QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) I don't know why people are hoping for a new manager. We are going to be bad again next year too. I can't imagine we'd be this bad, but I wouldn't be shocked if we never made it over .500 next season. That being said, who cares who is at the helm? Doesn't Robin have a year left anyway? Just let him continue to sink w/ the ship, and get a new manager when we are ready to win again. I don't want to bring in a new manager for a bad team and then see people b**** about how bad the manager is, when it's likely just the product on the field. Well if what bucket said about Rick and company not simply punting on the season is true then the Sox think differently. I'm indifferent on bringing in a new coach though, I agree with the last bit of your post, it's the product on the field....Nothing a coach can do. I know it sounds ridiculous but I agree with Hawk when he said a manager doesn't matter.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) We had a chance to hire Francona. Inexcusable omission. He'd have owned Chicago. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) Good point, but I don't want him. It's time for a mean bastard like Piniella or LaRussa. These 2 posts don't really coincide with each other....Francona is considered one of the nicer coaches in the league.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:26 PM) Now that we blew it not taking Francona, I don't know who I'd want to replace Robin. You may all get mad, but assuming Ozzie and LaRussa are out of the question, I'd take Piniella No. 1; Gene Lamont No. 2 just for old time's sake. Seriously, if I were Jerry, I'd beg LaRussa to end his career on the South Side. Maybe do something creative and have a manager in waiting to help LaRussa and have him cut his hours down. The manager in waiting could do the computer printouts, etc., and just have them waiting for Tony when he arrives at 4 p.m. for a 7:10 p.m. game instead of noon. LARUSSA is our savior, folks. 1. Francona said he was taking a year off. 2. I really doubt Lou or Larussa come out of retirement, if Tony wanted to keep coaching he'd still be in St Louis. 3. Lamont, meh. I'd rather have a coach who will be around for more than just a few years. 4. Guys I'd be interested in are Sandy Alomar, Dave Martinez, and for whatever reason, Eduardo Perez.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) Jesus, this is the saddest sad to ever sad. Powell and Moss are probably your best options out of that bunch I concur, looking back at my draft, I drafted Andre bleepin Brown in the 8th and was banking on him to be my Flex2. For what it's worth there wasn't a single starting RB left....With David Wilson in the doghouse Brown would have looked good right about now had he not gotten injured. Once Gordon and Bell get back my options will look a lot more attractive. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) Well, Jay is at least an on base threat. I'm not saying we should/could get him, but we do need to prioritize OBP guys. Jay is having a down year, and he's still at .343. Indeed, but I didn't know he was bad defensively(wite isn't the only one saying this) so that kinda throws a wrench into my desire for him. Using UZR Jay is actually a worse CFer than ADA, -3.7 vs -7.2. Only CFer (I put the minimum at 800 innings) worse is Choo at a horrendous -15.6. Jay does offer the ability to get on base but I get the feeling the White Sox will wanna put an emphasis on defense so I'm not sure he fits. When looking at all these UZR stats, 2 guys stick out as players I'd like the Sox to try and acquire. Gerrado Parra and Colby Rasmus. They both are in the top 10 in UZR amongst players who have played CF at least 500 innings, both left handed, and both have a good bat to go with their gloves. With Melky/Gose/Bautista in Toronto and Eaton/Pollock/Ross in AZ both may be available for the right deal.

So much for Le'veon Bell coming back week 3....Said to be about a month a away....Still don't regret dumping Redman even though he's really all the have left. This leaves my Flex2 options between Eifert, Marlon Brown, and either Sudfeld or whoever I drop for Sudfeld. I've got a waiver claim out on Gresham and Alshon who for whatever reason were both dropped after decent games. Other intriguing names on the FA market include- Bilal Powell/Santana Moss/Dwayne Allen/Kenny Stills/Doug Baldwin/Brandon Gibson. Oh and of course Redman who I just released for Pryor. If I miss out on Gresham/Jeffery who should I go with? My guys Eifert or Brown? One of the FAs? Sudfeld=/? -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) Yes. He should probably start over those two I'm still not so sure Cutler and/or Dalton won't be good options....In case I'm wrong though I have room to pick up Pryor. Further more Rivers is also available so now the question is who do I put at higher priority, Rivers or Pryor? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) Craig will likely move to the outfield next year with Beltran moving on. Where does that put Taveras and Jay? Alexei for Jay+? Jay in CF and leading off with ADA in LF batting 6th or 7th (like a poster said today) doesn't sound too shabby to me. Try and trade Tank for something useful.

