QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) 2011 by itself was fine. Nobody thought the bulls would get that far and they lost to a better team. The problem is they had the audacity to think that flipping bogans for a washed up Hamilton would be the difference this year. You mean like the Mavs did getting Peja and Marion who both scored less points that Rip did the previous year....Worked out for them
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) You cant change the question. The statement was that the Bulls acquired players of similar caliber as Tyson Chandler, thats just patently untrue. It wasnt about money or availability, it was that the Bulls got someone as good as Chandler. Thats a bulslhit nonsense statement, whoever said it needs to own it. The only comparison I made in that comment was about Peja and Marion was like what the Bulls did with Rip. I didnt say anything about them getting a player as good as him because we have Noah and dont need him. You read it wrong sir.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) Who did the Bulls acquire that are on the same planet as Chandler? Didn't need one, they had Jo and Asik....What was out there this year that would be a huge upgrade over Naz thats not getting some ridiculous contract (Asik) QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) When did I take a dump on Tyson Chandler? You are assuming a lot in this, but thats fine. Malcolm Thomas y'all Mighta been J4L who brought up the Chandler/Curry thing, my bad.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) Doesn't matter. How many lotto picks did the Bulls have in the early 2000's and botched each one? Yes, Durant was easy. Wesbrook and Harden, not to mention Ibaka where they got him, that was skill. And talk to the Spurs about needing top 5 picks to be competitive. Because their biggest piece Tim Duncan wasn't the top pick in the draft....ok. The mavs have been right there in a much better conference for a decade now. Tyson Chandler? Jason Terry? Even Jason Kidd at the time? Those were impact moves that eventually led to a title. Those guys are in the same category as Rip would have been had he stayed healthy. I know. Just like we couldn't blame them in 2000. Zzzzzz. May be a boring excuse but its a fact. Duncan re-signed with San Antonio, Hill accommodated his wife’s desires to go to Orlando and McGrady and Jones both opted to play near their home towns. Those were the big pieces they went after in 00. What can ya do? gmab. Jalen Rose was nowhere near a superstar player. Even on the worst teams, somebody has to score. Never said he was a superstar but getting a 20ppg player isnt something to s*** on
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) O RLY? Within the 2009-2010 season and through the 2010 free agency they added Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd, Corey Brewer, Peja Stojakovic and brought in Shawn Marion. The same Tyson Chandler you've already taken a dump on, past their prime players like Peja and Marion who are similar to what the Bulls tried to do with Rip, Corey Brewer who scored a grand total of 5 points per game for them, and a washed up J Kidd who yes can still pass the ball....All sound like players you'd poo on if the Bulls got them before you even saw them play here.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 12:58 PM) Actually, yeah. That's a legitimate piece that you could put next to your superstar for years if you choose. Like Kyle has said over and over (and I can't believe the 180 he's done but I love it), we're going on 15 years now of empty promises and excuses. After the dynasty was stupidly broken up, the plan was to have all this cap space and sign free agents. Instead we get Ron Mercer. fail. Then the plan was to wait for Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry to become KG and Shaq. More fail. Then we trade Artest and Miller for Jalen Rose and I can't remember what else. I remember people saying that he (Rose) was a borderline superstar, or at the very least an all-star, player you could build around. Super fail there. Then we get Hinrich/Deng/Gordon rammed up our asses (WITH BEN WALLACE BEING THE FINAL PIECE TO THE PUZZLE!). More fail. KG? Kobe? Gasol? Fail, fail and fail. In '08, basketball jesus finally said, "you know what, Bulls fans have suffered enough. Let's get them a superstar somehow, someway." Enter Derrick Rose. What have we surrounded him with at the off-guard the last couple years? Keith Bogans and Rip Hamilton. What is this? 1994 when you could get away with scrubs like Kenny Smith and John Starks at the 2? Is this 1995 where Jeff Hornacek was considered somewhat athletic? This franchise has to get with the times. The Lakers are the Lakers. Boston had a plan back in '07 and executed it to perfection. Mark Cuban makes s*** happen. Miami is going to be in the way for the next 5 years. OKC didn't just draft Durant and stop there. f***ing do something! And no, waiting for Rose to get back to 100% is not enough. You're right, they stayed garbage and got Westbrook and Harden in the draft...what else have they done? Same sort of thing the Bulls we're doing with Curry and Chandler, just didn't work out that way. What has Mark Cuban done? Yes he won a championship but he didn't make any huge moves to do so...like the Bulls have done. Bulls had the same plan as Miami did, it just didn't happen, cant blame the FO for that. Jalen Rose was coming off 3 straight 18+ ppg seasons and proceeded to put up career highs with the Bulls. (23 ppg his first 30 games, then 22 the following full season)

