  1. Quite sure the game threads are the place to be [/green]
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) Sure, but you figure that's stuff you leave behind once you finally get married and start a family.
  3. Oh I beg to differ.
  4. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) It was Denmark. and I was just kidding I'll take World Geography for $200 Alex.
  5. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) I think that's the first time you've ever used the words "I am happy" and Obama in the same sentence. Nice! If I am nothing else, I am honest. I can criticize who I like when they are wrong, and give credit to those I don't like when they are right. Barack Obama did the right thing by going to Switzerland.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) I think he felt it would be over the top. Plus., there ARE more important issues to deal with. This is 2009, not 1809. The President doesn't need to be present to know exactly what is going on anymore. It was lame when McCain did it during the election, and it was lame when Obama started to use that as an excuse for not cheerleading the Olympics.
  7. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) In case what happened happens. It was a pretty unprecedented step for the US. But I think, a good one nonetheless. Say what you want about where I stand on the issue, but I love the idea of a high ranking government official try to win support for an initiative that would bring a lot of new jobs to the US in a time where employment is such a big issue. And I think I'd like that no matter who was in office. I would have been madder if he didn't go and we won. The President should be the nations biggest cheerleader, especially when an event is going to happen in his backyard. The results should be damned. I am very happy Obama went.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Chuck Todd just said as stated earlier, Chicago political ties in Chicago that are connected with White House (Daley, R Emanuel, I'm looking at you) basically cornered Obama into going and Obama didn't really want to. He stated he thought it would be overkill and Chicago was being too over the top with the situation and they were twisting his arm. Todd ended up saying, If Chicago needs another favor from the White House or the president, they probably should hold off on asking because the president wasn't too happy on going in the first place. Why would Obama not want to go? I'd like to hear that reasoning.
  9. 21 straight months of job losses. 9.8% unemployment, and the talk around the markets is quickly getting much darker.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Hell, he's talented enough that if he keeps his head in the game and gets his swing fixed up, he could still actually be a bargain. 30/30 hitters in CF don't exactly grow on trees. Especially ones with his defensive skill set.
  11. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) Since when was anyone talking about the Monday night game that you had to come into the thread and bring your s*** opinion in? Tired of seeing all the s*** posts like this ragging on GB, we get the point, you don't think they are that good. I don't think the Bears are that good but I don't say jack s*** about them, no. What do you expect, Favre is the best player in the game and he is playing his former team. Anything beats watching ESPN hype the stupid Cowboys and their stadium, bit sick of hearing analysts talk about how good that team is and Jerry Jones and the gang. I think the Monday night game "might" be close, do I expect GB to win, no, but I would be stoked if they do, but I wasn't expecting them to win wk 1 or even lose wk 2. The game ultimately hinges on both teams offensive lines as they are not that great. Who knows, emotions can change the game, Favre I'm sure would like to beat GB and I'm sure GB would love to stick it to Favre. Here's an idea. Find a board with Green Bay fans. You might get some more people who care about the Packers on somewhere that doesn't revolve around Chicago.
  12. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) I think it sucks that Madrid lasted longer than the US in the voting consideration. But, the US does get a lot of games. The US had the Olympics in 80, 84, 96, and 02. They were even awarded the Winter games in 76 but then Denver gave up the bid in 1972. Canada got the games in 76, 88 and 10. North America has received games for 1/3 of the Olympic games over a forty year period, as a part of the globe, we've had a greater opportunity to host than most. It really is South America's turn and I hope Rio gets it. As cool as it would have been to have a Chicago games. Here is the arrogant American in me... We also fund a lot of the games. The IOC doesn't exist if it isn't for all of those Americans they now seem to hate.
  13. We couldn't even come together for an olympic bid. There is no way they would come together on something huge anymore, unless it became necessary.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) He will be kinda old. Don't worry, Patrick has been being groomed for politics since his parents bailed him out of jail from out my way when he was in high school.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) I hope the US sponsors pull all of their money. Screw the Olympics. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) Nah IOC has to give the US games if they want the US sponsor money. Do you really think that all of the US sponsors are going to continue to fund the Olympics if we arent getting games? The answer is no. Two really good posts. Chicago losing in the first round totally kills my interest in the Olympics. I hope Rio gets it and looks like s*** in the process. Yeah, I am bitter right now, but there is no good reason for Chicago's bid to be lesser than Madrid and Tokyo. F the IOC. They are a bunch of corrupt old men.
  16. Don't be such a kiss up.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Does this mean all those people who Letterman ridiculed for being promiscuous, get to guest host for the next two weeks? The irony is that Letterman would be making a field day out of this if the person had a D or R behind their name. Instead he feels sorry for himself.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Trib says that the announcement of the first vote, if no one gets 50% (likely), and who gets dropped, will be at 10:10am Chicago time. Tokyo or Madrid first?
  19. QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) When is his contract due? After trading Brandon Allen, who is the leading candidate to take over 1B once Korneko is not longer with the team? I know Viciedo may be a possibility. Anybody else? Thanks, Next year is Paulie's last under contract. As for 1B, I am guessing Viciedo or Flowers heads the list, but I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at other LH possibilities.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) The Sox have alot of money including the parking revenue and to cry whoa is me from KW is old and a tired arguement! They also have a one hundred million dollar payroll. The cheap argument is an even older and more tired argument.
  21. Hmm, so maybe Beckham is going to be the surprise player traded now? [/green]
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) They are essentially unrelated, although it's always possible that the slight effect of passing seismic waves from one event could trigger a second at a long distance. But that only is really going to be possible if the fault is already primed to go. In that case, it could just have easily been set off by the tides. Or a passing butterfly. Whatever. The Samoa quake is completely removed from the area that broke in 2004 and is a totally distinct system. The Indonesia quake is almost certainly related at least in a technical sense; it takes years after a quake as big as the 2004 event(s) for seismic activity to return to normal (aftershocks go down exponentially with time after a big event) and the technical definition of an aftershock is that it is an earthquake that occurs within 2 rupture-lengths of the initial event before seismicity has returned to normal background levels. The rupture length in 2004 was from India down through Sumatra, like 1000+ KM, so basically every event there for the next 10 years could be considered an aftershock in a technical sense. The other way to think about it...the 2004 event(s) involved substantial motion and reorganizing of the current stress fields. Those events will have changed the stress state in many areas nearby, and thus, made some more primed for failure. This one probably relates in that sense. Interesting. So theorhetically, we could still be setting up even bigger quakes than what we just saw. I was also curious if you thought this meant we could see more volcanic activity in the region because of these quakes, or if the quakes were a result of that?
  23. xanthippe religion teacher chases him through the hallway in his underwear.
  24. QUOTE (The Bones @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 01:19 AM) The Office tonight was one of the best in a long time. The co-manager story arch looks like it should work much, much better than the horrible Michael Scott Paper Company idea last year. I also like when they keep the episode inside of the office. Looks like next week is the wedding. The preview just reminded me of all the classic episodes from season 1-3 ("The Dundies" "Booze Cruise" "Casino Night"). I don't think it will ever get back to being as consistently good as it was then but tonight's episode gave me hope that it won't be as ridiculously over-the-top as it was for much of season 4 and 5. Also, when's Todd Packer coming back? I would pay to see him crash Pam's wedding. You mustve seen the replay of the Todd Packer bachelor party episode the other day too. God that was classic, as was the wedding...
