Just saw a trailer for the new HBO series "True Detective" with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. Looks phenomenal.
  2. Wow. Didn't expect that type of response. I shot the deer legally and humanely. I searched for blood for over 20 minutes after I shot it but I lost sight of her very quickly after the shot and didn't see that she circled back. I was hunting in the UP of Michigan, where it was well below freezing. There was not a chance in hell the deer was going to rot. We eat every bit of venison from the deer that we harvest. This wasn't shooting an animal just to shoot an animal. And much like wite said, the deer herd needs to be managed in the UP, where they can very quickly get overpopulated. There are wolves, coyotes, black bears and cougars in those woods and in the 20+ years we have hunted on that land, NOT ONCE has a deer ever been touched. Waiting until the morning to search for a deer is extremely common. I don't blame anyone for "not getting" hunting. That's fine. But if you're going to rip someone for it, I hope none of you have ever gone fishing or eaten fast food.

Re-watching season 1 of Prison Break, because it was/is amazing.
  4. Here's my hunting season update for those (no one) who cares: shot a doe Friday night, wasn't much blood and it was getting dark quick. Waited for the morning to go find her. Finally found a blood trail and walked up to about 1/3 of the deer. I hate you, wolves.
  5. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) Did you end up making it down to Tally for the Maryland game? No, ended up working pretty much every Saturday this season. Would have been a hell of a game to go see.
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) LOL Don't ask my why, but I loved Peter Warrick and Chris Weinke, plus FSU's colors and logo and helmet and Bobby Bowden and Chief Osceola and everything else is/was just awesome.
  7. Where are the good Cyber Monday deals?
  8. Just got back from the woods to see that Bama lost to Auburn. While (as an FSU fan) I was hoping to face Bama in the BCS Championship game because that's the game everyone wanted to see, I am A LOT more confident that they can beat OSU. Great news, provided they don't blow the ACC title game against Duke. FSU #1 in the BCS polls for the first time since 1999, they year they beat Mike Vick in the Sugar Bowl and made me a Noles fan. Good times.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) What's the difference? Are you trying to turn this into a race thing? When did I say anything about race?
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Lol. Ok Dude, come on. No one wants to see NIU play Baylor or Mizzou or Auburn or Clemson and be totally outmatched. It's annoying. Yes, they "hung in there" for a while against FSU last year, but Lynch averaged 4.3 yards/pass and 1.9 yards/rush and NIU was outgained 534-259. If FSU didn't have so many penalties and EJ Manuel knew how to finish a drive, they'd have gotten blown out. FSU's fullback ran for 134 yards on 5 carries and outran everyone on NIU's D. I don't blame NIU one bit. It's not their fault the system is the way it is. But on behalf of everyone in the world that isn't an NIU fan, keep these guys out of the BCS.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) Well, that was a productive 14 hours or so. Building security where the wife works found the guy. He came through the back loading dock and waited for two of her co-workers to exit and ran in and cased the joint. My wife, having left her wallet on top of her purse, made her an easy target. Here's the f***stick in action. He's part of the Florida Felony Lane Gang, as Kyyle mentioned, this is something that happens all the time. They have a shot of his car and license plate both at her work and Target, and nice pretty shots of both dudes' faces at Target. Idiots will be rounded up before the end of the day I would imagine. And yes, we'd like to press charges. I understand that this sucks and it is very annoying for you, but why is it necessary to post his picture on here? Seems odd. Glad they found the guy though.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 12:38 AM) Obviously athlete cheating happens everywhere even down in D2, MAC etc. but is this story going to cause a floodgate of whistle blowers? QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) I don't know, that was pretty shocking to me. I was in classes with football players a lot, it's not like it's out in the open behavior like this if it happens. I figured they'd mostly just not give a s***. I'm with Rock here. I went to a D2 school with a big time football program and some of the things I knew about the players and what the program did for them is ridiculous. There are cases like this with every school.
  13. Ya, I'm over the NIU hype train too. Hooray for them getting into a BCS game only to lose badly and look outclassed and overmatched. Someone said tonight that NIU beating Ball State was their "signature win." Umm, ya, o-f***ing-k.
  14. I'm fairly certain no one around here does much hunting (you damn city folk!) but I am so pumped. Rifle season in Michigan opens up Friday and I have a lot of days off coming up.
  15. Peanut Tillman on IR with a tricep injury. Can't play rest of regular season but could return for the playoffs. Cutler week to week with a high ankle sprain.
