Lance Lynn to StL on 1 year deal
Tim was a -19 in defensive runs saved above average, a -1 in baseball savant's fielding value (89th overall SS), and a -7.6 in Fangraphs runs above average per 150 games (good for 93rd of 126 ranked SS, or 18th out of 20 qualifying SS's. He was by all definitions a horrific SS last year.

Bummer to ATL
3 former first rounders still young enough to figure it out, a nice defensive piece and solid clubhouse guy in a position of need for a guy that serves no purpose on this team in 2024 or 2025 and hasn't been able to figure it out since the sticky stuff ban. I see nothing to complain about on this one.

Benetti to Tigers
Hahaha yeah he hates that, I'm pretty sure I'm blocked from texting into the Score for saying something to the effect of "and tell Larry nobody likes him."

Benetti to Tigers
I never thought anyone could be more sanctimonious and elitist than Bernstein, then he paired up with Holmes. Those two are must miss radio.

Beckham on play-by-play? Not even Jerry is that stupid, I hope.

GM Meetings Thread: MLB Rumors and Elaborate Boras Metaphors
They stuffed a 34 year AJ Pollock with about 10 innings of RF experience out there for 91 innings, I'm pretty sure the Sox think any OF can play RF, even if they've never done it before.

Benetti to Tigers
I'm somewhere in the middle on Jason. He's got great pipes, is a true pro, good for the occasional laugh and Seinfield reference, but his inability to read a fly ball and fair/foul balls was maddening to me. He needs to learn how to watch the fielders to clue him in on where the ball is going. I'm on board for a fresh voice, but Beckham or McKnight would be a downgrade for sure.

GM Meetings Thread: MLB Rumors and Elaborate Boras Metaphors
He's 2 years younger than Judge was and plays a plus CF still. He won't get the AAV that Judge did, but I venture somebody will give him 10 plus years simply because he's the best OF under 30 on the market by a mile that can actually field and hit above average.

'23 -'24 Free Agency
Feeling resigned to the fate that the org decides to trade for Salvy and sign Whit. I don't see how this squad isn't really bad for at least 3-5 years. My sense is the off-season results in a 26 man akin to this, and this is how Getz and co. will spin it. It will be a bloodbath for 5th place in the worst division in the sport. Decline TA option - Re-sign Andrus or bring in Amed Rosario as a bridge to Montgomery Trade Eloy to offset Salvy contract assuming KC doesn't pitch in for it for lower level pitching prospects or reclamation projects - Salvy splits time between C/DH/1B and Sox brass lauds how he is mentoring Lee and Quero for the next 2 years, decline the club option in '26 Sign Whit to play 2B and provide more "athleticism" Trayce Thompson offered arbitration as 4th OF and backup CF option. Adds insurance if Colas continues to suck in RF, Trayce will suck equally, but provide a better glove and be a solid veteran clubhouse/leadership/platoon guy SP - Pick up Clevinger option, will claim they tried to sign at least two of Giolito, Flaherty, Montas, Severino, will be lucky to get 1 Sheets remains and DH's vs RHP C- Salvy 1B - Vaughn 2B - Whit 3B - Yoan SS - Andrus or Rosario LF - 10D CF - Robert RF - Colas DH - Sheets/Trayce Ben: Lee/Sheets/Sosa or Remillard/Trayce SPs: Cease/Clevinger/Kopech/1 of FAs above/(revolving door of suck - Touki, Schoultens, Deivi Garcia types) RP: Bummer, Crochet, Banks, Santos, Peralta, Shaw, (2 of the revolving door of suck guys)

Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
If CPD backtracks on their 8/28 statement, Jerry needs to be investigated and ideally arrested for bribing a public official. It's clear as day the shot(s) came from inside the park, but hey, it's the Chicago way.

What's Left For Sox Fans?
The only hope I cling to is Jerry is clearing out the old guard and anybody that makes money to avoid any potential albatross on or off field personnel that may hinder a sale of the team in the next 3-5 years. During that time frame I expect nothing but pain and a redux of the "The Kids Can Play!" era.

NY Post puts Anderson tweets, grudge with Ramirez on front page
We’re seriously at this level of cope? TA lost the fight because Jose had batting gloves on? A quick product search tells me Franklin batting gloves are less than 1 mm thick.

Sox vs Guardians, Sat
ah yeah, it’s us fans that are the problem and not the clown that flicks them off and throws hands, wild take

Lucas wanted to spend his entire career with the White Sox. The White Sox weren't interested. - Rick Giolito
This I believe the rumor was they entertained talks for a short period and Lucas wanted $125-$150M and the Sox were closer to $50M so they didn't even bother discussing further.

Will AV even be better than…
I think he can still be a very good, but not elite hitter. His baseball savant numbers are interesting. Still hitting the ball hard, he historically has struggled with sliders and mashed fastballs, in 2023 he's got a 7 run value on sliders, but -3 on 4 seamers. BABIP is the lowest of his career thus far, I still have some hope he can be more consistent. If he's a .250-.270 guy with 25-30 HRs and 70-100 RBI's I'm fine with that, but it would be better if he learned to draw some walks. Those numbers aren't going to thrill the folks with the lofty expectations of the 3rd overall pick however.

Ohtani
MJ should buy the Sox out of spite now, could he be any worse an owner than JR?
-
Ohtani
The Dodgers active payroll goes from about $229M in '23 to about $110M in '24. Difficult to imagine he lands anywhere else.

Probably, either way he's brutal the 3rd time through the order

a smart org would make him an opener or multi inning reliever

Now injured: Crochet
I think MLB needs to take a serious look at the "Driveline" school and those like it and what they are doing to pitchers. They claim they work in proper mechanics, but the weighted ball training and focus on velocity and spin probably has a correlation to increased arm injuries. The flip side to that argument is modern medicine has allowed a larger swath of players to continue playing, whereas back before modern TJS if you blew out your elbow you were done for life, so only the genetic freaks were able to have long sustained careers. Now we have more talent, but more injury prone players making the bigs.

Ugh man, forgot about that rumor. Was it Madrigal and Crochet and then they wanted Vaughn and that killed the deal, or am I misremembering?

Sox v Rangers Game Thread
Yeah that seemed like a miss there. 28 years old, woulda been worth a shot. Wonder if his covid policy breaking antics with Clevinger weighed into that decision.
