  1. Plus it is worth mentioning that Freddie and Fannie have spent something like $200 million in lobby money over the years, including people working on both campaigns and people who were on both candidates VP vetting groups.
  2. That is the most brutal place I have ever seen a game, that includes Aprils in Chicago.
  3. Happy Birthday
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) And he gets it too. Governments should control nothing. I wouldn't go that far, but there is a definate set of ideals that were set forth by our founding fathers, and they did recognize that economic freedom was just as important as many other freedoms.
  5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Why do we establish governments? Protecting us seems like one of the first roles or government. The purpose of the US government wasn't to protect us from ourselves, it was to protect us from invaders. Its funny to me to hear the outrage over issues that impinge freedom of speech, or religion, or guns, but no one really complains too much as their freedom of commerce, which is just as protected in the constitution, gets given away.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) An overwhelmingly large proportion of America could care less about capital gains. That's for the elitists. And Obama is proposing an elimination of income tax for seniors making less than $50K. Last I saw somewhere around half of the country owns stock.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) What is exchanged there? Coffee, Cotton, OJ, Cocoa, Sugar, the US dollar index, and the Russell 2000 index. They had massive systems problems this morning, and it has been a nightmare all day afterwards.
  8. I'm down somewhere around 10 pounds so far in about a month's time. Not to shabby.

I hate the InterContinental Exchange. I hope it burns to the ground. That is all.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Nice. When Obama's cut gives you more, it tells you how much more in taxes you'd have to pay under McCain. When McCain would cut your taxes more, no mention of that at all! Not to mention it leaves out increases in things like social security, capital gains, gasoline etc...
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) So...where exactly would the world's financial systems be if these companies owning 1/2 of the mortgages in the US were actually allowed to go belly up? Fannie and Freddie should have never existed in the first place.
  12. OK so we have seen Boston and Anaheim personally in short time, and Tampa Bay in on the horizon... Who do people think is the best team in the AL right now? Are we close or there?

  14. Its no big surprise really. These companies should have never been backed by the government in the first place. This should all be independant of the taxpayers, so that a bailout isn't really even an option. This kind of crap is exactly why places like automotive industry are lining up to be next in line for the next bailout.
  15. Bumped for a fun look back... MAX and Wite really hit the Tigers well, but no one guessed Cleveland falling completely apart.
  16. 82-60 +2.5 games 20 games left to play.
  17. Happy belated, and thankfully no bea arthurs were hurt in the making of this post.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) btw, I just read that Edwards canceled his U of I speech. I think that was posted in here? Supposedly he has cancelled everything through the general election.

  21. QUOTE (spiffalicious @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) The score just said he is having surgery Monday to put a pin in his wrist. That's not good at all. That has recurring injury written all over it.
  22. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Bruce Levine confirms Quentin is out for the season. Damn. That hurts.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) In case you haven't noticed he attacked the Democratic Presidential nominee on national TV the other day. Well when you get drummed from your own party, it tends to make you a little bitter. I'm sure you'd have nothing but flowers for Soxtalk if we banned you, you know what I mean?

  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) the whole firing for "lack of support" is VERY bothersome to me. That's hard core Washington politics at it's best (well, worst). Dont be a decenter. Dont disagree. if you do... you;re gone. Joe Lieberman saids hi!
