QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) Melky is useless right now. No power; not enough RBI potential. Duke is done (I think that's pretty apparent; maybe a specialist who can come in and get one lefty out). Petricka is worse than Duke. Alexei is one of the reason this team reeked and was out of contention for .500 so soon in the season. FYI. Melky is hitting .325/.377/.483 with runners in scoring position. The power isn't there, no, but having a guy hitting like that w/RISP is exactly what the team needs more of.

Yeah, I'm still here. Trying not to stress over it so I've sorta blocked the thread out of mind. At this point we are just gonna wait on the tax sale and see what happens from there. Way I see it they are going to get their 10k out if the tax sale the we either A. Decide to take the surplus and move somewhere else or B. We have to come up with the 10k to pay to the buyer of the property.....It really sucks losing this house but option A sounds more plausible. Whatever way it shakes out we are still here for a year. Thanks for all of your concerns.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Mills and ola both cut. Bears sign Patrick omameh who started all 16 games for the bucs at RG last year. There's no way Long isn't playing RT this year. And probably LT next year. IIRC Mills graded out horribly by PFF Bushrod did too. I believe both Mills and Bushrod ranked in the bottom 5 in pressures given up the past 2 years. But yeah, I would be surprised if Long isn't at one of the tackle positions. -
And that's a White Sox Winner !

Mason Foster gone. That is fairly shocking. I guess with the emergence of Timu and Anderson they would rather see more of those guys. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) in a heart beat. that would be my #1 free agent. but not if the sox pick is not protected. but i would need to be convince why i am wrong. Price was traded so there is no comp pick tagged to him

Super random pipe dreamish.... I read that David Price is Fulmers mentor. If we can get an offensive haul for Q, would you consider bringing in Price? I wouldn't do it without the said Q hual, with it though? Thoughts? Sale-Price-Rodon-Fulmer with an offensive rehaul from a Q trade could be sexy.

I am certainly interested in Nix, but looking at a projected 53 man roster....Who do you cut? Right now there are 7 guys you can make an argument should be on this team. Goldman, Ego, Sutton, Ratliff, and Jenkins are locks. Then the case can be made for Terry Williams and Corneleus Washington as well. You could probably say Nix is the better prospect than Williams and Washington may not be a fit(still kinda surprised he is on the DL vs OLB)...But then the whole "Availability is the best ability" argument comes in. Do you go 8 deep for a 3 front? Cut Washington or Williams? The thought of him panning out and being paired with Goldman (who I think could play outside) is very appealing though. -

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) Yeah, I was wondering if some names have leaked yet. Most of them will be guys where you're just like "who?", but there always seem to be a few where you're like "hmmm". Darnell Docket is out there. I have a feeling the Bears would rather use this season to analyze guys like Ego and Sutton vs going out and grabbing Docket. Of course at one point they did have Ray McDonald so perhaps I'm wrong. -

