Personally, I think this whole controversy is blown way out of proportion. Rush Limbaugh said a stupid thing. He says lots of them on his show. However, freedom of speech does not guarantee you a spot on ESPN NFL Countdown the last time I checked. His bosses couldn't handle the heat, and probably - although we'll never know for sure - asked him to resign to end the controversy. This controversy is what they wanted in the beginning, but I'm willing to bet that they never thought a firestorm would be this tough. This is a case of executives making a ballsy move but not following through. And, personally I just think Rush was an idiot in his comment. It wasn't racist per se, just completely wrong. I don't think anyone here is going to say Kordell is overrated by anyone, with the possible exception of John Shoop. This would be different if there were only one or two black QBs in the league, but in 2002, 11 or 12 teams had a starting or back-up black QB.

I think someone in the White House broke the law. Don't know who, don't even know if the Pres. knew about it. I think, ultimately, nothing will be done. Because the six journalists who got the leak, won't reveal who broke the law. And I'm torn. Part of me thinks they shouldn't, because it's a journalism ethics issue and reporters shouldn't reveal sources. But part of me thinks they should... because this seems a clear violation of the law, and whats the point of this leak in the first place? This whole story makes no sense to me...

I'm guessing if they get someone in who's really experienced and they really want. Like a return of LaRussa, for example... they will do what they need to to get him there, including firing more coaches. If KW wants to win that badly, and wants a manager that he thinks he can do the job that badly, he'll do what needs to be done. After all, if they are offering Colon a wheelbarrow of cash, next year won't be white flag at spring training.

That being said, its bad form for teachers to blast the Bush administration in mid-lesson. There have to be more constructive ways to use that time. The calls about what units go where is not made by the president. (Once again displaying lack of knowlege about military operations) He doesn't micromanage it like that. The order is given to the Air Force to handle the situation and an Air Force general makes the call about what units get the tasking. Maybe instead of blindly attacking Bush you should ask the general in charge of the operation why he tasked the units he tasked. Training of paramilitary death squads. Come on now. The purpose of that school is to teach counterinsurgency to our friends down south. As for as I'm concerned they can f***ing rot Nuke: I'll agree that enemy combatants , or rather PoWs should be held as long as necessary... however American citizens that are at Gitmo, and there are a handful, have to be treated differently. Further, once we know that the connections with terrorism aren't there, we should release them promptly. The justice department held some of these people for several months after conclusive proof that there was no tie to Al-Qaeda or other terror organizations by their own admission. I'm all for protecting our population, but we have to do it by respecting the rights of our own citizens.

ND football has no interest in going to a conference. They are in the BCS bids, they get all the money a conference would get when going to a bowl. They have a multimillion dollar broadcasting deal with TV and radio that is nationwide. All that disappears with joining a conference. That being said, Notre Dame needs to start winning again to insulate themselves against other conferences. Otherwise that money dries up, making a conference much more necessary.
