Soxtalk: A History
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) I ran a death pool at my old office. BTW, checking who else joined around the same time I did, in rapid order, and on the same day were WhataGoob13, MonsterCock13, and BigNthePants83. Registered but never posted. I'm guessing we missed out on so much stimulating conversation from him (them). So you finally figured out the registration process on the 4th try, huh?

Working for a Candidate
I've done both. It has taken causes I believe in and candidates I believe in in both cases. I have worked with a LOT of local candidates all over the political spectrum for one reason or another.

Jay Mariotti leaves the Sun-Times!...Goes to the Tribune? Nope!
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) DeLuca actually said just that "at a time when the paper is laying off people to cut costs, it probably wasnt a good idea to throw one of the highest contracts on the table to say 'take it I dont need it'" There were a couple of funny stories. Something about how he didnt think they would call his bluff, and he walked out of the editors room to do his segment for ATH, and he wasnt allowed in because his key card was already deactivated. The only way that could have been better is if they had an armed security guard escort him out of the building.

Jay Mariotti leaves the Sun-Times!...Goes to the Tribune? Nope!
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 06:55 AM) Chris DeLuca, Mully and Hanley were talking about it this morning as if if was fact. Considering they are employed by the Suntimes, Im thinking the story is true. DeLuca said that Mariotti flashed his "Im gonna quit" card one too many time, and insulted his employer and colleagues way too many times And at a time when they REALLY need to cut costs, it probably didn't sound too bad to the ST.

Plan for Danks?
Out of curiousity, is there anywhere that actually lists his pitch totals from last year (more specifically to this point in the year) versus this year? Just off of the top of my head I am remembering a lot of starts where Danks went 100-110 pitches, but only made it 4-5 innings. This year he seems to usually be hitting the 100 pitch mark a couple of innings later, usually in the 6th or 7th. It doesn't seem like his pitch totals are going up at all, just his innings pitched. I imagine that stat about the increase in innings is more to do with extra wear and tear on the arm, but if he isn't really throwing anymore pitches, is he getting really anymore wear? Does anyone have the numbers to back me up, or to prove me wrong??? I really would like to know.

Boras questioning legitimacy of Alvarez deal
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 01:34 AM) More reason to hate Boras I wonder who is more hated, Marriotti or Boras? Borass by a mile. He is the only one who has an ACTUAL effect on anything.

Democratic Convention Talk
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) Generally speaking people in this forum don't unnecessarily inject race into arguments when talking about Obama, except to counter accusations of race-baiting. I really don't think anyone on Soxtalk that I have seen has any hang ups about Obama's race themselves. It has been talked about in discussions of other situations, but I don't see anyone here not voting for the guy because of the color of his skin.

Democratic Convention Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) The ire is at par with the level of perceived variance from the party platform. McCain hasn't gone as far off the ranch as Lieberman did. I don't think there is a significant difference between the parties on this one. I don't think Jim Jeffords even got the same venom that Lieberman has gotten.

Democratic Convention Talk
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) Until very recently (because of the obvious contrast with Obama) you could've just as easily substituted the words "Republicans" and "McCain." Actually it's still probably true. Party die-hards don't like it when someone in their party is unreliable, it doesn't matter who they are. Not even close. The Repubs pulled McCains support and propped up another candidate against him. They sure as heck haven't had anywhere NEAR the public bile for McCain that Joe has gotten from the Dems.

Democratic Convention Talk
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) Exactly my point, I don't understand why people are so excited she supports him, it's pretty obvious that's what she was going to do. Plus the Democrats don't take kindly to people who don't toe the party line... ask Joe Lieberman.
