'TIME' Person Of The Year
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Should have been Obama. Noble Peace prize, Person of the Year, Greatest Person to Have Lived Since Jesus - all much deserved praise. (half kidding) After all, he full intended to fix the economy...

Financial News
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Well let's not get over the top here. Also, the problem isn't so much the regulations themselves, as the enforcement or lack thereof, due to problems of scope, departmental competition, etc. You know this. As for Glass-Steagall, I am actually on the fence. Not sure what I think. I mean, part of the reason you WANT banks to be in multiple lines, is that it helps their stability. That is, as long as they are using reasonably risk management practices, and properly showing risk when valuing their books. If they are doing that, then being in multiple lines is actually better for everyone involved. The problem is if they aren't doing risk management correctly, then when they fail, its a much bigger impact with these enormous firms than it otherwise would be. Sorry if I count enforcement as a part of regulation. What is the part of having rules, if you aren't going to enforce them. It is the same as the parent who repeats the same idol threat 50 times to their kid. After about the 3rd or 4th time, the kid figures out the parent isn't serious. As for the second part, people aren't thinking at all of the liquidity of stocks, and the massive stock sell that it will take to get banks out of stocks. But hey, what is a 401K anyway, right? I am sure the government will come out with another bailout to cover up for their failures, again...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) I am glad you recognize the need for some amount of regulation. We are wasting billions of dollars a year on it, it would be nice to get SOMETHING out of it.

Top Ten White Sox of the Decade
QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) People have always been super quick to dismiss on how big of a dick Joe was before he left. Anyone remember on how we was left off the playoff roster and then didn't even hang around or go to Tampa to watch the series or be a part of the team? How about the numerous requests for surgery, only to be ignored by Joe each and every time with the great advice he continued to trust Boras with. Crede signed with the Twins on purpose. There were other teams that were interested, but it didn't take long for Joe to decide that he would be most happy to sleep with the enemy. I'm quite sure he was happier than a pig eating s*** when he went deep in his first AB back at the Cell. Thanks for the memories, but screw you Joe Crede. You lost me at Joe Crede being a dick.

State of the Pen: With Putz In, Carrasco Out
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Since Carrasco is gone, would you guys be okay with Hudson as long relief our would you want him to be down in the minors starting to gain more experience? It is going to be Santos versus Hudson for the last spot, I believe. I do think the Sox will bring in another arm or two as the off-season winds down, and people get desperate for jobs.

White Sox NOT in attendance for Chapman workout
QUOTE (Sox72 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) It's possible they feel they've done all the scouting they need to on this guy, as he's beginning to price out of their range. Or maybe they just don't want any Hispanic players on the team. Que lastima

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) Yes it is. After he whined about attendance and cried poor last year, weeks before acquiring Peavy and Rios, I'll never believe a thing he says for public consumption again. That's what good GMs do. This has happened soooo many times under Kenny Williams, you can't believe a word the guys tells you.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Let banks be "too big to fail" and so interwoven that we're forced to choose between global economic meltdown or bailing them out for their ineptitude, what a great idea! Speaking of ineptitude, if the government did half of the regulating that it promised over the last 80 years, we wouldn't be anywhere near the problems that we have had.

Mayor Daley Goes off on 2016 Bid Volunteers
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) Daley and idiot friends did not get to hose the Illinois taxpayer to dam bad Ritchie! Because why did Illinois want things like jobs and infrastructure improvements. Those are for other people!

