Vazquez and Swisher Redux
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) Then we never should have made the trade with the Yankees. Equal returns or bust. For a guy with the balloon contract he has, and the way he hit in 2008, we got an equal return just by not having to pay any money on his contract.

Jenks, Floyd, Carrasco done for the year - possibly Buehrle
And a minor league free agent at that. Really nice find by Kenny, and a great job by the Sox staff of fixing him, and finding the perfect role for him

Mets claim Jack Egbert off waivers...
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 12:06 AM) I think you're right. Like Balta said, we always seem to have a guy or two, but unlike players like Jay Marshall and stuff, we've got a few this year that could actually go somewhere and really compete for a job. Some of our better or bigger name prospects/non-prospects that should be eligible for the Rule-5 this year should we not add them to the roster: Brandon Hynick Brian Omogrosso Kyle McCulloch Matt Long Christian Marrero Anthony Carter John Shelby Justin Cassell Lee Cruz Tyson Corley Garrett Johnson Stefan Gartrell Jordan Cheetham Fernando Hernandez Derek Rodriguez Beyond that, both Wes Whisler and Donny Lucy should be free agents. I also believe that if Carlos Torres were to be removed from the 40-man then he too would be a minor league free agent (but he'd have to go through waivers anyway) so I could see the Sox making a decision between Torres and Hynick, since neither should project to join our staff. So clearly we've got a few guys here. Hynick, Marrero, Shelby, and Gartrell would be my guesses. I don't think anyone else gets added. It's a shame about Omogrosso because not only would he have been added to our roster, but he'd have had a great shot at making the ballclub next year. Edit: Actually Justin Edwards won't be involved as he signed at 18. So I'm taking him off the list here. Realistically, how many of those guys would have a chance of being picked? Gartrell, but I am sure he is going on the 40. Derek Rod could be drafted again, but he was quickly returned to the Sox. Besides that? Maybe Hynick, but I have to imagine he has a pretty good chance of going onto the 40 as well.

Rays to trade Upton or Crawford
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) Getz and Upton? Really? QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) My point is that Upton is having a Getz-like year, not that he has Chris Getz's ceiling. So then you admit you are wasting your time making a comparison you don't even believe. That's what we need is more inane arguments on Soxtalk.

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) Hopefully Lily's 1 RBI this season (on a weak chopper that *almost* would have made it to 3B if it hadn't been muffed by the fielder) is enough for Kenny to move him to another team for a bag of balls. Hopefully Lillibridge has been sitting next to Pods on the bench and taking it all in. He could be a solid major leaguer if he would learn how to use his ability to its maximum potential, and mimicing Pods is the way for him.

Danks looked as good as he has all year long. Too bad it took until game 156.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) How does one not get Richard Simmons like giddy when thinking about a Peavy/Buehrle/Danks/Floyd/Garcia/Hudson starting rotation next year? It is the thing that makes me think we can compete next year.

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Some of these players don't realize how smart it is to take an offer like that. He'd have 120 million dollars which is plenty. My god. And once he retires, he's guaranteed to actually have something to do the rest of his life, like be a broadcaster, a special liason to the team, or whatever. The team will employ him forever like the Royals do in giving George Brett money for no reason. He signs that contract in Minny and he's set for life money wise and enjoyment of life wise. Hopping from team to team is overrated when you get an offer like he just got. Why leave Minnesota?? It'd very stupid of him. 120 mill is enough. That is actually a pretty good point with the knees he has.

Vazquez and Swisher Redux
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) But Rios will wake up in a Sox uniform? Sounds like that is wishful thinking as well as Swisher offensively has outproduced Rios over the course of their careers. And the numbers a page or so back prove that. I guess people don't play defense anymore?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Illinois and Indiana are both covered. This is an extension to the extension... you get 26 weeks, then 20 more, then yet another 13 weeks. What did you have to do to get the extentions? I am almost there.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Also, apparently UNM head coach Mike Locksley punched their receivers coach. This season just gets crazier by the day. I am guessing this used to happen more often than we ever knew... We just have more ways about finding out about these things today.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) There will be anyway...involving the clinic. I hope they throw those "doctors" in pound-you-in-the-ass prison. Yeah, I was going more for the custody side of things, but I am sure the docs and the clinic are done for.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Some might blame Walker A change of scenery sure has helped Juan. I still maintain he is a very good glove man though. I'd be willing to bet the offense takes a big drop off next year if he stays in the same place. This is the third team he has been with, and the third time he started out like gangbangers.

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) I got this info from a pretty solid source, but by word of mouth. There is an initial round of voting, and the results would be announced at 11am Chicago time on Friday from that. Then the horse-trading and second round occur, supposedly resulting in a final vote by 3pm. But, the rule is a vote plurality - it takes as many rounds as needed to get 50% for someone. So I suppose its possible that someone could get over 50% ont he first vote, but apparently that is very rare. It looks like they drop the low vote city after each round and then re-vote, until someone breaks that 50%. I would imagine that this means will will have three rounds, or until we get down to two cities.
