3/1/24 Game Thread White Sox at Chicago N. L. 2:05PM CST; Radio: ESPN1000 & TV: (Cubs Only - Marquee),
How many others were forced to play a corner OF spot for the first time in their lives at the MLB level?

Tim Anderson signs with MIA, 1Y/5M
Marlins pitching staff in for one heck of a ride this season with those two playing next to each other.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Glad Getz held firm and didn't take it.

Nike Fanatics Jerseys
I'd actually argue my $35 circa 2006 Chinese Joe Crede jersey actually looks better than these! My favorite is going to Blackhawks games and looking at everyone's bootleg jerseys, Black Hawk should be looking straight forward, he's often gazing upwards or looking down on the knockoffs.

Sox sign Corey Knebel and Dominic Leone to Minor League deals.
Completely agree

Mlb.com Sox projected lineup and rotation is out
I moved back to IL from CA over the offseason and now no longer have a need for the MLB app to watch Sox games, but I just may need to keep it just to watch this squad. Hopefully all the Baltimore trolls don't see this, but I'm pretty jealous of them right now.

Sox sign Corey Knebel and Dominic Leone to Minor League deals.
It will be interesting if nothing else. I would hope he's allowed a payroll of at least $100M, would Jerry stoop so far as to only allow a bottom 5-8 payroll in the league? I've been told he's claiming internally that the Sox have lost $100-$150M in the past 2 years, which seems incredibly hard to believe, but it does scare me that he's set on completely tanking until after the stadium is done.

This is the bullpen construction technique we wished Rick Hahn employed. I'm cautiously optimistic with how Getz has approached this off-season. Only $40M on the books for 2025, it will be interesting to see how he constructs that team with a bit of money to toss around.

Sox looking at building in South Loop
I'm not going to get into the public money debate here, but this sentiment sure worked out well for Oakland.

Cubs get Michael Busch, Yency Almonte
Because it's the only real comp we have that makes sense since Vaughn barely played in the minors and Busch has barely played in the majors.

Cubs get Michael Busch, Yency Almonte
$25 says Vaughn out OPS's Busch next year, both have to play 100 games or more or bet is null, deal? ?

Cubs get Michael Busch, Yency Almonte
Well Busch was pitiful in his short stint in the majors. He might end up better than Vaughn, I'm just not giving anything up to get Busch at this point when I have a guy that can likely produce what he can for free and is younger and already shown he can hit above league average at the major league level. Also, the Dodgers were certainly not stacked at 2B last year where Busch has spent most of his time in the minors. If he was ready to hit he would have been on the major league team IMO.

Cubs get Michael Busch, Yency Almonte
Vaughn's college numbers blow Busch's out of the water, I know everyone here hates AV, but other than gut feel is there any evidence Busch is a better hitter? The grass ain't always greener...

Michael Busch is older than Andrew Vaughn.

2023-24 NFL Season Thread
Right, he's a politician making football decisions, same as it ever was at Halas.

Crochet preparing to be starter
This is where I'm at with the off-season. Sure, most of these guys will be terrible, but hopefully a few of the younger guys become assets (Eder, Mena, Nastrini types), and hopefully you get a couple hot starts from the others that can be traded for more controllable younger assets at the deadline. Not going to be a fun year, but will hopefully at least have some young guys to watch develop.

Will any team give Trevor Bauer a last shot?
He's the guy that exposed the rampant use of sticky stuff, especially regarding his arch nemesis Gerrit Cole. Without Bauer complaining about it so much I'm not sure it ever gets the attention it did or banned.

Cease To Padres per Passan
If they're smart they would get serious now to avoid a bidding war, however they do likely have the most ammo so I could see it going either way.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Not sure about the timing thing with Maldonado, but I don't imagine too many teams that are looking to deal for a cost controlled SP like Cease are also looking to sign one of the top UFA arms available.

Cease To Padres per Passan
FWIW after perusing many sites and forums this offseason, my sense is Dodgers fans aren't keen on giving up Lux.

Cease To Padres per Passan
$25M guaranteed, they signed him to a 2 year/$30,350,000 deal with year 1 being only $5,350,000.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Hahahahaha touche!

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Well sure, but what % of Canadians even give a crap about baseball? Just seems like an odd reason for a guy that doesn't really seem like he's motivated by attention.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
A whole country that has roughly the same population as California? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Cease To Padres per Passan
If Lin is the "top prospect" we better be getting Alek Thomas/Perdomo/McCarthy type young major leaguers as the headliners.
