  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) Yeah. They want Jermaine Dye and are dangling Carl Crawford to get him. When, Lord? When will people stop ALWAYS bringing up Carl Crawford!?!??! When we get a guy with either speed, or can hit lead off? He keeps getting mentioned because he fits into the Sox biggest hole, team speed.
  2. Ed Jackson is a guy who could defenitely find his way to Chicago in a deal. The Rays want to dump him badly from the sounds of it.
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) i understand thats part of it...and thats really what my frustration goes back to...if kenny isn't gonna do it, but he sits there and watches the red sox, tigers, dodgers and other teams do it over and over and over again, he is leaving himself at a competitive disadvantage His hands are tied there. I would bet money that comes from upstairs from JR himself.
  4. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) Could we be looking at Crawford? I said in September that is who we would go after. I still believe it.
  5. I remember sitting in old Comiskey Park as an almost 4 year old watching the South Side Hitmen.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) Three on the same day. Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, and Dirty Sexy Money were just cancelled. Ah that sucks PD is getting canceled.
  7. I gave my 18 month old brother stitches because he jumped on the end of my bed when I didn't want to get up.
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Joey Cora will not sell tickets as a manager. Not certain how that fits. If he can get a team to win, he will sell tickets.
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) im happy we signed this guy, but why the hell are we willing to throw 11 mil at virtually unknown cuban players and yet won't deal out money in the draft to guys like Porcello? I understand high school players like Rick are unknown as well, but it just seems silly to me....i guess its because during the draft we have an opportunity to take another player who may be close to as good for alot cheaper, but still....either way i like to see money invested in acquiring young players...its partially how the red sox have been built into what they are Because Jerry isn't going to violate slot bonuses because of his handshake agreement with the commish.
  10. If the Spire gets off of the ground, Chicago will again have the tallest building in the US, along with the 3rd tallest, assuming that the WTC project is done as well.
  11. The renovations at the Cell have made it one of the top half dozen ballparks in the country.
  12. New Comiskey Park should have been built in the south loop instead of Bridgeport.
  13. Millenium Park was an awesome addition to the city.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:34 AM) . I haven't seen them in person either, but from what Ive heard Brandon Allen is much more athletic than Carter. When Allen was first drafted scouts had him pegged as a Mo Vaughan type, but since then he seems to of developed down a path that Id say is vaguely similar to that of Lance Beckman. He got good contact, great power, and a little speed. Carter, on the other hand, is more of the swing and/or miss with monstrous power type. Think of Adam Dunn for a similarity. I haven't seen the kid in person, but based on his strike out numbers, I would strongly argue the whole "good contact" thing when it comes to Brandon Allen.
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 07:56 AM) In some threads Cuba's baseball program has been compared to US AA. So why all the love for getting the top two or three players from Cuba? Nothing against the country and all. Wish we would normalize relations, but if we had the top two or three US AA I doubt we would be seeing all the giddiness. And just to toss this into the mix for discussion, would a Cuban All-Star team be all that competitive in MLB? Again, not hatin' on Cuba, don't want to go there, just trying to understand what seems like more love for the AA we don't see versus the AA or AAA or MLB guys we do see. Absence makes the heart grow fonder? Getting the two or three best players from AA would mean we would be getting two or three of the best prospects in baseball, who are also already advanced to nearly MLB ready players. I'd be giddy if we got those guys too.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Or he was terribly hungover? That 'Yeah he was an unhealthy scratch thing' was awkward. On the radio they were calling it and "upper body injury", whatever the hell that means.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Yeah, because there were so many people threatening to expel Democrats from the caucus and leave them unemployed if they didn't vote a certain way...totally comparable. Because we all know Democrats don't threaten to expell people from their caucus if they don't vote their way...
  18. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) YAY!!!!!! YAAAAAAY!!!!!! This makes me so happy!!!!! Take that Yankees, you dumb motherf***ing cocksuckers!!! Yeah, bet you still think that Loaiza for Contreras deal was a steal, huh??? Try Loaiza for Contreras, El Duque, Alexei, and Viciedo!!! It's all thanks to that one damn f***ing awesome deal!!! So f*** you Yanks, Kenny Williams OWNS your b**** asses!!! And really, I remember the reaction around Soxtalk to the Contreras trade. Pretty much all of the site hated Contreras because he was wild and "uncoachable" as determined by the Yankees. Its amazing how something this simple led to pretty much the entire direction of the franchise being changed. If we don't trade for Contreras and sit on Loaiza, we probably don't make the playoffs in 2005, let alone winning it all. And we don't laydown the goodwill with Torres that leads to him thinking both Alexei and now Viciedo would thrive in this enviornment. What would the White Sox look like if the initial deal had never been done? Scary thought.
  19. Sweet. The nice thing is that it didn't get too expensive.
  20. More impressive than that are the new lows in the energies... 99.99 cents in the Dec Gasoline and 48.64 in the Dec Crude Oil. Crazy.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I'm honestly trying to do my part. Ditched the car a couple of years ago and make a strong effort to purchase locally sourced food and goods. That was definately a generic "we" as in, we as a country, versus pointing the finger at an individual/s here. Hell I am just as guilty as anyone else.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Prices the company pays to get the energy vs. what the company actually charges the consumer. edit: In my experience the average person seems to think that oil companies randomly choose to charge 4 dollars a gallon at the pump, and people who are really dumb think that the manager at the local gas station is gouging, they don't realize that it's the price of crude that affects everything else and the oil companies have to pay higher prices like everyone else. So if a person needs to be to be pissed at someone, be pissed at suppliers of crude. If people want to pissed at someone, they need to be pissed at themselves. We are the ones who have supported this system for decades now. All the oil companies are doing is feeding our addiction. We are the addicts.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) And the reason it was believable was that AIG had clearly thought they were doing something that deserved that sort of blustering. Or they knew that the media and the Congress don't understand the business and would completely over-react.
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) But what about that pic on your Facebook page with you, the Indonesian tranny hooker, Mel Renyolds and Fidel Casto at a bar in Key West? You didn't post that here? You're holding back on us! OMG, you couldn't be more wrong on that! I can't believe you would let fly with such inaccurate and misleading information! It was South Padre Island, not Key West.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) While yes, Congress probably wastes more money on these sorts of things than anyone...regarding that article defending AIG...if this conference wasn't another luxury gig, if it wasn't another deal paid for on the taxpayer's dime, and if it was so necessary for their business...then why were they so desperate to cover up that it was AIG running it? Um did you see the headlines blastered all over the place and the blustering Congressmen taking shots at their expense?
