Yeah, sounds like he's about to sign with Toronto. -

I think it's been said that they don't participate in that market. It would have been nice to beat the Rangers on Arihara. He signed for about 11M including the posting fee. -

It would probably take one of those guys to get Gray as well, no? If so, then aim higher. -

If they're talking to the Reds I'd rather target Castillo. -

Are you sure? everything I've seen is that they're around 118-120M right now. If they're really closer to $110M and the budget is $135-140 that's huge. -
They might get one or two of those, but they're not getting all three.

They're not at 109M, they're at 119-120M. The 109M does not take into account arbitration salaries, which would be another 10M or so. Which means that if they sign Hendriks, they're pretty much done with free agents. -
Don't sleep on Terrace Marshall with the Bears 1st if they let Robinson get away.

I edited my post. I thought he was good besides that one year in Oakland but it just wasn't the case. I was talking about a guy that became a member of the Sox and just completely sucked. Also, there were a lot fewer strikeouts in 2003 vs now. -

Yeah, you're right. He had one good season with Oakland and then suck all around. -

This is bad juju. Do you want to turn Hendriks into Billy Koch? -

That means nothing. They were also "confident" right before Machado signed with the Padres. -
No arguments. It's annoying that they're just hoping the group they have is good enough and refusing to fill holes with anything other than 1 year stopgaps.
-
Pretty much.

We're still here because despite our best efforts, we just can't quit the Sox. If I could wave a magic wand and never like sports again I'd do it. I like them too much. There are so many things I'd rather do.
-
Some people want to walk around like The Sox may very well win a World Series despite their best efforts to sabotage this window but what good is flexibility if you never use it?
-
It is possible he could be a Vazquez/AJ Burnett type.
-
I wish the Sox would run their organization like that if they're going to be around 15-20th in payroll. The Rays and A's take steps back but they're great at scouting and they're not down for long. Jerry doesn't understand how important playing in the international market and allowing the FO to draft HS talent in the top 5 is, if you're going to have a strict budget.
-
I do not. I expect them to have a bottom end top 10 payroll and they're below league average. I'd feel a lot better if the Sox could get Giolito locked up past 2023 right now. Otherwise, there's a lot riding on Kopech/Crochet/Cease.
-
There are plenty of reasons to be excited about the Sox, but they're not on the level of the Dodgers and Padres at least. I'd have to see what the Yankees are doing to know if they have a chance to get out of the AL. At the current time, models like the Twins to win the division even without Cruz and Odorizzi. There's a ton of untapped potential with the Sox but they're still 2 years away from being at the height of their powers. It's not all bad, but it's not all good either. It is incredibly frustrating that they could be so much better than they are, though.
-
Yup. If Harper was patrolling RF I'd have shut up a while ago. I have a problem with wasting prospects on 1 year rentals(a very White Sox thing to do) and also the perpetual dumpster diving.
-
It could be worse. You could be a White Sox fan watching a team in the beginning stages of completely squandering a window because ownership is too chicken shit to take a risk to win a championship. At least the Cubs ownership, for all of their faults, wasn't content with 2nd place during their window. Should the Sox be trading guys like Vaughn/Kopech/Madrigal/Crochet/Kelley? No. But they should be using money to fill holes. And they don't.
