  1. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) To me every season is a failure unless you bring home the hardware.. Ladies and Gentlemen what you are observing here is one of the more peculiar traits exhibited by the homo sapians and that is what we like to call "posturing". It is most widely observed when a failure takes place, and the homo sapien is forced to stand in front of his peers after failing at a stated objective. Now lets stand back and watch how the rest of his tribe takes in his attempts to cover up for his shortfalls.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings/spring It would seem that the better teams cruised. I forgot hoe much we sucked in ST You don't remember all of the b****ing about Ozzie's line ups? He played the minor leagues kids a lot. Turns out that was pretty smart in retrospect, as it got guys like Jenks, McCarthy, and Anderson some valuable experience that is probably helping them out now.
  3. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Scott Podsednik had 2 stolen bases. This may be all he needs to get his confidence back, and with Podsednik rolling and turning singles into doubles and triples with his stolen bases... we might be able to do some postseason damage. Scott Podsednik.... yes. I think he is either getting some confidence back, or he is healing up... maybe both. When he started bunting again, it made me feel really good about Pods well being. The two steals only seals the deal IMO.
  4. This is exacting why the Yankees and Red Sox got into a bidding war over this guy. What an arm! Now that the Sox finally got him mentally straight you are seeing what scouts saw in this guy.
  5. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) If the Yanks win their final four games they have 96 wins. There are NO head-to-head tiebreakers in Baseball. Our magic number is 2! All we clinch with a win today is a tie for the division. We need Cleveland to lose tonight to clinch the division. If the Yankees win out, that means the Red Sox lose their last 3 games, and are knocked out of the wild card race with the Yankees winning the east. The Yankees winning the East also removes the Yankees from WC consideration leaving just us and Cleveland for the WC. And if we end up tied for the division and the wild card, it has already been well documented that the head to head record comes into play when both teams are guarenteed a playoff spot. Hopefully that makes sense.
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) WH and I were discussing this earlier. What happens if we win today, and then they go back to their hotels to watch the Clev game. Clev ends up losing, and we officialy win the division. Does the team go back to Comerica to celebrate? They celebrate anyway if they win. Because of the tiebreakers, the Sox would clinch at least a tie for the division/Wild Card with Cleveland, which would give them the division title by default. If the Sox win they are AL Central champs and they go nuts.
  7. I'll be watching on MLB.tv at work. Grill Grilli!!!
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) If we are going by what he did last week his routes/ reads suck. Prior to that? As good as anyone in the league. I will save this thread for whenever the time comes that anderson has a starting job in the majors period. Sox are anti steroids more than maybe any other team in baseball. That is why i did not understand the point of signing jeremy giambi. He has the same agent as Frank Thomas. If I had to guess, that has something to do with it. It was a favor to Tellum.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) I totally agree. I have stated on more than one occasion that all 3 levels of government failed miserably throughout that whole mess. But the instititution that likes to fashion itself as the 4th pillar of our government really screwed up here, and they deserve to be taken to task for their screw ups, just as much as anyone else did.
  10. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/ne...t_id=1001181569 more at link That is just wrong after all of the misreporting and out right lies that got reported as facts during Katrina, and the lack of verification that was put into them. I'd still bet that if you asked a layperson how many people died in the Superdome, they wouldn't tell you anything like 6 or 10. They would probably list something in the hundreds or thousands that they heard while everything was happening. Much of those rapes, murders, and lawlessness have also had issues when trying to be verified. It was also the media who was telling people in NO that things were going to be nearly as bad as they thought, directly contradicting the politicians who were telling them to leave town at the critical hours of evactuation. The media failed BIG TIME in Katrina. They were too worried about ratings, and not nearly worried enough about the facts.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) :rolly What we have here in this thread is a lynch mob mentality. These are just allegations. They are NOT crimes. There needs to be sufficient evidence before they can be called that. But I'm not surprised at all this mentality exists at SOXTALK. Actually the church NOT reporting crimes against children to the proper authorities IS a crime. As is aiding and abetting a felony by sending them somewhere else to avoid potentially facing a procecution/investigation. But then again why let facts start getting in the way now :rolly.
