  2. I watched a great special on the History Channel about the Oracle of Delphi in Greece, and what gave it its mystical powers. Here is more about it from National Geographic. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...lphioracle.html
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) I don't know where else to post this, and it doesn't deserve its own thread, but I'm in a mood to rant... I'm a graduate student in Geology. I'm at Caltech, and I've been in California for 2 years now. I've walked on at least 5 active faults while out here. I haven't felt an earthquake my entire time here. The White Sox have now felt more earthquakes than I have. Wow. Be careful what you wish for
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) I was certain for the first month, now I'm not so sure. It's not like he's getting regular work in against people, with all these close games, and it's not like pitching in Coors field is the answer for him either. Actually last night would have been an interesting spot to use Shingo. He would have had a 3 run lead, and a big ballpark to pitch in.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) A rule that can be learned by search google or PM'ing someone who knows what they are talking about. The pale hose forum has gotten extremely watered down lately, so much that its hard to engage in a discussion with the more knowledgeable members. The thing is that not everyone has that much knowledge, and there is no way of getting it other than asking questions. I much prefer a basic question to a guy who has no idea what he is talking about, but acts like he does. The best way to have a bunch of people who know what they are talking about is to have the people who do know, teach the people who don't know. Another factor I thought of is that it builds a solid following here on the board. Some kid gets his question answered today, then keeps reading through all of the different posts and starts to learn the game in depth, and eventually becomes a contributing poster. Whereas instead of answering the question someone puts out a snide comment, and the kid either never comes back, or just starts to cause trouble because he got embarrassed by some of the snarky comments other people made to him. Essentially it is a good way to build repour on a board that has been lacking it lately.
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) I don't care if they through 120 if they are still getting rocked. I was just going to say, look no further than a guy like Chris Hammond who tops out at about 80 and it still effective.
  7. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) He could probably play RF better than Dye. And from the sounds of it, he could definately play LF better than Pods.
  8. QUOTE(rowand's rowdies @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) ROWAND'S ROWDIES will be there tonight. bleachers. feel free to join us and give aaron his props for his game winning blast and fishing success. Welcome to Soxtalk, and raise HELL for us tonight
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Sure why not bring him in, he can't be worse than Shingo. He was awesoem in 03 and 04 for the Giants. So wait, you want to get rid of a guy who has been horrible this year, and awesome last year, for a guy who has been horrible this year, because he was awesome last year? uh, ok.
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) The Sox will finish the game in double digits in runs scored and hits. Wow, making this prediction reminded me of ol' Poopy Hiladgo. Whatever happened to him? The Sox are winning.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) IIRC they questioned it when the 9/11 Fund was established. Yeah that is why is stuck out to me.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) But then the dogs would have to have pulled him upstairs.. they haven't said much about the scene. Interesting thought though. The article claims he had a severe wound to the head.. like he hit it against something.. or was hit with something After watching my in-laws dogs play, they shake toys back and forth quickly, I could see how a head trauma could occur.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) Anyone know if the Pentagon families got settlements..? Or the Okalahoma City families? I know the OKC families got nothing. I don't know about the Pentagon.
  14. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Everyone had the chance to get steroids before they were banned. Were they cheating? One HUGE difference is that steroids have always been illegal. Does baseball need rules against murdering people and child porn too?

  16. It'll be interesting. Usually the host manager gets picked to be a coach, so that takes up one spot. Luckily we know that they won't choose a Yankees coach, so we are safe there. If we keep winning, Ozzie has a good shot of going.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) I like that idea, maybe even a couple hundred more, so I dont have to answer the, when do the rosters expand question. Pardon me while I got all philosophical for a second, but I think part of the reason we exsist, is to serve as a learning tool for other Sox fans. Especially when you factor in the age difference between some of the posters, basic questions are to be expected, and if we want to help them along their trip of learning, these are minor inconviences. Also questions like that are harmless.
  18. That is Carlos little brother.
  19. Updated stats from Man-Hands... (1-1) 7 saves, 28 games, 31.1 IP, 15 BB, 35 K, 17 Hits, 2 HR. Baj has factored into 8 of the 20 wins that Charlotte has as a team.
  20. I thought this might be fitting...
  21. QUOTE(mwolfson @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Yeah, I thought so... So let's say they call up 4-5 players, who do you guys think they will be. Thanks! Depending on what moves are made during the rest of the season, right now we only have one open spot on the 40 man roster, so basically they all would be guys on there. I think Brian Anderson has his name all over the 40th slot, barring a trade. Also look for guys like Jeff Bajenaru, Jaime Burke, Joe Borchard if he can get going, Arnie Munoz, and Felix Diaz. Don't know how I forgot Brandon McCarthy
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Are there any rules as far as having Jenks up on the 25-man by the end of the year, 'cause he was a waiver-wire pickup? I always get confused on the waiver stuff... Or, is it that he just needs to be on the 40-man? I am pretty sure he just needs to be on the 40 man roster. I don't think there are any extra requirements for waiver wire adds.
  23. Welcome to Soxtalk... Sept first is roster expansion and it goes to 40 players, all though they never recall close to that many players, more like 5 or 6 players tops.
  24. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) I will go in the NHL ones sometimes and read it, then post that I could really careless about hockey. I feel I am entitled to my opinion on it. What I don't get, is why waste your time, and the time of people who actually care about it?
