  1. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) The Rangers broadcasters said that was the second longest homer they'd seen hit at the park and they estimated about 475. The longest was by Paul Sorrento but they said that was wind-driven. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) The Rangers announcers when it happened said the fence at the end of the grass was 490 feet (based on another HR hit to that fence in the past). They thought Thome's went about 470 based on that. But, the announcement was 435. The Rangers announcers didn't buy into that. Thanks guys. Now 475 makes sense, especially knowing that the end of the grass area is just shy of 500 feet.

  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) What purpose has it even served since being closed? When I went up there last year to see a Sox Tigers game it was like half destroyed already with grafiti all over the outer walls. Someone had the idea of turning the stadium itself into condos and offices, or a historical site, but that stuff never got going because of $$$$.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) But it's awfully frustrating to want to read the media watch of the day and have to sift through 100 posts of people saying how much they hate it. You don't like it? Congratulations. Say it once and be done with it. Not everyone agrees with your viewpoint. I'm not going to go to a rap concert every day and tell the guy next to me how much it sucks. That wouldn't make much sense now, would it. See what I'm sayin? Then why would you come onto a White Sox message board and tell people what to post and what not to post? That doesn't make a lick of sense.
  6. Unfortunate? Please, that place needs to be imploded along with half of that city.

Wait a minute... it's still dark in here.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) I was wondering where that would have landed at USCF. Centerfield, at least the area that is covered by the scoreboard out there is the one area at USCF where the ball doesn't carry all that well. I was speculating on the samething myself. I came up with about 2/3s of the way up the backwall to the party patio.
  9. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Close enough. "It can happen to anybody" if they have the brain of a hamster. You have some apologizing to do to your hampsters
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Oddly enought it was only measured at 435 ft. which makes it his 2nd longest HR on the season (448 on April 4th vs Westbrook was his longest.) Are you being serious? There is no way that was 435. The wall is 400 feet there, and it only was about 5 feet from hitting the kids area all of the way at the top of the upward sloping grass area that serves as a batters eye there. That shot was 450-475 feet legitimately.
  11. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) #10 in the White Sox organization (which is usually ranked in the middle fo the pack)= #250 or so in the country = Nothing When you rank below Jerry Owens in 2006, you have issues. Do me a favor and dig out where Mark Buehrle ranked on those lists over the years, and try to explain to me how much they really matter in the long run.
  12. Did anyone ever hear how far the Thome HR off of Mahay actually traveled? It was only a few feet from clearing that entire grassy area in dead center field. It isn't often you see a no-doubter hit to dead center field, but there was no doubt about Thome's HR.
  13. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) He actually said that? What an idiot. I kinda paraphrased a little more than I realized, but here is the quote
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Didn't we do that last year with, of all teams, Houston? I can't remember who it was with. I was thinking Boston to keep a Yankee off, but I could be wrong. I know there are Reds, Tigers, Twins, and Marlins fans at least on here, there has got to be SOMETHING we can do. There is definately more strength in numbers.
  15. All righty boys. Let it go.
  16. I personally liked how in his "apology" he ended it with "these things happen". :headshake

  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) Iraq turning up? When has that happened? Just because Zarqawi is dead? Come on Nuke, you should know better than most that killing that guy will be a blip historically. The hatred is buried too deep. Iraq isn't turning anywhere - it's still the same runaway train. As for Jefferson - good. Good the the Dems. This dude can rot. Al Qaeda in Iraq seemed to think that things weren't going very well for themselves, so much so that they were trying to start another war for the US to fight to distract them away from destroying their operations.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) To the people in favor of this amendment ... Do you realize that changing the constitution in anyway requires a constitutional convention? Do you realize that if and when a convention is called, they will not just vote on this one item and adjourn? Do you realize that once the convention begins, anything and everything is fair game? They don't have to go through this tough criteria on each issue, just the first one. Once the convention starts, they could theoretically gut the constitution as it currently stands. In my opinion, this is a relatively piss poor issue to risk exposing the constitution to the whims this group of politicians. This doesn't even come close to justifying a constitutional convention. Look past the jingoism for a minute and think about the can of worms that can be opened here. Thankfully the process is long, drawnout and difficult, as to keep crap like this from be coming constitutionally protected.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) Comcast is always VERY pro Cubs AND Sox because of the sweet little T.V. deal. But hey, that's how it goes these days in sports media... Not to mention they own the majority of CSN between them...
  21. To those who care about this kind of stuff, Gates walking away is no big surprise. He has been working himself out the door for years now, even installing Steve Balmer as President of the company a few years back. Gates has said publicly before he sees no need to keep all of his money, and has mentioned giving away the great majority of it, as he feels no one needs that much money, including the future generations of his family. The Gates foundation has done tons of good all over the world, and really it seems will do a lot more now with Bill focusing more and more energy into that.
  22. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) How's Somalia doing? OH yeah, we deserted them as soon as the going got tough... BTW, I am embarassed that this bill is even coming up. I guess freedom of speech just means freedom for things that are nice. I am hoping that someone at least attachest a line in their about banning boy bands or something productive.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) There is some arguments to why they would vote No. I don't agree with it, but it still is a valid concern. This is an unprecdented action by the Dem caucus, and if you start the precedent now, what happens when its time for a political grudge to get settled within the party? This has been happpening between the parties for decades now, the big difference is the Dems hands were pretty much tied here because Pelosi got her stump prior to this and pledged to clean up the "Culture of Corruption" in Washington DC. If the Dems HAD NOT done this, one HUGE plank of their platform would have just rotted out from under them, and guys like Rove would have ate them for lunch. To be honest, this is about as surprising to me as when should-have-been speaker Livingston resigned before he even got put in because of his affair. It was the same situation where the campaigning and speeches of one party forced them to do something the probably would not have done otherwise, sacrificing one of their one to keep their street cred.
  24. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:05 AM) "But our relationship with the teams is never a factor. We don't get a mandate from the Sox." Guess you missed that. Cool. The Tribune saids the samething, so now we can cancel the media watches. Thanks