Just venting a bit...I absolutely hate that outsourcing is thing. I always hear politicians talking about how they're going to create more jobs, well here's a thought...ELIMINATE outsourcing! My moms been with the same company for 18 years, 2 years away from retirement and collecting social security but now her job is being outsourced to India. I now have to put my big boy pants on and help out the family...There goes trying to move out...ugh whatever.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) Was McGwire/Sosa/Bonds less impressive because they were juicing? Steroids or ball juicing, that is a lot of f***ing home runs and somehow nobody else is doing the same thing as him After the fact? Yes it was far less impressive. I don't know what other guys are doing over there but the article I posted said there's been a 40% increase on home runs from last year so the whole league has benefited. He's just the leader of the pack.

Terrel Pryor gonna be worth a roster spot? Remember I'm rockin the "awful" Cutler/Dalton tandem at QB. Thinking I might add Pryor (Dropping Redman with Bell already on my roster) and let it play out till I'm forced to make a move. Neither Cutler nor Dalton gave me any reason to cut either for Pryor. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) He's slugging like .850 over 135 games or something. 60 games isn't the difference on that. He still has incredible bat speed and, apparently, good bat coverage. He's probably not much more than a .230-.250 hitter, and there's still questions about his plate discipline, but he could definitely be a 30-40 homer threat I'm merely unimpressed with him potentially beating the home run record. Had there not been a "juicing" period he probably isn't approaching that feet. I wish they had game logs to see how many of those HRs were hit during the 60 game period.

