7/3 Game Thread Sox @ Kansas City 7:10pm CSN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Seriously, if the rotation can stay in this groove, there's no reason to keep the extra LHP in the bullpen if Quentin comes back. Hold Wise and Anderson and send down Gobble; gives you an OF bat/PH/PR from both sides of the plate. As long as we keep Poreda or Carrasco fresh for Clayton's starts, I wouldn't mind another option off of the bench.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) 56 pitches through 4 for JDanksy. The nice thing is that the pen has worked 1.2 IP in the last three games. They have gotten a nice break.

I think we are seeing the book develop on Nix. Keep the ball away from him, as his power seems to be when he turns and burns.

Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
The funny thing is that if it is really the continued pressures of being one of the main targets of the national democrats, they just screwed themselves, because Palin winning the GOP nomination would have been the best possible thing to ever happen to them winning again in 2012.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) I hate the song, but I'm in the minority. My buddy who works at the UC tells me it's a big hit with the higher-ups and it's not going anywhere. So I will continue to mute the TV when they score and just suffer through it when I'm at the UC. Its popular, being old you are morally obligated to hate it now

The Economy, stupid
Am I the only one who remembers the forced expansion and invention of programs with only temporary funding in the stimulus package?

Cowley Says it's time to trade Anderson
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) The biggest issue I have with Anderson is his terrible approach with RISP. With his defense, I'd be ok with .235 batting average if he would deliver with some RBIs once in a while. For example, Beckham in about half (167-83) as many ABs has more RBI (15-11)

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) A long time? Most of it is out the door in the 2nd half of 2009 and 2010. Why might that be a good thing? You think job losses are going to stop before then? The only things that could get out the door by now are: the tax cuts and aid to states. The tax cuts have already taken effect (the largest tax cut in history actually...would be several times the size of the Bush tax cuts if they lasted 10 years). The problem with tax cuts is; they're crappy stimulus. Which is why they're having only a limited impact. Exactly as predicted. The part that could be out the door right now that would have been a more effective stimulus...significant aid to state governments, was hacked by the Senate in favor of this year's AMT reform, which would have been passed anyway...because we needed to get the stimulus in under the arbitrary $800 billion figure to get the 3 Republicans to vote for it. The construction/rebuilding dollars are starting to hit right now. There should have been more of them, but clearly I'm not allowed to blame the people who wanted the stimulus shrunk for some reason. It'll make some difference later this year, but as a few of us said back then, there should have been a lot more of it. And permanent spending increase? Seriously, by the CBO numbers, 80% is out the door by 2010. Virtually all of the rest is out the door by 2012, and that part is spent on upgrades to the electricity grid. Care to back up your point with something harder than a talking point? Um, unfunded mandates? And again, spending in 2010 is doing NOTHING to stem the recession today. If the money had been done the right way, you might not have needed the spending in 2012. And if you did, you would have had the option to tailor it around what you needed. Instead you are locked into Obama's plan, for better or for worse. It's also really trite to blame the minority party for everything, when they have zero control over anything. They got the blame when they were in power, and now they get the blame if they were out of power. If they had that much ability to control everything, why did we end up with the plan the Democrats largely wanted? GMAB.

Cowley Says it's time to trade Anderson
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Anderson's had very little value ever since the start of 2006. At this point, he's more valuable as a defensive replacement than as a trade chip. Thank you. I agree 100%. If he had any value, he would have been traded a long time ago. That is Kenny's style.

No Alexei again... interesting.- The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) So wait, it's a bad thing that the stimulus wasn't fast enough, and it's a bad thing that the stimulus had to be rushed through? Its two different things. They rushed the package through, even thought the majority of the spending wasn't for a long time. A true stimulus would have been geared towards now, not later. And it wouldn't have handicapped the government into having no ability to do anything again, because of a ginormous expansion of permanent spending, which by definition is not a stimulus plan, it is a spending plan.- Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) I think there's a distinct difference between the two. One is moving on to something new, the other is quitting an elected position in the middle of your term. Doesn't it set up easy "will she just quit the presidency half way through if it gets too hard?" rhetoric from her opponents? It could also set up, "It isn't fair my fellow Alaskans for me to be unable to fully fulfill my duties to them, as running for President is a full time job." as well. They are both loads of crap.- Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Bill Kristol on Fox is trying to spin this into a positive for her. Shrewd political move and all. "Just saw the opening of the 2012 campaign" Wouldn't it be incredibly easy to beat her over the head for abandoning her elected post? More and more candidates are trying it. John Edwards comes to mind right away, though most have just not run for re-election.- Cowley Says it's time to trade Anderson
QUOTE (shakes @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) It's an interesting thought, but right now I think they need the outfield depth, and I think he would bring very little in a trade. I've given up believing he will ever be more than a 4th or 5th outfielder. The offseason would be a better time for this. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-joe03.article Its great to be a writer. Now if he would actually talk about who would want him, and what they would give up, you might be able to call this "journalism".- Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Juicy scandal brewing? Hopefully... That way she can not be considered a front runner for President, like some like to think.- Films Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Anyone else plan to see Public Enemies? I will once it hits DVD. I am curious to see the local sites, as they filmed parts of it in Hammond IN.- Sears (Willis) Tower to Open "The Ledge"
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) That'd be f***in awesome to try. I can't wait to try it.- Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
I don't know if it has been said or not, but I love the Madden signing. This is a guy who lives and breathes playoff hockey. The Hawks biggest fault is not putting up 60 minutes a night, and guys like this ( a 4 time Selke finalist) go a long way towards teaching these kids how to play. - 7/3 Game Thread Sox @ Kansas City 7:10pm CSN
