  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) They traded for Teahan because they wanted to move Beckham to second. Getz is limited because he can only play second and Fields had worn out his welcome here and shown he couldn't play third. I'm not huge fan of extending Teahan, but was there a better option at third for the money? I'm not so sure. Vizquel was signed in part as a mentor for Ramirez. Ramirez had problems with the nuances of the position so the Sox are hoping Vizquel can help smooth out those rough edges, besides he's still a good glove at three positions something they also needed. Putz won't be the third man out of the pen if Jenks falters. Coco Crisp is on the verge of signing for $5M with the A's. The Pierre deal isn't the overpay it appeared to be. As far as Nick Johnson goes, it's folly to think the Yankees would lose out on a player they wanted over 500K. If the Sox wanted him who knows how much they'd have to offer him. And Beckham for that matter.
  2. Well that is one way to avenge a loss. I wonder what finally woke this team up?
  3. It is nice to see the offense getting back into gear. I can't wait for the game tonight.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Also throw in that Buehrle negotiated his deal to essentially make him untradeable, since if he's traded he get's $19 million. Buehrle isn't tradable anyway. You are not going to trade the face of your franchise after a losing season, unless you plan on a full overhaul.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) You were joking, but where would any team be without individual stats? Individual stats are the effect of how well a team plays, not the cause. A better question is where would the individual stats be without any team?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Your insistence on trying to rip me for every post I make is making you not even pay attention to what I write. As I said, I didn't blame Cooper for Contreras' failures, but getting excited because of this notion that Cooper fixes everyone is silly. There have been plenty of guys that haven't exactly panned out. That's because no one has ever actually said Cooper fixes everyone. The argument is dumb, because you are attributing things as fact, which aren't. And honestly, with the same three things that you repeat over and over and over again, I hardly ever respond anymore, because it is fully pointless.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) It wasn't even a failure. Its well known that part of what Coop preaches is taking a few ticks of speed, in order to get better consistency in delivery and location. Its part of his philosophy. so any uptick in velocity going elsewhere is simply indicative of a different style. DId everyone forget about Contreras the Yankees, and the first few years Jose was here?
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) I'd rather have a big tent. That's what she said...
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Oh, ok then, it has NOTHING to do with money. You need to wake up and realize its ALWAYS about money. Period. You may proceed living in fantasy land now. If it had nothing to do with money, but most importantly JOBS, this would have been done decades ago.
  10. It is being reported that Lovie WILL be back in 2010.
  11. All I saw was the SO, but it is two points, which is nice.
  12. Yes we have quit. You guys should quit following the Sox now, so you don't have to lose sleep over the next season.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Nowhere near? Hudson threw 165.3 innings last year. It's not out of the question. Especially because the recommened jump is 25-30 IP per year.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) I read an interesting quote from Contreras who I read was throwing 95 when he went to Colorado. He said wherever he went, he wanted to take the Colo. pitching coach with him. I'm not blaming Coop for Contreras, but this notiion that he fixes everyone is silly. OMG no he had a failure! We should stop trading for anything but completely self-contained pitchers!
  15. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) http://finance.yahoo.com/news/36-states-re...set=&ccode= The key sentence... "We're not that far from a point where job gains will outweigh job losses, but that's not enough to reduce the unemployment rate," he said So in other words, people still are getting laid off more than they are being hired, plus there are all of the new people entering who aren't able to collect unemployment and be counted.
  16. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Zetterberg out at least 2 weeks with a slight separated shoulder. That's huge for the Hawks. Wings players have been dropping like crazy, and they are still within striking distance.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Maya? Is that like Cher? More like Miguel...
  18. Too big to be able to play video games effectively? Wow.
  19. Big week of hockey here for the Hawks. A lot of tough games for the boys, including a home and home with Detroit and Nashville. Time to open this division up? Man I hope so.
  20. Before anyone else said it... This is a 100% Don Cooper special right here.
  21. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Why? Why is it a bad thing for him to publicly say he likes the players he has? What possible harm can that cause? I can't think of one real, good reason he shouldn't say that. Once again, I think this is a case of people unnecessarily freaking out over something Ozzie says. I'm certain they both would like to have another hitter at this point, but it doesn't mean they'll find one. And I think the last thing you should want is for them to go into the season and say publicly, "this team we have is ok, but we wish we could've gotten another hitter." Not exactly the best way to set the tone of confidence in your club to start the year. It looks to me like they're just setting this up in case it doesn't happen. And I think they should at least say they believe in their team. So true. And exactly the way that they operate.
  22. Zoinks, don't forget about Phil!
  23. Belushi was too. Tragic ends for both.
  24. Thank God. It makes the Cubs worse, and it doesn't free up any money.
