The environment thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) The Republicans, who have no interest in obstructing things but are solely interested in good legislation, have lined up a series of 450 amendments they intend to offer to the Waxman Markey climate/energy bill. Perhaps the most fun is an amendment raising taxes on Alcoa, Chrysler, GE, pepsi, Ford, etc. Why? Because they're part of the US Climate Action Partnership, which has supported action on Climate change. I wish there was more vindictive tax increases in government. It'd really improve our budget situation if we started taxing companies that give support to specific issues. Wait that sounds familiar... Didn't we just do this on banking bonuses?

War in Sri Lanka Over
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) I wish I had bookmarked it, but SS2k5 wrote a great post on just that topic albeit about Rwanda. We do tend to avoid brown on brown conflicts. Especially if they do not have any natural resources we need. Thank you. The arrogance here pisses me off because I know in this very company we have all had some very excellent discussions about Africa specifically before. Of all places to make an ignorant statement like that, this is not one of them.

Rumsfeld Quoted Bible on War Briefings
QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 17, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) Then you better tell Obama to stop talking about God in any capacity, because whether intended or not, it's an "endorsement of that religion by our government". It's completely false to say that this is a "separation of church and state" issue. It might be in poor taste (or might not), but it's not a constitutional issue. Especially since Obama was at a Catholic University quoting and paraphrasing from the bible, yesterday.

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
Detroit just owned the nuetral zone. I didn't see the final total, but in the early third period we had all of one odd man rush total. They just choked the life out of our offense.

Amazing camera work by the way to see exactly how close Burish came to getting his throat cut WIDE open by Eagers skate.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 17, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) the ESPN gamecast has the Wings with 61 SOG and the Blackhawks with 12. It feels like it, that is for sure...

The Republican Thread
It'd be more accurate if it was the "Rush Limbaugh" thread.

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 17, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) I don't know if I would call it excellent. They are out shooting us by almost a 2-1 margin. And Detroit has had a lot of open Ice. Khabi is keeping us in this game for sure.

5/16 Games
QUOTE (Cali @ May 16, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) i like the Tank with another 4 hit game under his belt. Seems like he's getting comfortable. I hope we see him at some point this year at third with the way Josh has been struggling... Has Flowers Defense behind the plate gotten better? Is his throwing guys out? I'd also be interested to hear how Viciedos D has looked... Has his footwork and mechanics cleaned up?

5/17 Games
QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 17, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) Wow, I'm shocked. It would have made more sense to promote Cook or Gartrell to Charlotte considering that there is an open spot on their roster. Lillibridge is going to be there very soon, once Anderson is activated.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ May 17, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Thanks, man! Nothing says happy birthday like watching your favorite team get absolutely obliterated. Thank God the Hawks are on at 2. Word. Good to see you around, Happy B-day as well!

QUOTE (Baines3 @ May 16, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) If things continue the way they are right now does any one thing Ozzie might get on thin ice? You will see "The Kids Can Play II" before you see Ozzie fired. He will walk away before he gets fired.- Minor League Catch-All thread 2009 edition
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) From ProjectProspect.com Pretty telling statistic and if I were a scouting director it would probably scare me a bit about taking a SS super early in the draft. Than again, I tend to believe shortstops are the best athletes in the field and as a rule of thumb I'd draft quite a few of em throughout the draft with a theory they could play any up the middle position. It helps that if a guy can play SS, he can be moved to many different postions, including OF in many cases.- Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (knightni @ May 16, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Chris Washburn Bingo. That is it. Thanks J.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
Forget Lillibridge and Pods and anyone else who is getting guff on this team. I am getting sick of the guys who actually should be good not doing anything. That is the part of this team that has been really bothering me. Guys like John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Alexei Ramirez, Josh Fields, and Carlos Quentin aren't doing their jobs, and that renders the production of guys like Broadway and Lillibridge as pointless.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 16, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Lind f***in golfed ball four. That was as much pure luck as anything. He had no business hitting that pitch, let alone hitting hit hard.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 16, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) They might think differently when they get a good look at some of the crowds later in the season. Being bad is one thing. Being bad and boring with a $100 million payroll is another thing. Its a different story if we are talking about call ups at the end of the year.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Isn't that Greg Walker's job? Not if they aren't ready for the bigs.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) If we screw up any of the hitters on the Barons and sabotage them by bringing them up too early and having them start getting in to bad habits...a lot worse. Screwing up 2010, 2011, etc, isn't worth it.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
Well the pen is halfway there.... Hold em down boys, oh yeah, can we score a run or two more, please?- Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Are you thinking of William Bedford? 6th pick in 86 draft by the suns, 7 footer, out of what was then called Memphis State? Currently in a Texas prison on a drug transportation bust? That sounds right to me.- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) Colon only threw 62 pitches. Is he injured? Or is Cora flexing his muscles and using the underworked pen? They are trying to go for the win. With the way this team has been going, I can't say that I disagree with them. Usually I would say ride the starter, but we need a win bad, and I feel better with our back four in the pen, than I do with Colon.- Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) He went to Oklahoma Who the heck I am thinking of then? Big man, who was supposed to be a big timer in the NBA and was a huge flop, from the same time frame... Does that ring a bell for anyone?- White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Interesting, never heard that before. I thought the company line was that KW met with Ozzie, and was blown away. Either way, no complaints. The version of the story I heard was that Cito wanted a bunch of money and some front office say. We said no. - White Sox @ Blue Jays 12:07pm WGNHD
