  1. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Is it too late for his momma to have an abortion??? Really? That is pretty ignorant, even as a joke.
  2. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) And Wyatt Allen. And Rob Purvis. And Rocky Biddle. Etc. Bulls***. It is about more than failed prospects. Danny Wright is a perfect comparison. Wright was a guy who had horrible ERA and W-L at the college level, but had great strikeout numbers. They took and him and made a couple of mechanical changes, and he became an effective major leaguer until be blew out his shoulder. It would have really been interesting to see what Wright did if his shoulder didn't give out.
  3. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Unfortunately, I really can't tell you any more about Morgado than you can probably find in a scouting report or gather for yourself since I don't know the guy personally or anything. He looked pretty promising as a redshirt freshman for us in '08 when he was our Saturday starter. Everyone thought that he was just gonna tear it up this year considering he had a year of experience under his belt and his really good stuff. Unfortunately, he underperformed and got moved to the 'pen. But, our whole team underperformed so I'm not sure it's not coaching that has caused problems for us. I mean, literally, almost every single player underachieved for Tennessee this year (particularly the pitching staff - e.g. Nick Hernandez, Morgado). Look at Kentrail Davis too. He was a Comp A round pick after his numbers went down in almost every category. I think that shows he has a ton of talent, but we didn't have the coaching to develop/harness it. Anyway, when Morgado is on, he can just flat out overpower hitters, and that's evidenced by his 75 Ks in 52.1 IP. I really see this like a Daniel Hudson pick from last year where the guy has great stuff but bad numbers following a good year. I love the pick. Oh, and from what I've been told, his mechanics are a bit screwy. Sounds like the perfect project for the other Sox minor league instructors and then Perdew when he hits that level. Sounds a lot like Danny Wright.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Agreed, but I mean for the next 100 games or so, he'll probably bring it up every game. It was a very peculiar play all around, as I think Hawk thought Wise was safe and that his run tied the game. It is a f***ing huge game. The series is tied at a game apiece, and it is the difference between being 3.5 and 5.5 games out. Why would you diminish how important tonight is???
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) He lost yesterday also He "lost" yesterday in name only. His defense gets the blame for that s***. He pitched just fine. You can blame him for the others, that's fine.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) If we do lose, we will never hear the end of this from Hawk about the umpire. Why shouldn't be b****? This time he is right.
  7. 5 of the 7 ER Jenks has allowed this year were in non-save situations. The only two he has given up were in that Pirates game.
  8. Great job on an 0-2 pitch by Paulie. Way to give us a chance to bailout this season.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Thompson excites me more than anyone, but I don't know if he'll sign. I can't see us drafting a guy in the first five rounds, at least, that we didn't know we could sign.
  10. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) Remember the commercials where he uses one hand? The best part is that Poreda's interview today on AM 1000 was talking about how he expected AJ to haze him... He gets to fill Buehrle's part from the commercial
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) 4 left handers...what have we turned into? Poor AJ.
  12. Another thread bump? Ugh.
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Do you believe he is legitimately hurt somewhere? Yes.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) He's clearly not healthy, and its not his knee either. He's not throwing right, he's not got any real velocity, he's protecting the arm to last as long as possible. If he returns from the DL, he needs to show he can throw with some speed, and then he's a bullpen guy, not a starter. It could be his knee. If he can't drive with his back leg, he isn't getting velocity. If his bad knee is his land leg, he might not be pushing as hard because the landing hurts, so he isn't getting his full velocity that way either.
  15. I nailed this one... You could see this coming a mile away, even before Poreda was recalled. Colon hasn't advanced at all this season, and the league has started to figure him out.
  16. Each of the half season winners meet in the playoffs.
  17. Well as of today we have four of the players we drafted in the first round on the team right now. I wonder how many other teams can say that?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) This is why the "Public Option" as proposed by the President is such a brilliant move. If the Republicans are right and the public insurance option is a government run debacle...then what happens is we've altered the tax structure enough to find a way to push the uninsured in to the ranks of the insured, and hopefully cut costs because we won't have 50 million people using the vastly more expensive emergency care systems and getting appropriate preventative care. If, on the other hand, I'm right and the public system will be vastly more efficient than the private debacles we currently have...then either the private system will have to lower its costs to stay competitive or it will go extinct. There really is no downside for anyone other than a current insurance company executive. If the Republicans are right, then the public option barely costs anything, if the Democrats are right, then the public option keeps this country out of bankruptcy. Not that about half of that number of uninsured is illegal aliens or anything... I hate that number because it is such bulls***.
  19. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) If there is any reason Scheppers drops 23 spots to us, I'll guarantee he'll just pass right on by. Although I believe there's no way gets by Detroit. Detroit has no money to spend. They are hemorrhaging cash right now.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) For a team looking for middle relief help, i.e. the Cubs, Carrasco could be a valuable commodity. The Cubs would kill for anyone out of our pen right now.
  21. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) he had a no-hitter into the 6th the last time we faced him Unless ESPN is wrong, we took a ton of walks last year in his last start against us. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=280405106
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Anyone else hear that KW stormed out (as in being extremely pissed off) of the Sox clubhouse yesterday, and it was after a meeting with Ozzie? That's what Comcast supposedly reported. Things are definitely in motion. Supposedly Kenny wanted to go address the team in the lockerroom and Ozzie told him no. That was what was reported on AM1000. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) I predict that tomorrow Joe Cowley will be a f***ing idiot. Also the day after that and the day after that and so on. Way to go out on to a limb. Can you tell me if the sun is going to come up tomorrow?
  23. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) yea but I just dont see us adding too much to payroll if the deal involves the Cubs I think Kenny would make a trade with Fidel Castro if he thought it would improve the Sox. He doesn't care about who he makes the deal with, all that matters is making the team better.
  24. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) The Cubs are handcuffed with their ownership not taken care of A deal could be done where the Sox take on payroll, if JR approves. That wouldn't be subject to all of the extra redtape.
  25. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) that's the problem. Ozzie loves the guy, and always has his favorites whom he gives a shot regardless of whether they deserve it. If Garcia pitches with a mid-4s ERA in the minors, I guarantee he comes up to the big club to get shelled as soon as the Count falls back to earth. Its all about his velocity. If he can work back into the low 90's he can be effective at the major league level. If he stays in the mid 80's, there is no chance.
