals were more than fair. His demands were to be paid the 20% max. With the position Atlanta is in as a franchise they can't pay him that. I'm the first to rip Waddell, but he made the right move with this one. The return is better than what people realize, especially considering it's a rental. And Cormier wasn't a throw-in, NJ didn't want to get rid of him despite the recent trangressions. Yeah, you knew teams were going to be lining up for a shot at Ilya for the Cup run. Atlanta didn't do too badly. It will be interesting to see if NJ does throw the big money at him.
  2. Predictions? For me Colts 31 Aints 23.
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) Wow. That's pretty rare, I would think. Can I ask a stupid question (sure, I do it all the time!!! ) - did you know your major right away? Was that part of it? I guess I'm fishing here because it seems to me that when I think back to my program, I was geared toward business and finance stuff even my soph. year. Of course, I had to take music, philosophy, etc. And even though I hated philosophy, and the biggest hippie ever taught it, I can clearly understand why that was in the curriculum, looking back. Back then, I thought, WTF am I having to do THIS CRAP for? But it's a way to create critical thought and diversity. Don't EVER justify philosophy. That class needs to die in a fire.
  4. Stolen from facebook Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?
  5. Wow. That is gutsy. Burn your bridges with everyone.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) So, let's see, which argument as to why that's stupid do I get to make? 1. The markets aren't the economy. The banks aren't the economy. They reflect it, but to base decisions on what is good for single-week stock market returns is ludicrous. 2. The banks aren't lending anyway. They're driving themselves into negative territory to pay out bonuses rather than lending. 3. Clearly, taking money away from the people who caused the bubble in the first place is a horrible thing. 4. It's frighteningly amazing how when the stock market falls in Obama's first month, it's 100% his fault. When the stock market rises 50% in the next year, none of the credit goes to Obama. But, Obama talks again on the banks this month...OH GOD WATCH OUT BELOW IT'S ALL HIS FAULT! 5. That whole correlation - causation thing. 6. It's an obvious asset bubble anyway. 7. Clearly, what you're arguing is that the more money the banks have, the more the market goes up, and the better we all are. Bail them out again! Like I said, you completely do not understand what is being talked about here. When people talk about someone moving a market, there is nothing to do with a trend here. It is a momentary reaction to words being stated. The fact that you came up with this mess tells me that you don't understand the differences between market timing and trends. Its not a day, not a week, not a month, not a year. It is immediate. The President says something, and the markets go a direction. THAT is what is being talked about. Seeing as how I spent years in actual trading crowds, and you just get to read about that stuff on HuffPo, I think I understand a little better what is being talked about there.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) And then he was approved and look what happened this week. It makes as much sense as Kap's point. And has exactly as much relevance to anything. Only if you are missing Kap's point.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) So he's not approved, the markets drop, he is approved, the markets drop. I believe Bernanke's existence therefore makes the markets drop. Once it was announced that he was going to clear cloture, the markets rallied.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) So, did y'all also notice how Bernanke's approval by the Senate also coincided with this downturn in the stock market? I blame him. Actually they started the sell off before that, in response to his potentially not getting reapproved.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) Waddell had absolutely no choice but to trade him. Yeah, you had to get something for him.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Of course, they alllll do it. That makes it all ok! Jesus, its wrong when anyone holds the entire Senate hostage for an earmark. I'm sorry that's so hard to understand. It's really not OK. But the manufactured outrage over something that has been going on a while now is a bit trite. The whole health bill got held up by a few Democrats looking for some goodies, and yet it turned into the Republicans killed the bill. Then one idiot takes it to the next level to get what he wants.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) Senator Shelby shuts down the Senate until he gets his earmarks. Thankfully, I'm sure he'll be called on this by all the people screaming about how bad the deficit is. Thankfully the Democrats led the way on this to prove that it works.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) Thanks for the thread knight. Mike I challenge you to a race and once again if I win I shall recieve your wife in compensation. How far is a 5K? That means to first base, right?
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Pretty much. Would YOU want to go play for the Nationals??? "Well, we offered him a steak on one plate and a bag of dog s*** on the other. We know he's hungry, and we think he's taking the steak, but we can't be positive since it's not a done deal yet." -douchebag on twitter Well that totally ignores the money issue.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) I think it's absurd that so many of you would consider him a fool for passing up an offer for more money. If the man decides to retire, I'm sure he's considered how much money he's already accumulated. The man has his own priorities, and he seems to have them straightened out pretty well. Mark Buehrle doesn't care about his career statistics or his chances at the Hall of Fame. He (probably) has more money than he, or his children, will ever need. He doesn't need to squeeze every last dime out of his playing career. I respect the hell out of him for that. This too. Good for Mark. I hope he does whatever makes him happy, and never looks back.
  16. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Supposedly they also went the route of offering him a 1 year deal to make him one of the top 2 or 3 players in the league... and he said no to that too. Well he has a legit chance of hoisting the Cup now. You can hardly fault him for that. He had zero chance of ever doing that in ATL, though that is probably the end for the Thrashers.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) If f***ing Orlando Hudson goes to the f***ing Twins I'm going to flip out. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) So pretty much what you've been doing for the last year or so? No biggie. TYVM
  18. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Uh oh, Palin didn't pay some taxes. SCANDALOUS! Well, she is now qualified to be in the Obama administration!
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Atlanta offered Kovalchuk a 12-year $101 million contract, and he said no thanks... Hopefully it is because the guy wants to win, which he would never do there.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Right. The government, even though they own this crap for the most part, knew nothing of these bonuses. I've got some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you as well. They totally knew about them. They had the payczar himself quoted as saying they couldn't stop them because they were contractually obligated to pay them... Which of course you never hear in the headlines.

I thought he was going to run one... I am a whole lot less interested in this thread now...
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) is this some local angle I'm not understanding? I heard a report this morning that the CTS facility in Elkhart is worried because CTS ? Canda built many of the systems in question and if CTS is in trouble, it could trickle to them. LaHood is a Daley guy.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) I'm on the bandwagon that something is up with Sayid. His voice was obviously different when he "woke up". Love the Lostpedia forums. Differences on Alt flights. 1. Hurley thinks he is lucky 2. Theory that Sun and Jin are NOT married. Worker at LAX calls Sun Ms. Paik and no wedding rings. 3. Desmond, duh. 4. Sawyer? 5. Kate? More? I totally missed that!
  24. We are in the middle of watching the first season of HIMYM on DVD, and are looking for the next seasons. If anyone has them on DVD and wants to get rid of them let me know! Otherwise I am just going to get on Ebay or Half.com. I'd rather send the money to someone hear who wants to get rid of them.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 08:55 AM) I actually think he's serious as well. I'd be sad, but not at all surprised if he actually does retire when his contract is up Of all players to believe when they talk about quitting early, Mark would be at the top of the list. After all this is a guy who pretty obviously took a lot less money and years to stay in Chicago with the Sox. Obviously money isn't everything to him.