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) It is disappointing that you have such low expectations What was I supposed to expect with this turrable crop of FAs?? Mayo would have been the only clear upgrade over Bellinelli, and I'm not sure he'd fit in with Thibs. RZZZA stop it with the Harden talk, he's a really good player and exactly the guy this team needs. Don't think you'll find another person on here to agree with you
-
Because we didnt get OJ Mayo? Or because the washed up PG we got isn't a future HoFer? There wasn't much else out there.
-
It had to happen at some point, not sure if I'd go as far as saying Silva would destroy GSP but I do think he'd pick up the W....then proceed to face Bones I hope.
-
Here comes the other homer to stir the pot further...I'm lost at what you guys wanted the Bulls to do this offseason. What past getting Mayo could they have done to excite you? Mayo doesn't seem like he'd fit the system, the guy got benched for missing to many practices. That doesn't seem like the type of guy Thibs would want on this team. Who else was there you guys wanted?? Courtney Lee and his 3% better shooting than Bellinelli? Their stats past that are about as close to exactly the same as you can get. Bell played .4 less mpg and scored .4 more ppg, .1 less rpg, and exactly the same amount of assists. But because he shot .417 compared to .433 and .377 to .401 from 3 Bellinelli is grade F horses***??? Did you want them to break apart the core?? Unless they got a superstar back I dont see the point in doing that this offseason with such a weak FA class. I'd rather they wait till next year when there should be some stud SGs out there on the market.

YOUR FIRST PLACE CHICAGO WHITE SOX
2nd_city_saint787 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:23 AM) If someone said back in March, that this team would be in 1st and 2.5 games ahead of DET, and in a good WC position, on August 1st... what kind of responses would they have gotten? THIS IS REAL! Alright that wasnt in march but I wouldnt have been surprised. I knew Dunn and Rios wouldnt be historically bad again and were due for a big turnaround and thought that was the key to them being a contender...and luckily I was right -
I wouldnt mind it just because I'm in talks about trading my xbox for a signed pods sox jersey. Maybe if he's back on the sox it'll boost the value a lil bit.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) I'll do this. But you have to drink (i.e. get drunk) and allow me to record it with my phone. Drunk greg? Oh yes. That's viral stuff right there. I would sell blood to see that.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
2nd_city_saint787 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:52 PM) Whenever I open a thread, I see tons of names of people that are in the thread online who never post. ... How can anybody read posts and not get the urge to post? You would think everybody who reads posts would want to vent their own opinions in the age of Twitter. I personally got tired of my optimism constantly being shut down when I saw a good ball club. Now that everyone sees more of what I saw everything I wanna say has already been said. I can't not read these boards though, they supply this jobless fellow hours of entertainment. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) I'm assuming you mean the Horseshoe up by you (Hammond) and not the one by me at the other end of the state. I haven't been there, but I would expect that a $100 weekday tournament in Hammond gets anywhere between 50-100 players. If this is your first time in a casino poker room, one bit of advice: never bluff, people in low buy-in ($100 or less) tournaments don't fold. They call thinking their top pair with a terrible kicker is good even with flush and straight possibilities on the board. yea here in Hammond. I don't even bluff on pokerstars so i should be good in that regard, I always play super tight until I win a big hand then I may play a little more loose depending on what I have.

Any La Dispute fans here?? Went on a bike ride today and listened to 2 of their albums, truly a phenomenal band if you can get down on some screamo-ish type music. Even their first album where it was like straight poetry was highly enjoyable. I recommend them to everyone here, they're not like all the other post hardcore/screamo bands out there. Lyrically theyre just unbelievable, it's truly poetry spiced up to the max. Check out the whole "Somewhere at the bottom of the river between vega and altair" album...hands down my favorite album of all time.

Has anyone ever competed in the tourneys at horseshoe during the week? Whats the turnout for a noon tournament on a turesday/thursday? cant be all that big right? I made $100 in an at home tourney and wanna take that to horseshoe to see if my luck continues.

I'm with soxfan1 those types of posts where you people expect the worst are sooooooo annoying and are why I dont really post in game threads anymore...

