QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) Wait... after a .150 hitter has ONE good night, suddenly he leaps past a .200 hitter? A little pre-mature, no? I mean, neither of them have much to be proud of offensively, but let's have some perspective here. AB H 2B 3B HR R RBI SB CS SO BB HBP SH SF IBB GDP BA OBA SLG Anderson 129 21 2 0 5 17 15 2 1 43 16 1 1 2 0 1 .163 .257 .295 Uribe 174 34 6 1 4 15 18 0 1 32 6 2 2 2 1 4 .195 .228 .310 Uribe has a higher average, but Anderson cancels that out with a higher OBP. And despite 45 fewer at-bats, Anderson's numbers compare pretty closely to Uribe. If I'm Juan Uribe's new son right now, I don't know if I'd want to be named after my father.
-
After BA's night, I think it's fair to say that Juan Uribe is officially the worst offensive player on the team right now.

Seeing Garcia throw nothing but garbage yet again, I was wondering, why don't we put Ozuna in his spot in the rotation. He's fast and always tries hard. It would probably help our team chemistry and give us more heart in the rotation, which is why haven't been winning as much. What do you guys think?

I can't believe people are piling on Garland after last night. The fact is, he pitched pretty damn well but again was a victim of Ozzie giving him a s*** defense. How many times have Garland's blowup innings been aided by Pablo Ozuna or Rob Mackowiak flailing around like idiots in the outfield. Garland relies on defense as much as anyone on our staff, yet for reasons unknown, he continually goes out there with the Ozzie lineup. If Mackowiak wasn't in center last night, people would be praising Garland for starting to turn it around, and putting us back in first place.

Yeah, when Viz left in the Vazquez trade I thought we may end up missing him much more than most seemed to think at the time. Even though he got off to a rough start, overall he really didn't have a bad year. And when you look at the crap in our bullpen right now, and I'm looking at you Logan, Thornton, and Montero, Vizcaino looks pretty fuggin brilliant.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 10, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) Of that list, who will be above .300 in late Sept. ?? Iguchi and Crede.

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 5, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Nice post. I haven't agreed with all of Ozzie's moves this year, but I'm so sick of hearing this "Sunday Lineup" crap. Recent history has shown that the Sox need to rely on bench players every once in a while. Running the best players out there in every single game isn't an option until the playoffs. Well, since I am a critic of the Sunday lineup, I'd like to point out, again, that there is a middle ground between subbing 3 or more guys at once, and "running the best players out there in every single game". Any guesses what that might be?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 5, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) If you get there early and are willing to walk a few block to the red line, you'll find a lot of free parking. It surprises me more people don't do it. Probably because by the time the redline stops at Chinatown, there isn't any room left on the train.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) And that's what I said all along. Don't abandon it, but just be a little wiser in when he goes, etc. Against pitchers with a quick delivery and a strong throwing catcher, Pods has had no chance this year. You can still distract a pitcher without attempting a steal. Pods could go 0 for the rest of the season on the bases, but pitchers will still concentrate to hold him on base. What we can't have happen is for Pods to be picked off once or twice a week, especially when it's just due to him having too big of a lead. Yeah, that's kind of how I see it. Pods will still attract attention, even when he isn't attempting to steal almost every time he gets on. If a pitcher begins to ignore Podsednik, that's when he should take off - kind of like my boy Ross Gload's sb a few games back. That's not to say he shouldn't ever run, but he should severely reduce his attempts. Personally, I think his basepath mentality now is more out of stubborness and selfishness than it is out of a desire to help the team.
-
Personally, I'd be happy if Pods doesn't run against another non-Cleveland catcher for the rest of the year. I feel much better about Gooch, Thome, Konerko, and Dye to be able to create a big inning once Pods gets on base, than to make Iguchi waste a couple strikes every at-bat - all for Pods 50% stealing efficiency.

