I'm sure he's happy. He can get all the best drugs in the slammer now.

Too late.

So is Foulke not the closer anymore?

Not upset, just concerned (mainly about the offense). Thome is a huge upgrade at DH and Anderson will probably be around status quo with 2005 Rowand but the rest of our lineup is the same. Our hitters still give up far too many easy outs. I think we will struggle again this season with team OBP, and that is the single most important offensive team stat. I don't see the bottom of our order (Pierzynski, Crede, Uribe, and Anderson) being much better than last season. They just don't hit for average or draw enough walks. But I guess we won with great pitching and the longball last season so it's possible to do the same again this season.

Exactly. It's frustrating to no end.

I think Iguchi should have probably made a better response than "no comment." He should have said something like, "I will do whatever is best for the team." Of course, Iguchi sitting on the bench really isn't what's best for the team due to him being our fourth best hitter. Ozzie probably shouldn't have snapped off like that. I wonder what Gload must be thinking. Dude can't even buy an at bat off the bench and he's our best pinch hitter.
-
Good. We need all the offense we can get. Iguchi is a better hitter than Cintron so I sure as hell hope he isn't benched too much this season.
-
Check back in 2 months, even though retirement is likely in his future. Yep, AJ stuck his ass into a pitch and Ozuna stuck his knee in the way of a pitch. Those weren't intentional HBP's at all. The one to Thome's back probably was though.

I have and I absolutely hate it. They stumble on and on like Hawk and DJ about some stupid story instead of describing the game action. It's okay for Hawk and DJ to do it because you can still actually see the game on TV. You can't do that sort of crap on the radio. Stop the story, fill us in on the game, and get back to the stupid story when there is a suitable break in the action. It's like a couple of college kids trying to cover a game -- very amateurish broadcast.

Cintron is exactly that -- depth. Iguchi is our fourth best hitter after Thome, Konerko, and Dye and should not be losing too many AB's to Cintron. But Tad should still keep his mouth shut if Ozzie does choose to bench him.
-
Great point cuz Gload will barely be playing any 1B this season unless Konerko gets hurt. Our best hitter off the bench and Ozzie apparently doesn't like using him. Frustrating.
-
Trust me, Blake is not normally that good in RF. Sizemore is as good as advertised though.
-
I think and I hope that most people realize that the season is far from over. But seeing Ozzie apparently make a couple managerial mistakes in the third game of the season is a bit unsettling IMO.
-
Exactly what I was thinking. If so, it was a horrible move. If Iguchi bunted on his own, it's not Ozzie's mistake.
-
A couple of factors -- Ozzie has shown in the past that he likes bunting a runner to 2nd to get the runner in scoring position with 1 out. Also, maybe Podsednik's groin is still bothering him so Ozzie didn't want him straight stealing 2nd base. I'd like to hear why you think Iguchi was bunting for a hit by himself without Ozzie's sign? Sure seemed like a designed play to me.
-
IMO, Ozzie's bigger mistake was taking the bat out of Thome's hands. With no outs, Iguchi sac bunted Podsednik to second base with Thome due up. I doubt Iguchi was bunting on his own. Wedge just IBB'ed Thome to get to Konerko and Paulie predictably grounded into the DP. You could just see it happening. Dusty Baker made the same mistake with Derrek Lee last season. You don't take the bat out of your best and hottest hitter's hands, especially not for a struggling hitter (Konerko).
-
That wouldn't make much sense IMO. It is quite obvious that Thome is our best hitter. He needs to bat third so he can get the most AB's and most AB's with RISP. Konerko just needs to ride out his slump. And hopefully Dye will be batting behind him soon.
-
Thirded. There was really nothing wrong with fathom's post.
-
Indeed, although Ozzie DID get outmanaged a bit.
-
Ugliest game I have seen in awhile. How many men were left on base?
-
It's possible but I really don't think so.
-
Earlier in the game, Ozzie had Iguchi lay down a sac bunt. So Wedge just IBB'ed Thome to get to Konerko. And then Konerko GIDP'ed. That was Dusty-esque.
-
His worst move of today was still taking the bat out of Thome's hands earlier in the game. I won't blame him for the Hafner homer because afterall Logan is supposed to be our LOOGY.