And with that catch from Johnson I lost to Chili....I had his/your "I'm killin it" post in my back pocket waiting to brag after McCoys big game...With the R. White injury though I had no shot. HA! right as im typing they say it was incomplete....No chance he doesn't get >4 yards the rest of the game though. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) It has more to do with peripherals and park factors than that. Leeman and Axelrod and whoever still count amongst the White Sox pitching WAR. Fangraphs looks at a pitcher's performance individually rather than as runs allowed. Basically, they see that the White Sox defense has been worse than the Cubs defense this season and they have still only allowed 10 fewer runs while they play against better offenses in a tougher pitcher's park, thus, their pitching staff should be better. You are comparing a fat, injury prone catcher to a catcher who has, historically, been one of the healthiest and most durable to have ever played the game, and that he hasn't broken down yet is a testament to him. Full-time catchers typically begin breaking down around 32-34. So, unless you have looked at his medical history and know all those numbers, you are making that suggestion based on gut feeling, which, good for you, but it's not good enough for me. Instead, if you sign McCann to a 5 year deal, you're expectations are basically C/1B the first 2 seasons and 1B/DH the next 3. Gotcha on the first portion, like I said I won't pretend to know how it works but your explanation makes sense. As for the bold, with Dunn perhaps leaving after next year I'm fine with making McCann the DH. I know it leaves a hole once again at catcher, perhaps Phegley further develops and becomes competent there in 2015, but putting McCann at DH could keep him healthy and productive for the duration of his contract. His .819 OPS would be in the top 5 amongst DHs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) The White Sox pitching staff is 5th in MLB with 17.4 WAR on the season. The Cubs pitching staff is 23rd in MLB with 9.3 WAR on the season. There is only 1 team in the bottom 15 in MLB in pitching WAR currently in the playoffs (Baltimore). That means 9 of the top 15 teams in pitching WAR are likely in the playoffs this year and a number of others are just on the outside. I won't pretend to know how WAR works and I hate to defend the Cubs but that stat is pretty surprising to me considering the Cubs have actually given up 10 less runs than the Sox....I know a lot of that has to do with guys like Axelrod, Troncoso, and Omogrosso who could easily be replaced by guys like Leesman, Petrika, and Webb or a free agent or 2. Still though that doesn't change the fact. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) I mean spending a ton of money on 28 and 30 year old free agents would be a poor investment because they'll likely command 5-6 year contracts and you will valuable production for only 3 of those seasons. Abreu is fine, and if they spend big on him, I don't mind. Spending $20-25 mill a year on Robinson Cano is not the best use of assets. I tend to agree on Cano, only because the length he'll command will be more than a guy like McCann. A guy like McCann probably gets a 4-5 year contract and I'm not sold he'll break down at 33-35...AJ is still going strong at 36 and both he and McCann broke in at age 21. Even just adding Abreu(if he turns into what we all want him to be) and hopefully getting another impact piece in a trade will put us close to contending with this staff
-
I don't think it hurts to have a different set of eyes try to "fix" him. He's shown the ability to take a walk in the minors so he's got that going for him, and IIRC he's a solid CF. If someone down in Arizona can tweak him a bit to improve his hit tool he very well could pan out.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) This is not White Sox related, but why do you assume the Cubs are 3-5 years away and the Sox are not? I think the Sox spending big to try and be competitive right away again is a bad idea. How do you figure? Or by "big" do you mean signing a guy like Cano or to a lesser extent Ellsbury? Adding 2 pieces like Abreu and McCann then trying to swing a deal for a 3rd offensive piece and the Sox very well could be competitive. To your first sentence, I think it's all about whether the Sox wanna spend money before they do and/or all their kids start making an impact in the bigs. With the junk we have hitting wise in the minors right now the Sox are further away if they don't wanna open the check book IMO.
-
I'm certainly not against it but I'd rather get multiple good pieces vs 1 great piece.

Always representing the local scene on here, not sure if I've thrown the Free AJents at you folks but here's there new song that I think is all sorts of dope. I worked at that car wash in the background, so add that to the 2 rap videos I've been in lol

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) True, but I also have Andre Johnson going tomorrow too. Either way, that's the downside of H2H play vs. points, sucks, but it tends to keep you in the competition longer. I also have McCoy going tomorrow. Way I see it if White was healthy both he and Matt Ryan could have gotten me ~15 more points(combined) and then I'd just have to get 5.6 more points in the McCoy vs Johnson battle which is completely possible....Oh well though, I'll take the loss, nothing I can do about injuries or the Packers s***ty secondary lol -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) Oh man, just checked my Soxtalk fantasy team. I'm killing it right now. Only person who has more than my 140 pts is the guy who had Peyton Manning and D. Thomas in that Denver game. On that team I got Kaepernick, Adrian Peterson, Jason Witten, Reggie Wayne, and even Greg Zuerlein who led all kickers in pts so far. That's me you're facing....If Roddy White was healthy the story might be different....I should get ~130pts which should give me the most amongst the losers and would have beaten most of the league.. -

My awful team that was discussed here managed to get by despite getting a grand total of 1.6 points between my WR2 James Jones(0) and flex2 Isaac Redmond(1.6)...Ironically I made the right choice between Redmond vs Sudfeld(0) though....Can't wait to see Josh Gordon and Le'Veon Bell make their debuts. I didn't really get an answer to my "awful" QB situation though. Both Jay and Dalton looked good today. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) The refs screwed up a call early in the game. The Niners probably have won anyhow. Yup, if they had lost by 4 it would have been a big deal. With a 6 point loss it wouldn't have made a difference....Really don't see the game being played differently if they would have got the FG vs the TD, SF still would have taken the lead. Loved seeing how quick Jay got rid of the ball today, and was overall successful doing so. Forte wasn't as big a part of the O as I imagined he will be in the future so it's a plus that they got the job done without that element of the game. -
