Score Reports...
At this point you have nothing to lose and two QBs with a grand total of 4 career starts. Why not sign him?
-
Garland
What bigger hole have the Sox had for years than their 5th starter?

Damn. That puts the Bears firmly in the Mike Williams derby.

Garland
More on why I don't want Grilli as a number 5. http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/teams/player_bio.asp...188&hubname=CHA how about his 6.61 career major league ERA? how about his 5.25 career AAA ERA? how about 2004 being the first year since since 1999 that he has thrown over 100 innings in a whole season? how about 2004 being the 8th year that he has spent time at AAA and he still had an era of 4.83 to show for it? how about him having not one single quality start in his 6 starts with the Sox? how about him having a grand total of one quality starts including his times in the MLs with Florida? I would rather see Diaz for sure over Grilli. Grilli would be more the 5th starter garbage.

Garland
For $3 million who do you expect to be able to sign that is going to put up better numbers than Garland?

Why Not Trade Both
We are a 4th place team at best without Maggs, Pauly, and CLee. Unless we got huge talent in return to replace them, this franchise would be done. This team wouldn't draw a million fans if they replaced those guys with just minor leaguers. Plus what top flight FA would want to come to a team that just gutted all of its best players?

Choices
I agree. I think it is good that any administration has different voices in it.

Anyone Else....
Defense hasn't been questioned, handling pitchers has. Those are two different things. And he had to be worth something because Seattle insisted he be in the deal. They thought enough of him to deal their #1 pitcher for him and another couple of prospects. You might be viewing the guy through some bias. Just by reading your posts about him and other players it gets kind of obvious that you let personal hate of players interfere with your opinions of them.

Filling holes w/o making a new one
Actually I am not sure where lots of the speculation is coming from. KW himself has said he doesn't want to trade his powerhitters. To me that means Frank, Carlos, and PK are safe. Just by listening to what has been said, the guys who should be packing their bags are Crede, Valentin, and Garland. If those two offensive guys get moved, it will give the Sox the flexibility in the line up to reshape the hitters to the form that Oz is looking for.

Anyone Else....
Not when you compare the way they play behind the plate. Olivos D vs Burkes D is worth a bunch of batting average points IMO. Plus Burke is as good as he is ever going to get, Olivo is going to be an elite catcher. If I had the choice, there is no doubt I would jump all over Miguel.

Your suckiest job
It was the most high energy, high stress job I ever had. I worked in the AOL stock options trading pit at the height of the internet bubble. We were trading more options that the OEX, over 100,000 per day on lots of days. There were over 100 people in our trading pit at the top. We busted our asses like mad to keep up. It was utter insanity, and I loved every minute of it. I looked forward to the chaos. Heck I still miss it today.

Your suckiest job
That is exactly how I lost my favorite job ever. Damn I miss those people and that company. It was the best.

Jose Valentin on Chicago/ Sox fans
Thanks Jose. Even though he hasn't had much of a year in 2004, I gotta give it up to him. We have jerked around this guy since the day he got here. They had him play that ultra-utility roll playing CF and 3B until he hurt himself, and made him drop hitting right handed, while still playing against tough lefties, brought in Royce Clayton to replace him at SS, and you NEVER heard a word of complaint from him. Can you imagine any of our "stars" taking all of that BS in stride? The guy has been a class act. To Jose Even if it is time for the Sox and Jose to part ways, I will never begrudge him. Go get 'em Jose.

Crude at new highs, pushing $50/bbl
Personally I don't buy it It doesn't make any sense. We are leaving peak seasonal demand, and the supply interuption was temporary. I haven't heard of any significant permanent capacity loss because of the hurricane. I think this is more a case of talking heads, but I guess we will see.

Fantasy baseball review
Me and Mathew are tied at 6 going into the last week of play. We are also tied in two different categories. This is going to be a fun week.