  12. I guess the Blum thread 10 posts down wasn't good enough to rant in, huh?
  13. If at first you don't succeed... sky diving is probably not for you.
  14. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) The White Sox in August and September of 2005. THAT'S NOT A GOOD JOKE!!! BAD KID!!!
  15. QUOTE(alexgtp @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) Only question I have is.. WTF is the small ball that got us that record. It has been non existant..!! Actually if you watch the games closely the small ball isn't the problem. Its having someone get a key hit to finish things that has been the problem. We are bunting, stealing, walking moving over runners, and sacrificing just fine again. We just keep having guys die at 3rd base. That isn't the fault of small ball, that is just a lack of clutch hitting, which is completely different.
  16. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT How about the "Just Minor's" cards? Are they worth anything?
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) That's hardly cheap. That said, with the recent steroid madness, guys like Paul Konerko who produce 30-40HR on a fairly consistant basis and do it CLEANLY are really going to see their vaule sky-rocket. I never thought I would say it, but, guys like Paul Konerko have become a rare commoditiy. In the Paul Konerko market $33 million is going to be cheap. I think we are looking at the $45-50 million range when all is said and done. Sad, but with Pauly being the premier hitter on the market, it is entirely possible.
  18. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Well, I suppose I could see both Houston and Boston offering that fourth year. But, I fear that might be something Reinsdorf and company shys away from. At some point, I just have to admit that I still find solace in good old hometown favoritism and loyalty. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with wanting the most green. Baseball is a business. But, I can still dream can't I? Trust me I would love to see Pauly back here for cheap, but I think if that were going to happen, it would have happened already.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) All is well. Mother and daugher are resting comfortably. Joe supposedly heading back to Detroit for the game tonight. great to hear the good news. Congrats to the Crede's
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) IMHO, 3yr/$33M gets it done. Thoughts on that? As for Konerko being the only major-leauge hitter in our lineup...I couldn't agree more with that statement. He needs to be back. NEEDS to be back. I would be shocked if he signs for anywhere near that little money. There are teams that need his juice-free bat, badly, us being one of them. I have no doubt he will get at least a 4 year deal with at least $11 million a year.
  21. QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) I can't believe you guys can't see the difference and the irony. The man didn't have some arbitrary injury. He was beaned by the so-called best pitcher on your staff. Who just so happens to play for the team that we are now 2 games behind. It should have never happened. And nobody can tell me that it was just an accident. Burhle is not known for his wildness. I know baseball teams have to deal with injuries year in and year out, but that one was without a doubt a season changer for the tribe. One last thing. I am grateful to be even aguing these things with you guys, because of the emotion, it means there are good things at stake here. Mark Buehrle, headhunter... Yeah that's it So your're telling me that Buehrle meant to hit Travis Hafner in the face with a pitch, give him a concussion, and knock him out for 17 games, because he knew that the Sox were going to play .500 ball for the next two months while the tribe played .800 ball. This isn't your site here is it? http://www.timecube.com/
  22. Or Patrick Fitzgerald indicting George Ryan... Oh wait...
  23. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) If the Sox and Tribe end up tied AND have a better record than the second place team in the ALE THEN H2H records matter. The Sox will automatically be named division champs. That's actually what I was trying to say, I guess I wasn't very clear about it.
  24. QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) I'm not trying to piss anybody off. I'm just pissed that the tribe may not make the dance, and in my opinion stand a hell of a lot better chance of advancing than the Sox. And I understand that it's a marathon and not a sprint. However the Sox remind me of the Ironman guy on the Gatorade commercial suffering from dehydration in the final 50 meters of the race. And what really pisses me off is the amount of time that Pronk missed because of Buerhle. We get that month back with Pronk and the Sox are looking up at us. Say what you want, but that's a fact. How about if Frank Thomas doesn't rebreak his ankle? You think the Sox would have still been struggling offensively? How about if Pods doesn't pull his hammy? How about if Crede's back hadn't been bugging him for a couple of months? HOw about if Hermanson's back hadn't been bothering him, and Jenks hadn't had 2 BS's and a L in 3 consecutive days? Its easy to play the "what if" game for any team, but in reality, injuries are part of the game. Period.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:16 AM) For the record, clinching a wild card tie is clinching nothing. If we tie with Cleveland for the division/wildcard, then we actually take the division title by virtue of head to head record.
