  1. Awesome. Hopefully some people are taking note here, as this for them...
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) There's a difference between make a gaffe here and there and being consistently stupid. Yeah, and then there is Joe Biden...
  3. And yet, Joe Biden is our VP now...
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:16 PM) The best guaranteed? No. Could be by far the best? Yes. Could be... Yeah. But I would put the Yankees and Red Sox over us right now.
  5. Nice methodical victory for the boys tonight... and so starts the march to Vancouver.
  6. THE best? No. One of the best? They should be.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) I was surprised when I saw those defensive numbers displayed. Very surprised. It sure looks a lot easier without Garnett and Davis, and a whole helping of Scalabrini...
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) The best method of bowling is the southsider2k5 method. The drunker you get, the higher the score. And you don't get a really good score until you're puking.
  9. That first minute of play was terrible from Columbus.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Interesting list. Cabrera is the ultimate "Coop will fix 'em" guy except I don't think anyone can. Still a good signing. Is he still having horrible arm problems? ( I can't remember if it was shoulder or elbow)
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Lucy? That's surprising. They need the catchers early in camp.
  12. Full list from the link.... The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on minor-league contracts with right-handed pitchers Greg Aquino and Daniel Cabrera, left-handed pitcher Erick Threets, infielder Freddie Bynum and outfielder Jason Botts. The Cabrera signing is new. Stats: Cabrera. Stats for others: Bynum, Botts, Aquino, Threets. Those 5 were invited to Spring Training. Also, Jordan Danks, Jared Mitchell, Brent Morel, and C.J. Retherford highlight the 10 players within the Sox system that were invited to Spring Training.
  13. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) and to get this back on white sox baseball, although staying in a negative light, i sometimes think we have cubs fans on this board pretending to be sox fans. at least that is what some of your baseball opinions show me. juan pierre is not the worst hitter on this team. period. you can throw all the stats at it all day long, but he will be a valuable member of this team, and at worst a disapointment at $4 mil a year, which isnt going to kill us. pods is one injury away from being done and one bad streak away from being back looking for a minor league job. not to mention he's 20 feet away from the fly ball about to hit the ground he misplayed. i love the guy and what he's done but im sure they gave him a reasonable offer to come back, and he decided to move on. what he took on the market now doesnt mean the sox didnt offer that much. look at what polanco got, if he signed now he might only get half that, and he signed about 2 months ago? if it's true that dye is looking for 3 million 1 year, then I say we take that route. i dont see him being through and he's perfect for the cell. he wants to play some field...earn it. you're gonna have to beat out some decent fielders, JD, so earn it. otherwise we've got a rotating DH. i ask this next thing for all sox fans who understand the game. please stop pretending that you know something because some computer stat system or projection method tells you something. the making of a successful team is much more complex than you think it is. let kenny and ozzie, who have more GM and managing experience than the rest of us will ever have, COMBINED, do their jobs and try to bring us another world series. go sox Dye didn't ask for that amount. It was offered by Texas and he didn't take it.
  14. I know it means nothing, but Mitch Daniels was on my station this morning and he said he wasn't running in 2012. For the record, I don't believe it.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) In some instances, it has to be the government. We are a society of laws. Allowing businesses to look after themselves has led to unsafe working conditions, slavery, and a host of other problems that only government could solve. Actually it was our government who protected slavery in the constitution.
  16. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) Get away with what? Having sex? In regard to this suit the chick is the problem, so what Shaq and many others had sex with her. HIs divorce is his and his wifes buisness, not this whackjob psycho star banger of a female. And what idiots like Shaq don't realize is if he would have kept in his pants, it would have stayed that way.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) LOL, this canard again. Time for me to be the one to call it quits here. I'm out. And if you don't like that one, how about inforcing the laws we already have and trust-busting companies that are too big to fail?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) Yes they do. Once they're large enough that they know their death would pose a "Systemic risk". This is the whole "To big to fail" discussion in a nutshell. Goldman Sachs right now knows implicitly that they can't be allowed to fall, because they'll take every single other bank in the country with them. Thus, they're gambling even bigger than they were in 2007. Those gambles then feed right back into the bonus/compensation issue we've been off on today? Can you offer a solution to "Too big to fail", a key point in all of this, through the private sector? And why did they get too big to fail? Because they government offered them incentive and backing if they did. Again, brilliant. You notice their was no such thing as subprime lending until the federal government set up companies to do it, and showed the rest of the sector exactly how profitable it was.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:44 AM) And alternatively, I believe it's a situation where they've insulated themselves from accountability so well that there is no way that any corporation can solve it on its own, and furthermore it's actually a situation that has affected all of us through incentivizing short term gains with no punishment for substantial long-term losses. And why is that? Because they know the government is going to protect them. Its the exact reason the whole banking crisis happened in the first place, starting right at Freddie and Fannie, and their bribes of people like Barney Frank. So at the end of the day, it is the precious federal government that is very literally subsidizing all of the wreckless behavior that you are so worried about. You know what solves that problem? Stop the federal governments involvement. If corporations die, they don't take those chances.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) So I ask then...if you're willing to admit it's something that needs "solved"...who else is there to solve it? The difference is, I believe it is the corporations own problem to solve. If they don't solve it, they should suffer the financial consequences.
  21. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) 2012 would be his first of just two arbitration years. Yeah, because his forth year of his contract takes care of what would have been his first year of arbit.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) And the private sector has? The public isn't obligated to the private sector. They are obligated to the public sector. We literally paid people to make sure that we gave CEO's the tools to get tons more money. Genius. I can't wait until the next problem is solved by the federal government.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) Interesting note on this topic... One of the natural flaws in corporate governance via the public markets that I (and others) have pointed out before, is the fact that Boards are too intertwined with the companies they are supposed to control. Another is that shareholders weren't doing what they were supposed to do in the ideal market - keep corporations' over compensation of their executives in check. These two things combined to give us executives that have pay which has risen far more than would be natural or expected in the past decade or two. Well, with executive pay getting SO extreme now, there have been signs lately that shareholders are finally holding their companies to the fire. Not often, but occasionally. Yesterday's example: John Deere. Yeah, the government did a great job solving that problem
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) I guess we should have signed him, then included him in an A-Gon trade. Or starting the speculation that Dye is going to play 1B for the Padres next year...
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) Actually, for a lot of them, AT&T, Home Depot, etc., have put $200-$300 million in private pockets of their CEO's as retirement compensation packages. And send billions home for pork packages, or trillions for stimulus bills?