Here is your factoid of the day to totally depress you... Since George Halas retired, the Bears have never hired a coach with any NFL head coaching experience.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 07:37 AM) If KW is being straight, this is not encouraging. From the Sun Times: "Ozzie and I have been speaking on that, and we spoke on it again [Tuesday],'' Williams said of the DH spot. "Right now, what he would like to do is sit where we are right now because he likes flexibility with the DH position, whether it be a guy getting a break or keeping your bench players fresh. Guys like [Andruw] Jones, [Mark] Kotsay, [Omar] Vizquel, getting [Paul] Konerko off of his feet and getting into the DH spot ... he likes the flexibility that comes with it. "I've given him some names - this is a very critical last thing on our list. I certainly don't want to do anything from my seat that conflicts with what my manager wants, so regardless if I think there may be a need for a bigger left-handed bat in the middle of the lineup, he's the one in there and I fully support how he and his coaching staff see the situation fitting. That's something we'll continue to think about.'' KW already trying to deflect blame a la trading for Sandy Alomar for the 12th time if it doesn't work out. He's the GM. If he thinks the team would be better with another bat, its his job to get another bat. If there are no additions, Greg Walker is going to get more heat than ever before. He is giving himself leverage in negotiations. It is vintage Kenny.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) w sox are always trying to get better but if means including names of beckham, both danks etc. there not going to do that. if anything w sox will try unload contract of limbrink so they can spend on free agents. by no means do i think w sox are royals but payroll is up and not really any wiggle room Until John Danks signs an extention, he is more and more likely with each passing day to get included in some sort of blockbuster. If Dan Hudson emerges, it could be sooner versus later.

AGon discussion, et. al.
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) Ken Rosenthal reports the Sox are in hot pursuit of Adrian Gonzalez. The Red Sox that is. If they want him, they are in the drivers seat after the Lackey deal.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Oh good, I only read the trade blurb on Yahoo and Rotoworld and they indicated that Pierre would play CF. It'll be interesting to see who has the better numbers next season b/w Podsednik and Pierre also. Chicago radio said all day long that it would be LF.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) I will say for a team that supposedly has no money, shelling out $82 million for Rios, Pierre and Teahan is curious at best. I'm pretty sure I'd trade those 3 for John Lackey. And then go out with De Aza, Fields, and who in your starting line up?

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) I find it bizarre that with each move the Sox make, they get a little better, and yet the posts in PHT get more and more over-the-top mad. I'd think it would be the reverse. Weird. We do still need one more bat upgrade, at DH or elsewhere, though. And a backup C, though I think we have options in house for that which I'd be fine with. What happens with that extra bat, though, I think will give us the best picture of the offseason overall. Word. No we aren't getting superstars, but the team is getting better with each move. We should all know by now that the Sox don't have a lot of money to spend, so we aren't going out and getting a big named guy, unless their price plummets, and they like freezing their ass off during April.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) Matsui hit .282 against LHP and .271 against RHP last season. Thome hit .209 against LHP and .262 against RHP last season. Matsui also hit 50 points higher with RISP, and doesn't seem to injure himself every time he runs out a ground ball. Thome wouldn't see nearly the amount of LHP this year with the depth of the bench.

Hello, it's nice to meet you. My name is Devil's Advocate.
QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) Quentin replaces Dye in RF. That's an upgrade, *if* TCQ is healthy. Andruw Jones replaces Dewayne Wise as a bench outfielder. That's an upgrade. Kotsay replaces Brian Anderson as a bench outfielder. Upgrade. Juan Pierre replaces Pods as a starting outfielder (RF). That should be a small upgrade. Rios replaces the centerfielder-of-the-month that we've had since Rowand left. Upgrade. Vizquel replaces Brent Lillibridge as backup infielder. Need I say more. Peavy + Garcia replace Contreras + Colon in the rotation. Major upgrade. Putz joins the pen, replacing someone. Upgrade, if Putz is healthy. The only area that's gotten weaker is DH, with the rotating-DH likely producing less output than Thome. I think Kenny is having a good offseason / late season of 2009. Nice work. It might be incremental, but this is a better team than we saw on October 1st, let alone even July 1st.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) They've totally debunked the myth that you can't contend every year AND have a strong farm. Their payroll is also about 50% larger than ours.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Kenny's the one that's floating the idea of a rotating DH which is sure to be Kotsay and Jones heavy. Because Kenny is always up front and honest about who and what is going after...

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) The Sox would probably have to move Jenks first because it's not very likely that the Nats are going to eat any of that money. More likely Konerko.