I'd venture to believe that only one of those 3 guys (Hinrich) would actually be getting playing time barring injury or rip being traded. How many players can the Bulls carry on the team?? isn't it only 12 active and 15 all together?? So we'd be looking at (with a TMac signing) Hinrich/Robinson/Teague Rip/Bell/TMac Deng/Butler/ Boozer/Taj/Vlad Noah/Naz I wouldn't mind another legit big added to the team. With the Prizzy rumors the Bulls may think the same thing. Okur would be a nice guy to stretch the floor but he's a turrable defender . Birdman would be an entertaining option.
-
Harden played 31 mpg, thats what 4 min away from starters minutes?? Of the guys you mentioned only Joe Johnson scored more ppg than Harden by 2 points....I'd venture to believe if you give Harden the 4 more mpg that JJ got that he'd be able to score that extra 2ppg and then some. Harden was 27th in scoring, and of the top 30 scorers he ranked 7th in fg%, only 2 of those guys ahead of him are non bigs....Lebron .531 Durant .496 Harden .491...And he also had the best 3P% of anyone in the top 30.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 10:41 PM) In 2011, Arron Afflalo's TS% was 62% and his 3P% was 42% amd his FG% was nearly 50%. But you know, Arron Afflalo is not taking over any games, and neither is Harden. These are guys you want to get if you happen to think Derrick Rose should still be the focal point of our offense, they aren't guys you get if you think Derrick should ease back and get a break once in awhile. They're guys who benefit off the drive and kick, just like every other player we have now. They aren't guys you toss the ball to and say "Here, create. Carry the offense." Don't get me wrong, we'd definitely be better with Harden or Afflalo playing the 2 if money somehow wasn't an issue and we could just plug them in. But they aren't guys who have ever shown themselves capable of carrying a team. I just think we need that other guy. Why in the world would he not be when he's healthy again? That may not be this year but next year he'll be 100%. Past the 5'11 Ty Lawson who would you want rzzza? Don't think youve answered that yet.
-
I've never heard of usage rate in my life. I keep it old school, I look at min, points, and field goal percentage and I usually compare those to guys on the bulls....I don't look too deep into the other mumbo jumbo. That said, James Harden is a beast. Harden, like OJ Mayo whom everyone wanted, comes off the bench to offer the team a scoring option off the bench. I know you can mix and match who's out there but could you imagine how bad the Thunders 2nd unit would be if Harden wasn't comin off the bench? Normally I can get behind your arguments RZZZA, because your a homer like myself, but this one I just can't. Stop it. Hardens FG% was nearly 50% and his 3p% was nearly 40% in 8 less mpg than Deng (our 2nd option) he scored more points, more assists, and shot better from everywhere on the court. How one would not love to have Harden on this Bulls team is beyond me.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 07:19 AM) Are people actually excited about Nate Robinson? Sometimes it's hard to reads tone on the boards. And great atheletes don't mean they are great basketball players. Eddie Robinson was a great athlete but a crap bball player. There is a laundry list of guys like that. I'm not so much excited as I am content with the signing. The guy still outproduced CJ (yes I know CJ was hurt, but the bulls got by with a hurt CJ) last year in the same amount of playing time. That said I cant see how one would be disappointed in the signing, esp if the plan is to make him the 5th guard on the team (I kinda think he wont be and they'll work Teague in like they did Butler)
-
Watson and Robinson both played 23 min per game, Nate averaged more points and shot 5% better...At the very least its a push. Robinson will bring a ton of energy as well. Robinson-Bellinelli-Butler-Taj-Naz could be a fun 2nd unit to watch.

I'm a huge supporter of local music so I don't know why I haven't spread the word here about a couple local bands that I'm a huge fan of. Has anyone here had the pleasure of hearing the angelic voice of Dana Lynn Wold and any of her million bands (I say grey, Lynxwail, Dana Lynn and the dirty creeps). She used to date a good friend of mine and I absolutely love her voice, I'd go as far as saying she's my favorite female vocalist of all time. She's a local product of Highland, IN but I know more recently she's been playing more and more shows out in the City. Here's a link to my favorite song she does it's a cover of get your gun. Ffrom there you can check out more of her stuff. Another local punk band that I like to spread the word about are the Wanderers. I use to party with these guys when a friend of mine dated the bassist. Theyre an awesome, fun band that at a time were one of my favorites. I believe they're on a temporary break but when they come back you better believe I'll be out to one of their shows where they bring great energy. http://www.myspace.com/thewanderers
