  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) They are reflecting mainstream America. Republicans and Democrats will defend anything their party does. We are getting what we deserve. Hear something anti-GOP? It's the liberal media. Hear something Anti-Democrat, it gets defended. Oh that's rich. Or maybe the problem is that most people lacking an alternative like themeselves latch onto the closest thing they can find, defending it because they view the alternative as even worse than their ill-fitting party choice they were forced into?
  2. That is wrong on so many levels... Oasis was all right, but 2 in the top 10 of all time, puleeze.
  3. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) how about bringing Dave Wills home and moving Farmer back where he belongs -- the second chair. Now that would be my ideal booth, at least with Rooney in St Louis.
  4. So I was just thinking and I got ranover by an irony. A Cubs fan is on a White Sox sight talking about how bad their announcers are... These are the same people who embraced Harry Carry and Ron Santo right? OK, thanks for playing.
  5. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Plushie Patrol!! I smell a new member title

  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) Oh my.. was that man was having a seizure...? QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) If he was, I'm sure someone in that neighborhood would find something to shove in his mouth... That is awful I should be ashamed for writing that... and ashamed...I am. :headshake Early entry for QOTM from the Cubs protest video thread...
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) We're not adding, they are already here. And if they leave, we'll have to find millions more to take their place. Are you now proposing deporting them? You are missing my point. You would be adding them to the system. Right now they do not receive any federal benefits, whereas if legalize they would.
  10. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Are there concrete studies from non-partial groups without agendas stating these claims? I still haven't found anything on my own and am curious to see what's out there to back up those claims. I haven't seen anything that would say anything else but... What non-partial studies are you looking at, that contradict any of my claims? Think about it. We have a country of just barely under 300 million people, that costs trillions of dollars a year to run and support. If we look at adding approximately 12 million more people, the vast majority of whom are well below median income, most even below poverty level. The exsisting poor population of the United States uses an inordinate amount of social services as compared to what it pays into the system. As I have documented on numerous occasions, the lower 2 quartiles of the US taxpayers pays a negative tax rate, meaning they don't actually pay a net dime into the federal tax system, in fact they actually profit from our progressive tax system. So the poorest people in the country have a negative net cashflow to the federal government BEFORE they EVER use a single social service. Now if we add millions upon millions of MORE people to these very groups, what other conclusions are there to reach? Common sense alone says it will cost way more. Do you have anything to back up what you are saying??? QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) Can someone tell me how the gov't is going to collect taxes from illegals when they do not even know who they are or how much they have been paid? And if these jobs are low-paying like everyone says will this amnesty just increase the number of people who do not pay taxes but receive the benefits of citizenship. Net net these people will not pay any taxes after all deductions and EIC are accounted for right???? A great many of them will be making a profit off their taxes after credits such as EIC are factored into their taxes.

  12. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) Right, and Brewers fans are credible scouts. Just like the "scouts" here at Soxtalk. :rolly If Pods were incapable of playing the position, he would've been moved to one of the corners, rather than play CF for two straight years. Hell, Brady Clark moved over to CF last season after playing 138 games in RF in '04. Hell, even Manny Ramirez, who is an absolute butcher in LF, can play the position competently enough that he's not a liability. I fixed that for you.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) We still agree that illegal immigration has to stop. And you did say that you were not for ending all immigration. So we agree there. If I understand you, wages for these jobs must raise above the poverty level so the workers would not have to rely on so much government help. I assume that would mean all below poverty level jobs. You believe with illegals out of the job market, wages will rise above poverty level for the millions of people below that level. Would that also apply to companies like WalMart; and would the rise in part time labor as American students are attracted to these manual labor jobs hurt as they would not have benefits? Would the raise in wages happen with legal immigration, or would we have to curtail immigration all together? And getting back on topic, do you see immigrants taking desirable, better paying jobs as a bigger problem than immigrants taking low paying, less desirable jobs? Depends on what industries and wages we are talking about. In areas where there are unions you won't see much of a change, except for the companies who were using illegal labor. In areas where there is no wage protections, and lots of illegal labor used, you will see much more wage increases.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) Yep, '88. What trainer are you talking about? Check your PMs, I don't want to throw around the guys name in public.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) I agree, and since it will be so good for America, why don't we raise the minimum wage to accomplish it? I wonder at what salary level people pay more in taxes than they receive? With the very wealthiest Americans paying so much, I think it may be a lot higher than we think. With a graduated income tax, at least half the people pay more than their share to cover the bottom half and that hits the average. There would be no need to change minimum wage if we eliminated the artificial caps on wages, such as illegal immigration.
  16. More in salary, less in unemployment, social security, welfare, health insurance... etc.
  17. Joke I was sent this morning... Answer to the question up above... Maybe because we are spending so much money on providing for illegal aliens, that we aren't funding college educations enough?
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) I am so sick of that angle. It's been going on for the last 5+ years. Williams and Reinsdorf need to step up to the plate when it comes to Boras. I've grow tierd of players being automatically crossed off the Sox FA or trade list because they are Boras clients. T his isnt 2002, 18,000 a night baseball anymore. The Sox are defending World Champs, and have the 4th highest payroll in baseball. There is no reason that the Sox should work at a disadvantage because of an agent. No reason at all. We won the World Series last year, now much has it really hurt us? The thing is with a set budget, the amount extra you spend for a Borass client, comes out of our bottom line somewhere else. What Kenny has done is he has been able to spend every dime wisely instead of spending a ton on a few players, and having it cost him somewhere else.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 06:42 AM) Didnt you already do your "One shot in and im out" post and claim that you were never coming back? Then you come back with this? Come on man, you have better thoughts than this, I have seen them on VTalk. Dont try and stir the pot this way. This is all you need to remember from his first post here... Thanks, but no thanks troll-boy.
  20. I am going to be different and NOT say bullpen. I have been apalled by the complete lack of fundemental baseball over the past few weeks. As a matter of a fact, I will go out on a limb and say the Sox will be on the outside looking in for the playoffs if they keep playing this style of baseball, no matter what is done with the bullpen.
  21. Blurb in the Trib eluded to if Mackowiak doesn't work out in CF, that Pablo Ozuna could see some time out there... My advice? Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.
