  1. Eh, it was a pipedream, but I will take #498
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) 3rd base is not a hole for us going into next year, unlike LF, CF, SS, 2b, SP, and RP. So what, do you pass up the chance to improve your team that much? Once again, if you move Fields to LF, you eliminate that spot anyway. Also SP is not on Kenny's to do list this winter, so you might as well cross that off as well. If anything someone is getting traded.
  3. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) Sorry Jason, but Garland has worse trade value right now and going into this offseason than Freddy Garcia did last offseason, and probably identical to Buehrle's before this season. with him making $12M on a 1 year deal, I'd be surprised if we could get more than a reliever coming off a down year, or a couple of prospects like we got in the Iguchi/Mackowiak trades. I think it is best to hang on to him and hope he has a first half like he did this season so we may be able to get something of value for him at the deadline next season. I have no clue what Kenny is doing for this team because in all honesty this is a 5 year rebuilding project. The only guys on our team who have trade value are Buehrle and Konerko. Everyone else is worth a bag of balls to other GMs. Surely you can't be serious...
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Safe to say 3b is the last position we need to get someone for. So you would go out next year with either a rebuilt Joe Crede, or a guy who is still learning in Josh Fields? Yeah, I would take a 3B in a heartbeat, and keep Josh where he should be in LF. It kills two birds with one stone.
  5. For a guy with a $5 million option, he really isn't doing much to make sure it gets picked up.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) It was his fault for prolonging both innings, but really, Garland become rattled after Cintron's errors. Even if the runs didn't score we'd still have a 1-1 game with our bullpen matching up against Minnesota's. How many outs do we need to give Johan Santana? Its sad, but we really NEED Joe Crede if we are going to be any good in 2008. We don't have one guy on this roster today who plays a decent defensive third base. Heck Uribe might be the best 3B we have in the field, and he hasn't been out there for years.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) You did when you said the US went in to help. The US went in to protect its interests. Period. That's right, I forgot the US is the worlds imperialists... well at least we don't discriminate, we kill em all.
  8. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) We put ourselves in Iraq. Events put us into Germany. Events put us into the former Yugoslavia, and that main event was the fear of losing the leadership and de facto primacy that we enjoy in NATO. Our involvement in Germany had nothing to do with the Jews. Our involvement in Yugoslavia had nothing to do with any systemic ethnic cleansing/genocide/repression. Who said that it did?
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) They're trading Atkins this offseason. I'd be down for Atkins, arms for Jon Garland.
  10. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 01:28 AM) This Glaus story reminded me of a comment made in papers here in AZ by Jeff Moorad the part owner of the Dbacks "Since our group took over we have secretly traded away several players that we suspected of steriod use" There tenor started at the end of 2004 through the comment made in June of 2006. One of trades was the Glaus trade so it made me wonder who else they "shipped out" in between 9-2004 and 6-2006. Interesting. Good for them if it is true.
  11. I'd love to see him get it off of Santana... Today.
  12. So maybe I missed it, but have Michigan and ND ever both started out 0-2 in the same year?
  13. The more CFs on the market, the better chance one slips in value and falls to the Sox. Ideally Rowand, the Japanese player, Jones, and Hunter all hit the FA market.
  14. Colorado would be a perfect match for the Sox, but we need to be talking about their young position players, and not their pitchers.
  15. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) Except we didn't go to help in Germany because of the systemic repression of Jews. It was an afterthought. We could have done much more to stop these things during World War II than we actually did. It's funny that you think that we went to help in Screbernica, we really didn't rush into it. It wasn't until the Kosovo issue that we rushed to help and that was through NATO. US reaction in Yugoslavian break up, like much of Eastern and Central Europe's transformation in the late 1980s and 1990s happened entirely within and had little to do with external pressure. How long did it take us to go into Iraq? It wasn't like we went in the Monday after a Friday night.
  16. To be specific, it was the most runs down that the Sox have ever scored to come from behind and won in a game in just the 9th inning.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 07:48 AM) This does not address the biggest problem facing us. We can find enough immigrants we like to be Doctors, software engineers, and similar, but we just can not find enough acceptable laborers. We should slash this funding and force Americans to accept these jobs Seriously, now comes another round of tuition hikes which will wipe out the increase as far as the students wallets. They will still need the same debt. This will help schools way more than it helps students. We accept debt in this society. The second part is true. Colleges are still going to follow supply and demand and get as much out of the pockets of students as possible. If the government gives more aid, it means that the increases will be bigger to make up for the governments new portion. See also medical costs and insurance costs.
  18. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) But but but this is creeping socialism! Let these people pull themselves up by their bootstraps with their rugged conservative individualism! Horatio Alger didn't need no goshdarn big gub'mint to help him on his way. If they didn't have enough money for college, they must have just been f***ing lazy. How dare Bush tarnish the Reagan legacy by continuing to prop up the Department of Education instead of abolishing it? /ends rabid right wing authoritarian hate. Finally, an increase in Pell grant funding. Now just doing some work to get rid of the insanity of NCLB and things will be even better. Actually I would argue that this is inflationary to the cost of college, but that's OK. I am not going to complain, because it will be a nice boost for us.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 09:10 AM) By true definition of genocide - Less than 70 years ago. Events that come close to it? - Less than 15 years ago. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) One could argue that the Serbs were engaging in a genocide in Srebrenica during 1992-1995. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosnian_Genocide or a book "The Problem From Hell" by Samantha Power for more info (a great resource about how the term genocide came to be, examples of genocides throughout history and what the response (or lack thereof often times) was from the US and other nations. Check and check. Both times the US went to help. We invaded Yugoslavia, or what was left of it, Germany, and Italy. Yugoslavia which has a very large Christian population in sectors, not to mention Italy, the home of Catholics and Germany, a Lutheran nation.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) How far back do we have to go? It's a serious question. WWII? Are Christian countries just better? BTW SS, it was a post of yours months ago that pointed that out to me. I believe it was in a Rwanda thread. Funny that you would post that now. let me ask you this, when was the last genocide in a Christian country?
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Romney: No tax on investment gains (interest, dividends, cap gains) for income levels I don't like Romney much, but I think he has a decent idea here. Are you ready to go into the implications of taxcuts again? I think Tex has been busy enough in the other threads, he might have to give up sleep
  22. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) SI is reporting that Troy Glaus received multiple shipments of performance-enhancing steroids in 2003 and 2004 while with Anaheim. I can't believe Darin would let something like this happen on his watch! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...robe/index.html It will be interesting when the first significant White Sox name comes out.
  23. Happy Birthday
