St. Louis
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) St. Louis is one of my favorite cities. I'm sure you will have fun there. I rank it above Chicago personally. [puts on blocked poster list]

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) So yeah, this ought to be put here. The interesting thing is that if Bradley would have ended this season on the DL, 2011 became an option with a buyout of $2 million. I don't get why they didn't do it.

Peavy claims to be ready
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Just seen this on MLBTR....I wouldn't do this deal. The latest from John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus: Seems like pure speculation, but a Jake Peavy for Carlos Zambrano deal this offseason would not surprise some in Chicago. That is just dumb. We aren't trading a better pitcher, for a nutcase with a worse contract.

KC @ Sox, 1:05. CSN
Lost in all of this was a very nice job by Freddy. I tell you what, when he comes back next spring another six months away from shoulder surgery, if he adds any velocity, this rotation will be air tight, and might have a very good chance at being the best in baseball.

Sox had 3rd best farm system record in 2009
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Not bad. I hope that translates well in the future. But, the minor league playoff record...ouch! Following the minor league teams was much less frustrating this year than following the Sox. Hopefully this isn't reminiscent of 2000's minor league system...

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) So, this risks falling into the "TMI" category, but my wife and me both woke up a few mins before the alarm this morning so we started having sex and about 5 minutes into it my 2-year old son woke up early and walks his happy ass into the room and climbs up in the bed with us. I was like WTF lil dude, why now? Your son is what is known as a "cockblocker". This is a very serious condition amongst males. Luckily you have caught it early and can take corrective steps before it affects his social standing.

The Official Put the Voodoo Devil Curse on the Tigers Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Even with Morneau down, the Twins are not f***ing around. I believe they've won 6 in a row. They smell blood, and the Tigers fans are very worried of a potential choke job. They should be... they suck.

Tyler Perry sitcoms
My rule of thumb is that if none of the commercials for a show can make me laugh at all, it probably isn't worth watching. So far that has been working pretty well for me.

Peavy claims to be ready
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) I have a feeling Floyd could be our best pitcher next year. All 4 of his pitches are nasty, and when his curveball is on, he is unhittable. Gavin Floyd has the highest ceiling of anyone who started on the Sox in April 2009. To me, that isn't a big limb you are walking out on.

Peavy claims to be ready
Not a bad outing. You could tell he wasn't very crisp, and had some control issues, but the guy throws nothing straight. If he can spot that slider, it's on.

Its a shame the Sox aren't playing worth a s***, because they could be running away with this division.

Peavy claims to be ready
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Floyd has alternated between really, really, ridiculously nasty and not so good. He was terrible in April and for the better part of May. Just hammered every time out. Then June rolled around and suddenly he was on a roll, and he had an ERA around 1 for about a month and a half. He's struggled a bit on the road, notably, especially these last couple weeks. But there have been some magnificent performances from Floyd this year. If you could knock off that April/May, his name would legitimately be up there in the top 5 in the Cy Young voting. The hip injury explains a lot of that. It makes it hard to get a solid torque during the wind up meaning you aren't getting full velocity and/or break.

Fangraphs article on Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Some kind of hybrid of Pablo Sandoval, Carlos Lee and Prince Fielder. Does he have the range and arm to become a LF?

Fangraphs article on Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) All the writer basically said is that Viciedo didn't hit for a ton of power numbers-wise and that he's only 20. Personally I don't get the purpose of writing about a prospect if you don't have any information to share. I wouldn't say the assessment is harsh because the writer didn't really make one, but I would say the piece was pointless and also contradictory. How can you put Viciedo in the "dud" column when you admit you don't know s*** about him and then you go on to say the sky is the limit for him? That doesn't make any sense. The minors are about development first with production being secondary and you don't need to put up big numbers to advance levels. I don't know where it was, but I remember reading something (possibly here?) that said something to the effect of, "beware of prospects who are all scouting reports with little production." And when I read that I had to laugh, because shouldn't people be far more concerned with minor league players who are very productive but yet scouts are constantly down on them? I was thinking almost the exact same thing... Where's the beef? The guy basically took a couple of stats and turned it into an article. Meh.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) The big cheese hasn't totally committed yet, but the Service is doing the preparations in case he can "Find time away from the Health Care debate" to go. That so sounds like Barack is pulling a John McCain...

Sox consider shutting down Floyd and Buehrle
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Nolan Ryan once threw 259 pitches in one game. Pitchers used to make 40 starts a year and would go well over 100 pitches. BTW, Ryan also has 3300 more IP than Buerhle, and he's now president of Texas, and is trying to get away from pitch counts. Your fewer pitches is crazy. Hawk compares Buerhle to Catfish Hunter. The most batters Buerhle ever faced in a season was 1016 in 2004. Hunter faced more batters than 1016 8 times. Nolan Ryan and Catfish Hunter were also trained for that. Its the equivalent of saying that someone in 1968 ran the marathon, so Usain Bolt should be able to run the marathon. These guys are trained differently, and aren't set up to give that kind of distance in a game.

Sox consider shutting down Floyd and Buehrle
If Buerhle isn't hurt, what difference is one or two starts going to make in 2010? We are talking about 15 IP tops. It makes sense with Floyd so that he doesn't worsen an injury, or hurt himself trying to over compensate for the injury, but why Buehrle?

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) I find it interesting that some people would rather trust a for profit insurance company instead of the government in these matters. Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/17/i...a_n_289841.html Here is the dirty secret, the government does this all of the time. Why do you think the rate of denials for first time filers for Social Security Disability is over 50%?

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 08:41 AM) And if one party does manage to do something new and innovative, from good or evil, you can be damn certain the other party will do it as soon as they get a chance; and they will sit around thinking how stupid they were for not thinking of it first. After they claim the other party is evil or wrong for doing it...
