  3. QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) That bad boy does hook up to HDTV dont it? You have a couple of different 3rd party solutions now, although Apple is kind of caught with their pants down and they wanted all the media center doodads to be their products. Firstly, with teh DVI monitor connection, there is an easy way to hook the mini (or any G5 mac) into maybe half of the HDTVs right ouit of the box. For the rest, there are converters that can be found. Really, though, the mini is just going to be the CPU and the hard drive of a TiVo-type setup. You still need a DTV tuner and there are two firewire-based solutions I've seen out there that are built to play nice with G5s. These are Elegato's Eye TV 500... and the ComCast/Motorolla DVR... If anybody wants to send me any of this hardware, I'll be glad to give it a test drive and write up a review.
  4. That Rozner piece is dead on. Great article.
  5. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Tangled Up in Blue--either the Dylan version or the Indigo Girls one. I just love that song.... It took me a week to learn all those damn lyrics. Now it's something I play out almost every time I get a chance - which is not often enough sadly. She was married when we first met - soon to be divorced. Helped her out of a jam I guess, but I used a little too much force... Freakin' brilliant.
  6. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) That is really sweet! I assume you guys already researched looking into some sort of a video server that you could conect all the cameras up to then send those out? Yeah, I guess the individual feeds will come in from Broadcaster and then go through the Darwin Streaming Server software for delivery. I'm more the 'visionary' and I'll let the webhead figure it out. But in my little marine science media group we are all hardcore Macheads and wouldn't touch the cheap iron if you paid us.
  7. Tough question to be sure. Toss up between "Time Loves a Hero" by Little Feat, "Birthday Carol/Baby Let's Swing" by Todd Rundgren, and "Uncle Remus" by Zappa. Unless I can count side 2 of Abbey Road as one song...
  8. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) I think its just a craptacular day all around. Big hugs to the soxy girl from upstate New York. Come to Noamie Gnomie?? Watch out for his "elfin magic." Nevermind, I'm just busting your chompsk.. er..., chops.
  9. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) I had a way s***ty day. And then someone said something (it was actually really nice) and I cried. I friggin cried at work. Most awkward/embarressing moment of my life.... Somebody needs a hug...
  10. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Somehow, I'm jealous of you Jim. LOL! You can't pull off the leg warmer look, eh? Well, what can I say - it's s a gift. Congratulations!
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) And fla, with all this new found time, does that mean your going to chase for the record and surpass 2k??? Only if the greuling dance studio schedule permits...
  12. I have very exciting news for you all. I have decided to step down from SLAP Modhood to pursue other activities. If you want to know the truth, I've decided to spend more time in pursuing my true life-long goal of becoming a Solid Gold® Dancer. I already have the leg warmers and the sweatbands and, quite frankly, I look marvelous. Now I just have to learn how to dance. At any rate, it is my great pleasure to let you know that one of the true SLAP All-Stars, Mr. winodj will be the new Sheriff in town. Hit him early and often, people. The boy's gonna fold like a cheap suit. Welcome to the Biggs, Mr. DJ!!

    Iron Chef

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) I like her 30 minute cooking show, but could do with out the other two shows she does. I love the original Iron Chef - I even have a shirt with a picture of the bell pepper with the bite taken out of it. Because I'm a dork, of course. I like the NEW US version too, mainly because of Alton Brown being the host. I don't know if any of you had the, er, privelege of seeing the sad, sad first attempt at an Iron Chef America with William Shatner as the host. That was just sad. I love all of Rachel Rey's shows, especially the $40 a day. I thought she was getting a little chunky last year and maybe the'd cut her down to $30 (), but I gotta say she is looking really good these days.
  14. Many Happy Returns of the Day!
  15. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) used to like macs for multimedia use until one pretty much literally ate my zip disk with all my graphics homework for the semester. have hated them since...lol Well.... there's a life lesson about having your work backed up now, isn't there?
  16. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Mac Mini - 499 dollars new. We're going to get some minis and hook them up with iSight firewire camera systems and wire the campus of the oceanographic institution I work for with them for webcam type applications.
  17. That is a fairly encouraging report. I want to see this day go as well as anybody. And it does show an amazing amount of courage that peeople are turning out en masse, given the danger they know they are putting themselves in.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) Coming to theatres, Summer 2005..... "In a world where the balls are larger than normal, the hands are unprotected and it seems like there are too many men on the field, ONE MAN has the power to save his teammates from defeat.....armed with only his own will....and a triple-walled aluminum bat......he gives them hope.....pride.....and a 3-run 7th inning double..... Starring: RENEE ZELLWEGER......as the perky barmaid with a heart of gold...... JOHN GOODMAN......as the cranky umpire who seems to have it in for "the good guys"..... ALEC BALDWIN.......as the wise, grizzled coach who inspires him to look inward..... ....and in his finest role, as the aging hotshot ballplayer who arrived looking for hits but leaves finding something MUCH more important...... TOM CRUISE IS...... SHORT CENTER" ...this movie has not yet been rated.... ( EDITED TO ADD that you and I both realize that Tom Cruise would never play the lead role in any movie with SHORT in the title.... )
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ima...3195-2005Jan27L I bet she can "go f*** herself." He looks like he's attending a football game. "And the Green Bay Packers are just about ready to take the field on a frigid January afternoon..."
  20. QUOTE(juddling @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) A new low in PC? No. A reasonable expectation that the Vice President of the United States should understand how to dress for a solemn, formal occassion.
  21. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) "The policy is being implemented and we're moving forward." Which is effectively saying "PLEASE STOP LOOKING BACKWARD, because you're just hitting the tip of the icegerg on this and we'd rather you stopped." But this is not 'some politician.' This is the federal government's Dept. of Health and Human Services employing a payola scam to buy recognized experts' very media-visable support of controversial Administration-backed and agendized policies. It's bad enough that entire govermnet agencies are being strongarmed into implementing policies they do not believe in - but it is their job and they can quit if they don't like it. It is entirely another matter to have purported experts from various fields lend vocal support and therefore tacit approval to these policies not because they have objectively concluded theat they are sound, but because they are being thrown a big fat bone. And amazingly, it never occurred to these tools that there might be a conflict of interest or that ethically they should maybe disclose that their "expert opinion" has been bought.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) I would like to thank my parents who allowed me the freedom to listen to all kinds of music. The inventor of the 8-track player who allowed me to listen to 2 1/2 song per track endlessly looping until a lever was hit, and most of all to google.com for finding me the answer. Dang, I pegged you as one of the few here that might also own a copy of that on good old vinyl. Cheater.
  23. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) All he needs is a pair of fools to play his game. And Tom Hicks can't control his inner fool sometimes.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 08:02 AM) "You Can Make Me Dance Sing Or Anything (Even Take The Dog For A Walk, Mend A Fuse, Fold Away The Ironing Board, Or Any Other Domestic Shortcomings)" Rod Stewart or Faces, I cannot remember anymore. unless we cannot count parenthetic material No, parentheticals don't cut it. WE HAVE A WINNER!!! Off of Umaguma if i am remembering correctly?
