Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Is fighting allowed on the international level or in olympics hockey?I honestly don't know... Not in the Olympics. International is very vague, as there are a million different leagues with their own sets of rules.

Leno going back to Late Night
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) with so much depressing s*** going on, do you really blame people for wanting to do something fun? Like being depressed by watching reality TV, and thinking that those people actually exist?

White Sox agree to terms with Tony Pena
I wonder what this means for Danks... Are negotiations going that badly, or are they trying to work out something long term, so it is taking longer???

Paulie Wants to Stay in Town
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) That's what I still hope for. I could see him hitting .280 with 30 HR as a full time DH. Haven't most of his thumb issues stemmed from fielding? Plus, he can still field, so in a pinch he could start at 1B. Sounded to me like his worst issue was getting jammed on the riding fastball on his fists.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) There have been illegal and unprosecuted firings in 30% of attempted unionizations over the past few years. Over 90% of employees go through closed-door anti-union sessions during attempted unionization movements. 50% of companies/offices face threats of closure because of union organizing. Unionization processes typically are drawn out for years even when union organizers do everything correct and legal. Penalties have been stripped back so far that they're less than a slap on teh wrist. According to a Human Rights Watch report: I'd be more than willing to admit that a card-check plan could be the wrong way to go. But the playing field ABSOLUTELY needs some leveling in favor of workers and to say it isn't is simply to ignore reality. The last 30 years it's gone the other way, and it's gone quite a bit too far. Companies have the absolute right to react to things that threaten their profitability. They also have the right to do what they want with the time they are paying people to be there. If they want to waste it on preaching to their employees, again that is their right. It is just as much of a right to those who are trying to put them through the wringer to get them to unionize.

Dye talking to Cubs and Padres
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Probably the two worst fits for Dye in all of baseball. San Diego's outfield is just so damn spacious, and RF at Wrigley is an extremely difficult position to play. From what we saw from Dye the last few years, I don't think he'd take too kindly to playing 3 times a week. I like Dye well enough, but I wouldn't be entirely upset if he landed on the north side, just for that reason.

Leno going back to Late Night
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) Seriously? Because there's nothing else going on that matters. It would be interesting if this country were half as much into politics as it is into TV...

No Soxtalk Awards?
The biggest problem is that it takes a lot of time to organize this, take all of the nominations, think of the awards, and all of the other stuff that goes with it. No one really has time.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 06:09 AM) I don't follow hockey as much as I used to as a little kid but really, I could do without the fighting, it cheapens the sport in my opinion... Its a part of the game. Honestly this fight was pretty important as it really seemed to shift the momentum of the game back to Detroit.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Or you can go back and read the article in Baseball America before the 2008 season where he talked about losing 30 pounds, and check his stats the following season. Dude needs to go either on Oprah, or to see Marion Jones's doctor...

Non-Roster Invites
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) I wonder if they weren't thinking of giving him a shot when they let DJ walk. It really didn't make much sense on its own at the time. Either they thought there were big bargains they could find after the rest of the league spun out their no contract offers, or they though the two million he was supposedly looking for was crazy. Apparently if he could only find a two way offer from the Pirates, I think the Sox were pretty spot on.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) And there's never been violence or intimidation to keep workers and unions under control. Going out and literally giving a mark to people who refuse to join unions is only going to put a bullseye on them for the organized violence that we have been seeing all over the country at any event that is perceived as anti-union. Instead of giving general targets, you are going to be providing these groups with specific names. I guess from your point of view that is just evening the playing field or something.

How Is The Economy Today?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) If that's the case, then you guys who have been such naysayers for months apparently forgot this. The Dow has been steadily trending up since last March, and is up about 60% during that time period. It also doesn't mean that it is always right, but it happened to be right this time.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Card check was exposed to the public for what it was, a blatent power grab and attempt to be able to use intimidation to increase union rolls, and it failed because many of the congresscritters couldn't stand the heat. Because we all know there is no history of organized violence and intimidation by unions to try to get what they want...

Non-Roster Invites
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) any guesses on who might be a surprise to break camp with the big league team? my long shot = Jordan Danks Daniel Cabrera in the DJ Carrasco role.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) is it just me or did Versteeg win the fight?? The way the announcers talked they talked like Eaves won and i was wondering if they saw the same fight. That pissed me off Versteeg beat his ass in the open of the fight.

How Is The Economy Today?
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) so when unemployment was 7-8% and the DOW dropped to 7500 in Nov 2008, things were just aces? The Dow is a forward indicator. And guess what, it was pretty damned right on.
