I miss sandlot baseball, professional athletes being normal people who were good at a game, kids being able to play in the streets, and decent music being on the radio.

Southsider has a new family member thread
QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Mike, I am so glad that everything went well for your wife, and that everyone involved is healthy and happy. The little one looks adorable!! We were in a precarious spot for a while - too far "down the well" for a C-section, but not much progress with the pushing. The doctor was a little unsure what to do, but then FINALLY the kid started making her way to freedom again. Still, they eventually had to get the "salad tongs" and go get my little girl out. After all that, I literally can't believe that my wife wants to try getting pregnant again... The first thing the wife said when they put the baby in her hands, was that she had already forgotten all of the pain that she had just been in. The only time it was really bad was the two contractions in between head starting to come out, and the rest of the delivery. Other than that she wasn't too bad. Especially hearing some of the horror stories.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Pitocen is a life saver to women who have a stubborn bun in the oven. It comes with it's own risks.. but between that and having to have a c-section.. I'd take the drip. My sister had an epidural and loved it. Ang had a healthy dose of pitocin as she was induced for a few reasons. I think it makes sense when you are induced, but not when it is already happening on its own from what I understand, unless something else is going on.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) 7 hours......you just tell your wife she ( AND YOU!! ) got off LUCKY!! My favorite quote from the Mrs. while she was in labor: "Somebody get me out of here!!!" ....it about KILLED me that I couldn't respond when she said it.... OHHH, I almost forgot this part! when they gave her the epidural, they messed it up! It only numbed her left side, so they had to ROLL HER ON HER SIDE WHILE SHE WAS IN LABOR to let the epidural fluids seep over to the other side!!!! Modern medicine, my fat ass!!! The epidural was actually a life saver. She got it around the 4 hour mark, and she had been in some serious pain, and hadn't even gotten to the heavy pushing part yet. But then again our nurse saw who the doctor was on call and didn't like him at all. So she waited until he went on lunch, paged the chief of staff who she loves, and he came and gave the epi, despite it being his day off, and he was only at the hospital for paperwork. He came up and from the time he got in the room until the time he left was under 5 minutes, and he did it perfectly, with complete precesion. This was even while she had a contraction in the middle of him pushing the epi, and it was still done perfectly.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) My wife went 23 hours, including SEVEN hours of pushing! But our little girl is worth every second of it, and YES, that is VERY easy for me to say!!! Going back I had to respond... the wife had about 7 hours of labor, total. The hard pushing took about 45 minutes. And I agree with you 100% about the last line

Thanks so much everyone. I could feel the love from all over the country, and so could our baby Madison. Both mom and baby are extremely healthy and mostly happy. She was born 7 pounds 12 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. Believe me I tried for a good old fashioned southsider name but since Rally Crede didn't go over to well, Madison was a good old fashioned Chicago name. And really very appropriate considering mom and I couldn't be more different in many respects that it would take someone like her to run right down the middle of both of us. And now making her Soxtalk debut (we'll call this her first post when she joins, lol.) Madison!!!

Summer Internships
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) SnB, I hope you have more luck than I had looking for Vacation Work. The Chicago Exchange sounds like a good place though, we even learnt a little bit about it in one of my finance courses down here, because don't they still record transactions on a big blackboard or something? A couple of the pits in the Mercantile exchange are still all done on paper, such as the Pork Bellys and Cattle pits. The great majority of that stuff is electronic though. The blackboards went out in the 70's for the most part. Even the markets that aren't fully electronic trades, are at least updated by computers for the rest of teh world to see. If you ever come up here, make sure to see the trading floors. Since the SFE went electronic, I don't know where else you would see an authentic trading pit outside of Chicago.

Sox exercise buyout on Thomas' contract
QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) I would doubt that. I think they are going to wait until they receive more medical reports on the foot. That second separate fracture in the navicular is a cause for concern. Especially for a guy that weighs 270 pounds plus.

How's my outfit look...??
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Bush was a moron for putting a guy like this in charge of FEMA. If you want to put someone in charge of something as a favor you put him/her in a position where they cant hurt anyone not somewhere like FEMA where millions of people potentially could be depending on you. That is unless they give you a bunch of campaign contributions. Then you give them a night at the White House, or a pardon, or a good word with the SEC, or some nuclear technology...
