  1. QUOTE (DumpJerry @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Hmmm......I know a White Sox fan site which would take him off our hands in a trade. He'd fit right in with them.......I just don't know who we'd want from them. PTBNL or "cash considerations"
  2. BTW, let me ask that we visit here instead of taking down the catch all with this arguement... Thanks. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...view=getnewpost

  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) They are certainly biased in their political contributions. http://www.ibdeditorial.com/IBDArticles.as...301702713742569 That is 100 to 1.
  6. There is a delicious irony when people get upset for getting called out about booing Konerko...
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) What we need here, is a soundclip, too. [FLUSH] Heh, heh hairy sachs.
  8. Are you closing me? Do not make my thread angry. I need wins for my bunghole!
  9. Things could get really interesting when the remnants of the storm catch the jet stream and start north. Hopefully it avoids the areas of the midwest that were just flooded, and aims more towards the southeast that was in a severe drought.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Oh, I was gonna comment that I thought hiring illegal immigrants was essentially modern-day slavery. I wanted to make sure you were saying what I thought you were saying before I said that though or it would've looked like a non-sequitor. I wouldn't disagree with you.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Can you re-word this question because I am retarded? Basically the idea would be that the higher the minimum wage goes, the more people there are out there who would be willing to either take jobs for cash (an amount falling under what it would cost to employ someone, thus saving the company money) under the table, and/or hire illegal aliens to work for less than the minimum wage.
  12. Besides the obvious inflation and labor pool implications, it would be interesting to see the affect that had on the black market employment, specifically illegal aliens. I wonder if anyone has done a study?
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) And of course, its not pegged for inflation, so they have to revisit this again later. Pet peeve of mine: enacting laws with specific amounts like this, and not putting in an automatic increase based on a market basket. If we are going to have a minimum wage, it needs to be indexed to inflation somehow.
  14. I don't know if anyone else has been reading this or not, but it is really interesting. The Washington Post has been running a 13 part series on the Chandra Levy murders and investigation. There is a lot of interesting info in here that I had never heard before. 12 of the parts are up, the last part goes up tomorrow. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro...ndra/index.html
  15. A little perspective from the D-Town... http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2008...business_f.html
  16. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) Im sure he is, but still, nobody wants to just give away 445000 bucks. Im sure Hester wants to get this done quick Would you give up half a million dollars to get say $10,000,000, or more? That is the way he is looking at it.
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) So Hester gets paid 445,000 a year, and is being fined 15,000 per day for missing training camp. So he basically has 33 days before he is broke. Who do you think blinks first? I'll bet Hester is making a lot more than that in endorsements.

  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) I thought that was a myth and that he lived in the city and worked downtown? Someone got an interview with him in the last couple of years, and that is true. Personally the guy has made it clear he doesn't want attention. I wish people would respect that and just leave him alone. Its not like he is an attention seeking whore or a criminal. Let the guy live his life.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Way to blow your cover. Nice catch!
  21. The NFL is the ONLY league where I can understand players trying to negotiate new contracts, because the contracts aren't guarenteed. once you get outside of the upfront money, you can tear up the deal at will if you are the team, and have no committment to the rest of the deal. Places like MLB, NBA, and NHL where the guys get all of the money they sign for are different.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) Move to Venezuela. If you can avoid the violence, you can drive all day. Gas is $.12 a gallon. Not to mention free health care for all! Who needs their freedoms, right?
  23. Ah yes, I love the view from the top on an off day
  24. This was another one of those games that we had no business winning, that somehow we pulled out of our asses and won. Tacking the extra game onto the lead, and not giving the Tigers another game gained in the standings is huge, especially as we head up to Detroit for the weekend.
  25. QUOTE (DumpJerry @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) As a condition to play you guys next year we make the following demands: 1. Pratt plays middle infield for Soxtalk. 2. Pratt gives WSI our locker room talk before the game. He's a tremendous motivational speaker. Really. How about we trade him to you and he can give you all of the motivation that you need!
