Showing apartments for rent? Handy Tip #1: Don't have the place smell like cat pee. Especially when your trying to rent the place for $150/month more than the market rate for your apartment.

Who the FU*K does Carter think he is?
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) I agree. Reagan's two-tiered economic and military approach arguably had minimal effect. I just found irony of liberal criticism of Reagan's methods back in the '80s and your criticism of Nixon's detente. Nixon was a scumbag, but he was instrumental in erroding up the Soviet/China alliance and improved our relations with China at the same time. Therefore, I still say that he was strong in the field of foreign relations. I think our two-tiered approach had a huge effect. I just think that the approach had its effect on only one tier. Economics. Although I don't think it was Reagan alone that caused the Soviet Union to fall. He definitely played a huge part in it.

Who the FU*K does Carter think he is?
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Funny, liberals bashed Reagan relentlessly for starting an arms race with the Soviets to more rapidly erode their enemy. :rolly You can't have it both ways. Nixon made great strides in improving our relationship with China, which marginalized Soviet power. Like I said, he was an authoritarian scumbag. The arms race had less to do with the Soviet Union falling apart than having the rest of the developed world developing as quickly as possible and the Soviet Union unable to do the same. The politburo, in my opinon, had penis envy and sought to have the same status, the same toys, as the West and bankrupted themselves doing it. Look for example at East Germany, it wasn't the arms buildup that brought down Honnecker. It was the banana.

Report: Police Chief stops CPR on Gay Man
Yeah, you're also at risk for contracting Hepatitis and a whole host of other diseases, like Mono. Better to let someone else save this guy's life. The guy wasn't wearing a sign that said "I Have AIDS." He was having a heart attack.

Who the FU*K does Carter think he is?
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) I'm not sure about that. Gerald Ford was worthless (although not in office long enough to do much damage). Nixon was an authoritarian scumbag, yet an effective foreign policy president. Carter was an ineffective president, but I think that he did more damage to the country after he served. Actually, Nixon was not an effective foreign policy president. It was Nixon who helped create a detente with the Soviet Union that basically gave it another 15 years of life before coming crashing down around its economic weight. He also had a hand in more meddling in Latin America and his administration saw to make the deportation of John Lennon a priority.

Christopher Hitchens on Iran.
Or any other, for that matter. I think one of our failings in foreign policy over the last few decades was the ability to 'take some lumps' when the opportunity presented itself. Better to be seen as weak when it actually makes us stronger. But sometimes we let short term perception jeopardize long term gain.

Radio Ratings in NYC.
Their commercial inventory has definitely grown over the last couple years. I will say that the Air America business model is a difficult one to grow successfully. Most of their affiliates have to take the whole network, and its hard to find clear metro grade signals that have the flexibility to do something like that. AAR recently lost its Phoenix affiliate, despite strong ratings growth and good sales. The station got sold. A few other locations, they've had some difficulty. I think, on the whole, Piquant from what I've seen has been a pretty good steward of the AAR ship and has it set on a good course for success. But with broadcasting, and that business model that they started with, it would be very difficult to get to a profit without quite a bit of luck.

Christopher Hitchens on Iran.
Christopher Hitchens was the only person I ever accidentally let an S-bomb slip on the air with as a talk radio producer. The guy speaks so smoothly and quietly that I never even caught it until I heard about it the next day. He's also bat s*** crazy. Was a left wing extremist before 9/11 and shortly after jumped to the opposite end of the spectrum. Never really liked him in any case - but he raises a great idea in how to deal with Iran. Recognize them, eat a little crow, and watch the new Iranian revolution start. http://www.slate.com/id/2137560/?nav=tap3

Radio Ratings in NYC.
Look on the right of his page. Every link is to a right wing blog. The NY Post also carried the story today or yesterday. There is a possibility that ICBC has decided not to renew the long term brokerage lease with WLIB which will put Air America in a difficult spot to be sure. But its definitely too soon to tell.

ABC Anchor recovering.
Three weeks ago, there seemed some debate about whether or not the new ABC WNT anchor would have suffered severe brain damage after the vehicle he was travelling in while reporting in Iraq was hit by an IED. Here's the Good Morning America transcript brought to you by the TV Newser blog. Awesome news.

I have dealt with the French and German health care systems. I'd take my bloated bill with good treatment over six weeks in the hospital for a broken arm anyday.

Probably because the college doesn't have a football team. And the real question is: if there's so much outrage among the students - how come only 169 out of 2000+ actually voted for Homecoming King?
