  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Crede's time in Chicago was absolutely done in 2008 and it may have been a bit past due. It doesn't change the fact that his contributions will go down as monumental in the history of the franchise, and he is always going to have a free beer waiting for him anywhere he goes in Chicago. If there is someone who was a dick to the franchise during his final year and the subsequent departure and then signing with a rival team, it was Maggs. There were reports that the Sox had offered him a 4-year, $60 mill deal in the spring of '04, only to have that turned down. He then fired his agent, signed with Boras (who had an even worse relationship with the team at that point), went overseas to have a knee surgery, and then came back and signed a deal with Detroit for only one more guaranteed year (though 2 option years). That's more of a dick move than anything Crede ever did. Not to mention he lied to the organization about the surgery and pissed on the organization after all of that crap.
  2. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) Bouquets of roses for an under-achieving .230 hitter for us, yet I am the one who is jaded. Don't get me wrong, I included Joe on this list, I recognize him as one of the greatest 3B defenders for a good stretch in the mid-90's. The Sox kept sticking with him, strikeout after strikeout. I can accept the lovefest in Soxdom for Rowand and now Crede will never go away, but I actually missed Rowand. So I assume that all of you think it was right to ditch his teammates in the playoffs? Didn't hear any peeps about that. You are about 25 points too low there, not to mention that Joe didn't play an inning of major league baseball in the 90's.
  3. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Acquire Johnson for DH Trade Quentin for Bradley(+$11M) & Marmol Pierre Beckham Johnson Konerko Bradley Rios AJ Alexei Teahan You had better keep drinking...
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) I got a feeling that when the dust settles, we'll see Milton Bradley DH'ing. You had better take that feeling out to the woodshed and beat it into submission...
  5. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) I'm glad people are coming around on this idea. I doubt they'd straight up eat that much, but what about sending them Linebrink? There is so much more to teh game of baseball than statistics. Milton Bradley is living proof of that.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) I will say that I'd rather have one ace (Peavy) and three above average starters (Buehrle, Danks, Floyd) over a dominant 1-2 anytime (unless that 1-2 is something freakish like '01 Johnson/Schilling). You will win a lot more games in the long run that way.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) So we can just continue use our illegal surveillance on US citizens, arrest whoever we want for whatever reason, and lock them up indefinitely? Sounds like a great plan. Or we can just randomly sort them according to whatever logic fits the public opinion best at the moment.
  8. American beat DePaul last night? Wow.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) I'm not saying there's no skill involved, I just have Toews better because of the skill/luck ratio. You'd be surprised how many hockey players could catch and hit a puck out of mid air, and conversely how often he couldn't repeat the "shot" portion again. What luck was there on the Toews goal exactly? He torched every last one of them. Easy. If one of the defenders, or the goalie moves into him, instead of standing still, the play is over. Yes he had a ton of skill to put those moves on, but Toews needed a bit of luck to ensure the chance at the goal, the same with Hossa.
  10. He'd be a fit according to our philosophy lately, but I doubt we'd drop that much cash right now.
  11. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) I remember watching that game. I already despised Jerry Manuel by this point and to watch Paniagua go out there and give up hit and walks with a big lead, I don't know, rarely do you literally see the momentum shift like I did that night. Man I was pissed. Here's the game log: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...200309090.shtml 1/3 IP 3 H 1 BB 4 ER And one finger...
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 05:18 AM) Well if it's 1-2 punches, I could see how the Sox would be left off. Let's face it. As much as we all adore Buehrle, he's not, nor has he ever been, elite. He's just very good. I'd take all those guys listed (aside from probably Hamels/Burnett) over Mark without hesitation. And Danks and Floyd aren't better than Burnett and Hamels, even with Hamels having an off year. Now if ESPN was doing top rotations overall and the White Sox were left off, then you would have a legitimate beef. And yes, the 2008 draft should go down as the best of the decade. And you didn't even mention Tim Beckham, Brian Matusz and, the guy who I believe will be the best player from this draft, Pedro Alvarez. I agree fully. Peavy belongs on that list, but none of Buehrle, Floyd, or Danks is quite in that top aces argument.
  13. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:39 AM) Why are you always so convinced of an ulterior motive? Do you really think 100 people sat down and worked out this crazy plan where 41 of them were going to vote against the bill and 59 of them would vote for it. So then in an effort to secure all necessary votes a bunch of senators would get fat paychecks for their constituents. But, for how incredibly complicated a plan like that is and how organized/intelligent those 100 people would need to be, they write a terrible healthcare bill for yucks just to say they passed something so they can all get reelected. I think the US Senate are much better at their jobs than people give them credit for (especially individually), but I can assure you that body doesn't work well together on anything... much less a crazy tinfoil hat plan like what you're suggesting. Why are you always playing the role of the contrarian?
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) Here is the problem with protectionism. Say we protect these American companies, or companies doing business here in America...fine. I agree this sounds great on the surface. But let's fast forward 10 years. Let's pretend its 2019...and everything is going well, everything is recovered. Now what? I'm glad you asked...so I'll tell you what... The same companies we protected during a crisis will begin to raise their prices to increase their profit margins...because they can...I mean, after all...people have money again! Oh, and if that's not enough, they start shipping the jobs overseas for cheaper labor, kinda like they've been doing, because Americans get paid too much. This is the problem with protectionism in regard to privately owned businesses. This is the exact kind of crap that happens in the long term. We protect them now when they need us, but when they don't need us, BELIEVE ME, they'll do whatever they can to make more money off of you/save themselves money. f*** protecting private companies. Except this would have been a temporary thing, which kind blows up the whole 10 year argument.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) Agreed. I'm not buying KW doing this yet. But Ozzie needs to STFU and let Kenny and the upper management make the decisions. Now.. if somehow KW agrees with Ozzie, Tyler Flowers better be getting alot of at bats to develop. Other than maybe Kotsay, I don't trust Jones/Vizquel/etc.. to do much. (not counting bunting (sac./drag/whatever) - Vizquel, homers - Jones) All he did was buy him some negotiating space. That's all.
  16. A waste of a draft pick, if you ask me.
  17. You guy believe Kenny Williams? Really?
  18. Jerry Owens signs with Washington. I know everyone is upset.
  19. Curry sucks. Eddy that is.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) In no "particular" order... Andy Gonzalez Jon Rauch Mike "Action" Jackson Alex Rios (so far) Mark Johnson Danny Wright Gary Glover (though bullpen didn't help his era) Boone Logan Jim Parque (as much flack as Wells has taken, his whip was still lower than Butter's "good" season) Royce Clayton Joe Borchard Jerry Owens Mike Porzio Matt Ginter Rick White Nick Masset Roberto Alomar (our "old" version) I couldn't stop at 10.. I know he was bad defensively, but I can't believe D'Angelo Jimenez (decent offensive numbers) is on people's list. Then again.. I have Royce Clayton (good defensively, horrid offensively) on mine so I guess it's justified. Jimenez was the wrong combination of lazy and stupid. That rubs lots of people the wrong way.
  21. Evan Bayh is an arrogant, dismissive dick. I can say that on a 100% personal basis, and nothing to do with idiology.
