  1. It just never ceases to amaze me that we will drop a few million on a crappy utility back up middle infielder, when the same few million dollars in the front office could pay 100X in the future by giving you cheap players with 6 years of control so you didn't waste millions on negative WAR players to fill out a roster.
  2. Something that takes the original Fedde 2/15 deal and maybe adds a bit to it isn't a bad thought. Obviously I think we all want to see if he turns into a pumpkin and regresses to his career norms, or even to his expected outcomes for this year, but something in the 2/20 to 2/25 range might be an interesting starting point with the history he has behind him.
  3. Obviously you want him to keep pitching as long as he isn't hurting himself doing so, but I also would have no problems with a couple weeks off and/or shorter and shorter stints.
  4. I don't think I would put a real wager out there for it, but I would be blown away if someone offers this guy a 3/60 at his age, and complete lack of historic success.
  5. I am not sure if that is better or worse than letting your front office make the picks and then firing them.
  6. I mean yes, you don't bench him unless he turns into Vinny Capra. We have the time to figure out who he is, let him (and the others in similar situations) the rope they need.
  7. Yeah, these aren't major league salaries, especially for the day to day, non-management, crew.
  8. You said the quiet part out loud.
  9. I don't know about Vargas, but we know for a fact that Shane Smith is approaching a career high in innings not even halfway through the season, and his previous career high of innings was achieved over a 6 month period and not a 3 month one. Because of this it is tough to pick apart what is conditioning, what is the league figuring him out, or some combination of both. Obviously on the conditioning side of things, the Sox need to get more involved in picking their spots to give him shorter outings, longer breaks etc. It would be nice to let him continue on, but you really have to monitor his stuff his health to make sure that he isn't hurting himself to continue. Injuries increase with fatigue, and we need to make sure we don't let that happen into a more major injury.
  10. I wonder if this is the reason that pitching doesn't seem to come out of the DR at the volume that hitting seems to be. Very interesting either way. Is there a similar US college/High School study?
  11. *I would also have accepted THAT'LL GET GETZ FIRED!
  12. Houser matched up with a reliever or Robert is an interesting thought.
  13. They matched up almost exactly, with a slight advantage to Smith on the K's area.
  14. xERA 3.65 FIP 3.12 xFIP 4.03 All are around a run per game better than his history average, but 1.5 to 2.5 runs per game worse than he is doing now. So yes, both lucky and much improved. It will be interested to see if this is real, or if the league adjusts back.
  15. Extend Houser? Why? So he can pitch on a couple of more 100 loss team seasons? Trade him for the highest offer and look for the next project.
  16. 100% here. See what Mike Rizzo wants for starters.
  17. Look, if the Yankees and White Sox offered you 50 million a year next year, where would you go? I don't blame them.
  18. Nope. The discussion was values over the winter.
  19. Great, so now by your own standards you can never be right.
  20. If it were me, I would probably sit on the cash until the team is a bit more filled in. Whoever you bring in is still going to suffer through years of losing, and I am not sure you want that.
  21. Draft chat https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-draft-chat-with-carlos-collazo-7-9-25/
  22. I don't, which is why I don't think this team will be good at anytime in the rest of this decade. I do not see nearly enough offensive talent, nor a compelling reason to add to this team in any meaningful way in free agency.
  23. I really hope he is the next dude in the booth, and hopefully really soon.
  24. He started doing that when he would get sick of Hawk and hasn't really stopped since.