  16. If Vincent Jackson scores fewer than 21 points tomorrow, but still outscores Miami's D/ST by more than 4.5 points, I will go 3-0.
  17. Yes, I know it's Wake Forest, but 7 takeaways today by FSU...and that's without both starting safeties. Winston and the offense get all the hype, but that defense is ridiculously talented and extremely deep. The secondary has two true freshman and they combined for 2 picks, a fumble forced, a fumble recovered, and 2 TD. I just hope Kelvin Benjamin isn't out too long with the concussion.
  18. FSU hasn't been relevant in 13 years? They were in a BCS bowl last season. And they've finished the season in the top 25 every single season since 1987, and since 2000, they've been top 15 four times and been in 4 BCS bowls. They were an upset to NC State away from the National Championship game last season, too.
  19. I think it's funny that "David Freese sucks" but would have had the 2nd best OPS+ on the WSox last season and highest OBP. Ok.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) You didn't turn off the recorder and ask about Cliff?! Ha, I wish. Wasn't a chance in hell he'd even hint at something.
  21. Had an opportunity to do a 1-on-1 with Groce today at Big Ten Media Day. Guy just oozes passion and it really looks like players enjoy playing for him. Bertrand, Egwu and Abrams were all there as well. He said the biggest surprise from year one as head coach was simply how much more time he had to commit to the program. From media requests to overall attention to the program, it was a huge step up from Ohio. Second biggest surprise was the strength of the conference and how even in conference play, you might have 4 or 5 straight games against top 25 teams. Obviously he was very high of the Big Ten conference, lauding the depth from top to bottom and mentioning how even teams in the bottom half are so talented and have really good players, and a lot of teams have a lot of good players returning. He's excited to add Rutgers and Maryland to the conference next season. He hates when people ask about him bringing in "his guys" and how he apparently inherited another coach's team but he was very adamant in saying that last year's team was "his guys" and how much he loved them and thanked them for the hard work. As for this season, he's really expecting a lot out of Abrams and Egwu, specifically in leadership roles, but more so to be more consistent and share the experience with the young guys. When asked about the loss to Miami, he said it motivates him and the returning players. "Guys tasted some Filet Mignon and got a couple bites, now you want more of that." He understands that it is expected of Illinois to compete and make the tournament every year. In regards to recruiting, he basically insinuated that Illinois sells itself. Specifically mentioned the Forbes ranking as one of the top schools, as well as the sell-out crowds, the arena and the renovations, the facilities/upgrades, the Big Ten conference and most importantly, the people he has around him. Absolute pleasure to talk to.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 01:43 AM) Brad Mills is the man.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) As bad as the Big10? OSU and Wisconsin would challenge for any conference. I guess the PAC 10 benefits from jobbing Wisconsin? Not sure why you are so down on OSU. Come on now.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:33 PM) The problem with that trade is Toronto wouldn't be on board with it. Let's all get serious here. We all hope and most think Danks will be better next season, but he was getting lit up and is owed a ton of money. Beckham has been having almost identical problems as Lawrie, but he costs more. A trade like this makes no sense for Toronto. And if Toronto needs pitching, why are they looking to move Sanchez? None of this makes sense other than Beckham interests them, and maybe the Sox make it work for Lawrie or maybe it's for some minor leaguer Paddy likes. They're not. But if you're the GM of any team, you're going to ask about one of the top prospects in baseball. That's common sense. Hahn asking for one of those guys in return DOES NOT mean Toronto is seeking to trade those guys. They refused to part with Sanchez last year in the two major deals they made. And now he's better and closer to the bigs. They aren't giving him up for Beckham and/or Danks. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/thread...nchez-Stroman-) Interesting to see Toronto's fans' reactions for context. Most think they'd be foolish to give up Stroman/Sanchez for Beckham/Danks. Some think Stroman/Sanchez is sufficient for Sale. (HA!) All think Gordon Beckham is a bust and/or piece of garbage. If Stroman/Sanchez are the two major trade chips in the deal, that could get you damn near any pitcher in the MLB. They have every right to feel that way, but of course, Sale is one of the most valuable players in all of baseball right now considering age/production/contract, and he's not going anywhere. I've been saying for over a week now that just because teams are asking about Sanchez/Stroman, by no means are they available. I also don't understand why Lawrie's name keeps being brought up. Yes, it would fill a need, but that doesn't mean he's available. It's hard to see Toronto move a talent like that, at his age/price, also considering the lack of quality 3B in the league. Also, he's Canadian. He's a hometown boy. He puts butts in seats.