Why is no one talking about game 4 of the preseason????!!! This guy had to relax and drink some beers. Maybe that is why everything looked so rosey but man....This Timu fellow looks like a guy. Would not shock me if this time nextbyear we have 2 UDFAs at ILB. Now I wouldnt bet my house on that but yeah, dude looks solid. Anderson as well. Swamp monster looks like he might be a guy too. -
The lady we have talked to at the Lake County Treasury. I will talk with an attorney.
-
I talked to a lady and she says there is nothing we can do to change where we're at. Was certainly worth a shot but yeah. There is apparently nothing we can do at this point in regards to fixing old mistakes. The deadline was apparently noon as well. So the time has come and gone. Now we wait the 10-14 days to see how much it went on auction. Maybe an attorney will say differently.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) Provide proof as to why and how you weren't renting from your uncle and that none of the payments, etc, were tied. Do you think they would be able to cut it or do something retroactive?
-
For redeeming a house....if I have a year....do we stay in the home for a year??? That seems somewhat s***ty for someone to buy it at auction, move in, and not know if in a year they'll have the house. Sure they'll get the money back (and then some?) but still....
-
Ok, so here is the latest update. Yes, it was at 2%. My uncle and Moms name were both on the title. My uncle has another house so they took it as my mom was renting from him, in which case that is considered 2% to the landlord (my uncle). We obviously didn't look at it that way. So that blows. Once word came out about the possibility, we finally just took his name off. Had this been done since the beginning, we would have saved a ton of money and possibly wouldn't be in this situation. It WILL be put up for auction. We have a year to redeem it after the sale. How that works I'm unsure. I'm not sure if it's too late to do some sort of retro action.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) Per year property tax is 2100? Excuse me, 1900, and yes. That is without penalties. 950 in May and 950 in November.
-
QUOTE (RegionSox @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) The state of Indiana passed an amendment awhile back where property tax is capped at 1%. Property taxes are a bit odd in northern lake county because the Mills and BP used to pay quite a bit in tax and homeowners paid just a little. Then in the early 2000s, they changed the rate on industry and the homeowners taxes shot way up. I've heard of people going from owing a couple hundred one year to about 1200 the next year. The cap came in to fix this. Ours is/was at 2100. I'm not sure if that is with penalties or what.
-
Fees and penalties are what killed us. For the past year so we have been paying what we could but we just couldn't get out of the deficit so the fees continued to pile up. I'm hoping when call back they allow me to talk on behalf of my mother. She just always takes things for what they are and doesn't negotiate. She's VERY religious.
-
We are waiting to get a call back from the treasury. From all I've heard it is unlikely we get an extension but that is certainly the hope right now. I grew up with The Reeders of Reeder Realities and they have given me some info. They are trying to look around to find someone who would be willing to do a quick loan with my house as collateral. It does sound like we can doing something along the lines of what Badger but there's nothing we can do until it goes up for auction. I can type out a story but to be quite honest. The deadline is in less than 8 hours and I have little hope. I'm hoping because it took so long for the reverse mortgage they show some mercy and give us more time to settle. If my friend at Reeder reality is correct there will be some time before we have to leave the house so at least there's that. I guess he is also a politician these days and he said if someone shows up telling us we gotta go right the moment I can just call him and talk things through. I know this post is jumping all over the place but yeah, a lot on my plate right now.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) Can you do what Badger suggested? Best wishes. I am unsure at this point. I will find out more tomorrow and hope that it isn't too late. Went ahead and made a gofundme. I know none of you know me but like Rock said, I guess you never know... Save my house.... Any suggestions on helping market it? Maybe its just the fact that I've always been poor, but 10k just sounds insurmountable in the time given. I'm exhausted and can pass out any minute now so if I don't get back to you, I apologize. I wanna thank everyone who has replied to this. Took a lot for me to do it, and I'm glad this board is filled with such great people. Again thank you.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 11:37 PM) Did you try a gofundme or fund raising of some sort? Sans literally tweeting at Jared Allen and Kyle Long for long shot reasons, no. That really sounds ridiculous but whatever. I just don't know if 10k is feasible in such a short period of time. Or how to go about promoting it. Again this is where the lengthy period of time it took to hear back on the reverse mortgage really sucks. They came 2 weeks ago. I dont know what goes into that, but that feels like an awful long time for an appraiser to loom at photos of the house and put a number on it.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) It does matter here is what I can find: https://www.lakecountyin.org/portal/media-t...ge/default.psml 1) Have you received certified letters? If not, maybe there is some avenue for an emergency motion to stay the proceeding. 2) Even if it is the worst case scenario the new person would still likely have to evict you. I dont practice law in Indiana so I dont know the exact rules. If I was in your situation, I would go to the tax sale. If the taxes are purchased I would contact the purchaser. I would see if I could work out some sort of deal to buy the property. Using all of your facts the taxes are approximately $10k, the house is worth $25k. The new purchaser could basically make $15k if he was to enter into a deal where you buy back the house at $25k payable over time. Also it sounds like the property needs significant repairs, so they wouldnt have to invest anything and possibly could net a nice profit. For your family it basically sucks, you lose a lot of money but you get to stay in the house and if you can figure out a way to pay $25k over even 10 years, you live to fight another day. Sometimes there is no magic trick, but its always about money. First and foremost, thank you. This is something I will have to discuss with my mother. I've tried to get as much info about it from her as possible but I am not aware of everything. I will do what I have to to fight for this house. It has tremendous sentimental value to me and I was hoping to keep in the family for a very long time. Seeing as the 10 thousand is due tomorrow ( the fact that the reverse mortgage took so long really irks me) one would have to think we have been given certified letters. Rabbit, thank you for your kind words. I would like to think that I'm a smart fellow. The one thing I didn't know was my moms struggle. I had been out of work for awhile but even when I was working previously, and now, she hasn't asked for a dime sans helping with groceries. I feel like absolute s*** right now that she allowed me to be a borderline free loader even when I had money to help. Wish I was smart enough to realize that before it was too late.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) If you havent been paying your taxes you then each year they should have been sold at a tax sale. If they were sold 3 straight years then the person who bought the taxes can get the property through a tax sale. Even if they do this theyd still have to evict. http://www.cookcountyclerk.com/aboutus/Doc...n_eBrochure.pdf Have you gotten an estimate of redemption? Have you contacted any friends, acquaintances, relatives who could potentially pay off the taxes and then put a lien on the property? Based on what youve said im just not 100% sure at what part of the process you are at. For what it's worth I am in Lake County(IN). I'm not sure if there's a difference between states, or counties for that matter, but right now all I know is we owe 10 thousand dollars in property taxes. If we don't pay that full amount by TOMORROW the house goes up for auction Friday. I have no idea if that means we have to be out by Friday or what. My mom ( yes I am 28 and live at home with my mother) is going to the Lake County treasury tomorrow to see what the hell is going on. 10k is just too much to ask for. I don't know anyone with that kind of money.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) This is terrible to hear about. I would have been homeless several years ago if it were not for the mercy of my ex-wife who took me in and let me live in a small cottage behind her home.....rent free. I was lucky, I guess you could say. I wish I had some answers for you. It pains me that I don't. I hope all works out for you. Don't be embarrassed, we're all friends. Thank you. Thank you Steve as well. I do consider you all friends. It's brutal trying to open up to my real friends about it and I actually wanted to come here first in hopes some can "talk me off the ledge" ( I usequotes because I don't want anyone thinking I'm gonna do anything stupid) and cool me down a bit. That took a lot for me to do.