QUOTE(The Critic @ May 2, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) haha, that's what I told my buddy at work. They're pissed at him cuz he got out and they can't. Actually, someone from Cleveland told me that before.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Does it? Or does it give the starters the rest that they need to be 9-0 when they all start together? Stats like that are worthless, because it insuates that if you started the same 9 guys everyday that the Sox would be 26-0, and that's not true. Lots of the line up changes were due to injuries (Dye, Uribe, and Pods have missed games already), others were due to match up's such as not starting, while some were due to Ozzie wanting to give starters days off, and getting our subs into games so that they stay fresh in case they are needed in an important situation. I don't think anyone is projecting the 9-0 stat like that. And again, I'm not opposed to resting guys. Obviously, that is going to happen over the course of the season. I just don't understand why you sub 1/3 of your lineup at a time. It doesn't work.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) And again, it's 1 day. If we're undefeated with all 9 starters, a .500 team with 1 guy sitting, and a .200 team with 3 guys sitting, then over the whole season, we'd be better off playing all of our starters 2 games and resting 3 guys the third than we would be by resting 1 guy each game. Or, we could rest a maximum of two guys per day.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) And 2 of those losses were in games where we rested a lot of our regulars. Note how the well rested regulars performed in the games where they were played. See above. We all know you've got to rest guys. But when it's 3 starters at a time, Ozzie is severely hampering our ability to win that day.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ May 2, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) ozuna could steal 4 bases if he gets on base also. Too bad he's even worse in left.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 2, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) Ozuna, LF Iguchi, 2B PK, 1B Dye, RF Crede, 3B Cintron, DH Uribe, SS Widger, C BA, CF Buehrle, SP If there were ever a game where Ross Gload deserved to be in there...

QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ May 1, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) Well since season tickets are sold out and there is a waiting list, either you wait or get them from stubhub. 2006 is...that doesn't mean you jump right to stubhub for 2007. I'd be surprised if all those first time season ticket holders renew.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 1, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I thought it was The Angels Angels of Anaheim. Rex Kickass, you are correct sir!

QUOTE(Timoperezrulez @ May 1, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) does anybody know what the lowest possible price would be for 2007 Sox season tickets for a guy in his 20's looking to buy the cheapest season tickets available?Would stubhub be a cheaper way? You want to buy season tickets from stubhub?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) His swing is not the problem. Its his footwork in the box when he starts his swing. Last year they had him fixed. Uribe has a propensity to fly open. His front leg will step in the bucket towards third, his body commits before the ball is in the hitting zone, and at that point he has a hard time centering up the ball on the outerhalf. It makes him spin out. Last year they had him using a leg kick timing mechanism to fix him. The timing wasnt the issue, its the fact that when he started using this he strides towards the pitchers plate and keeps closed off. This allows him to keep level through the hitting zone and hit with power. For whatever reason so far this year, he has stopped using that same leg kick. In the weekened series, his front leg was stepping towards third and he was opening up completely before the ball went through the zone. On the game last weekend he kept closed off and drove through the zone. Hopefully they are working with him, and he remembers something that made him a dangerous hitter in the back of the lineup. Good description. Thanks.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 1, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) If he's hitting .200 in July and his defense is weaker than it is now (took him a long time to get that first error didn't it?) then we'll talk. Otherwise, someone just needs to tell Greg Walker to get his arse in gear. Anyone know why Uribe has abandoned that timing mechanism he had, lifting his left leg slowly as the pitcher began his windup, that seemed to work so well for him at the end of last year and the playoffs?

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ May 1, 2006 -> 08:43 AM) I mean, c'mon...what do you expect from a team whose name is the equivalent of naming your son Thomas Thomas? And now, introducing your 2006 "The Angels Angels!!!" Pssshhh. Actually, it's your 2006 "The Angels of Anaheim Angels!!!"

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) Well the scariest part about this is to be honest is, unlike last April, I don't think we are clicking and playing our best ball yet. However with the encouraging signs from Pods, Politte, Thornton, Cotts, and even Anderson....we're getting close. I've got to disagree here. Last April, our pitching staff played out of their minds, but our offense was horrid. Almost everyone, save Iguchi, got off to extremely slow starts. We got to 17 wins by eeking out a number of 1 run games, which means we really were lucky to put that record up. While it's nice to believe that we can significantly improve upon our 16-3 run once we are 'clicking', that's not going to happen. We aren't likely to play .700 ball another month this season. But there's nothing wrong with that. With the division as competitive as it is this year, 95 wins should seal the division, and the April we had puts us well on our way to reaching that goal.
