QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) Sports Football fans: What non-starters/rookie players are you most excited to watch in preseason? Allen, Houston, Acho, and Bass. I dint think you could consider any of them a starter at this point, so they fit the question. -

Small sample size but Rodon has a sub 3 era when pitching to Flowers (12 games). In 7 games pitching to Geo he has an ERA over 9. -
Win today and I'll still have some hope....yes we got swept by the Royals, but they weren't destroyed by them in any game. A loss is a loss but they still only lost each game by 1 run.

Wouldn't mind adding a bat if they're signed long term.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Alvarez 2-2 with a walk. This guy is good. How many more games does W-S have? He's the type of guy you can be aggressive with. IMO. Edit- guess I should also ask how many games AA has as well....I'd give Alvarez another 2 weeks in A+. Call Anderson up to make room.

Guess Wells played damn near everywhere for MSSU. Should be an interesting cat to follow. Not expecting anything right out the gate but ya. Keep him around for ST and see what you got. Sounds like a perfect JACK prospect. http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2015/05/pos...-wells-lbs.html -

Eh, either he's not healing well or there are multiple better options schematically. I trust the staff to pick the best 53. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) Seems like they are looking at him as a ST player first and foremost Get in where ya fit in. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) It's crazy all the rumors about Willie Young not making the final 53. Shows how crazy the football business side is. Sign a decent deal, have a great start, get a brutal injury and you are discarded. Soooo many potential OLBs on the roster that I'm not really surprised. Can't carry them all. -

If you believe his pro day results, he's really effing fast for a OLB. His 4.44 40 would have destroyed Beaselys 4.53, and his 3 cone would have been top 5 as well. His 15 reps would have been last though. 18 was the lowest at the combine. Starter on a really good defense at Miss St. Could be an interesting little project for Fangio...Get em in the weight room. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) Exactly. At that moment I gave up for good. Glass half empty here. First of all, you are wrong about Shark's trade value. If we would have traded him when I was calling for it (during one of those horrific streaks the team had in May or June, I forget) we'd have gotten a LOT for Shark. He was pitching well at one point. Teams were scouting him and he was doing well. Sox waited and now he's a total hack and worthless. If anybody pays him over 8 mill a year for 3-4 years they are nutso. He's just another body. Maybe a slightly above average pitcher ... maybe. Good luck getting your .500 season. I think Melky's clownlike behavior proves Sox heads are not in the game (Soto's baserunning). How come the Bulls can get rid of a great coach like thibs and the Sox can't pull the trigger on a lousy coaching staff and get rid of Robin?? Makes no sense. GIMME GARDY. GIMME A VETERAN MANAGER. Man greg, for someone who calls Danks a good a** pitcher it sure is silly to say Shark is MAYBE an above average pitcher. Most hear know I love Danks too, so don't get me twisted. Danks is good 66% of the time whereas Shark is good 75% of time (just throwing random numbers out there). If you think Jeff is maybe slightly above average then there's no way you should think Danks is anything more than average. Your obsession with Melky's clown like behavior is also silly to me. Look at the teams like KC, San Fran, the Boston team that won the WS, Detroit with Miggy others. They all had fun and "Acted like clowns". That's huge to me, baseball is a longgggg grind, if you're not having fun out there, you're doing it wrong. Gimme a manager who is gonna keep players loose. That's all I care about. Let the hitting coach deal with the hitting and the pitching coach deal with the pitching. The only gripe i have with Robin is the long rope he has given LaRoach. I kinda get it because if he ever gets hot he can carry a team but it just doesn't look like its gonna happen
-
This thread has gotten bizzare. Melky is roiding and needs to stop having fun. LaRoach doesn't deserve to have a beard..... Fun stuff guys. As you can tell from my signature below, I don't really think a manager have much of an impact at all. Buttttt I'm aware that not many fans think that way so to appease the fan base it is probably time fir Robin to go. I will say that I want a manager who ALLOWS the fun stuff to happen.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) The Mark Kotsay thing was on Ozzie. Ozzie wanted more flexibility out of the DH and KW let him make the call. KW wanted to re-sign Thome. And can we please just let Adam Dunn thing go? Sure he was horrible in 2011 and didn't live up to expectations overall, but the fact of the matter is that from 2012-2014 he was 5th in the Majors in HRs and 4th in BBs which are the two things that the Sox signed him to do. This team would look a lot better this year with Adam Dunn on it. I miss Dunn...for realzies -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) I'd say unlikely. Hell if I'm the Red Sox or A's, teams with first dibs, I claim him. Hope for the very long shot of a salary dump and take the comp pick. If a player is traded that team doesn't get a comp pick. I'd say there's no chance Shark gets traded.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) $16 million this year, then he becomes a free agent. Blistering .701 OPS too Essentially just ~$3 mill to a new team though right? I wouldn't mind him coming in. See if some time at DH cures his offensive woes.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) with a hr today, maybe there is something that was written. i have always been a fan of steverson even when the sox weren't doing ok. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) I'm a fan of Stevenson also. I like our coaching staff just want a new manager. Just curious as to why? We have had so many hitters underperform. Why is that seemingly on Robin and not Steverson? -

What should have been done in 2014? Just pick up scrap heap players and mail it in? Trade Sale? Q? -

To me, the question is do you think you have a better chance at winning with Sale-Q-Rodon-Fulmer-EJ/Montas and free agent hitters or do you think you can get fair value on guys like Sale and Q to "Rebuild" that way. I think maybe you entertain trading Q for hitting, but I wouldn't really call that a rebuild. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) There was an article somewhere (CSN I think) about Avi working with Steverson lately and figuring out what was wrong Gotcha, thanks. Hopefully something clicked and he balls out the rest of the season. -

One of the mods, Tony something, said Avi has been working on the mechanics of his swing...does he ( or do you, Tony) have some insider info? -

Highly doubt they do a full rebuild, and im not so sure they should. When you have the rotation they do/will have, all you have to be is average offensively to have a shot. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) I was checking the Chisox website and they have a story there about the Sox striving for consistency. What kind of consistency? losing by blowouts maybe? Then there is one on Garcia tring to find his power stroke as he continues to make outs by chasing balls outside and out of the zone. You know things are going bad when elrockin makes a negative post. Im sure glad I have an IDGAF attitude otherwise Id be a sad panda.

Adam Johns or Jahns or whatever was on some radio show this morning and said he'd be shocked if SMC wasnt one of the starting ILBs. Said he's the one out there calling plays on defense. Good for him. He's always just played out of position in my opinion. Also, on a previous page someone was talking about the learning curve for a rookie WR being huge. I'm not so sure I agree with that anymore, esp after the CB rule changes a few years ago. Rookie WRs are coming in and dominating right out of the gate and I think a lot of that has to do with the rule changes. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) Christopher Kamka @ckamka 2h2 hours ago John Danks this season in 6 starts vs teams currently in first place: 1.85 ERA in 39.0 IP I was cherry picking these same stats last year. It's baffling how he can be so damn good against good teams and s*** the bed vs bad teams. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) the main point is, and again that that into account and trying not finding the little argument to try to win this discussion..... better yet, i make it easier for you, you won. but take into account that 3 yr window you mention, guess what.... tic toc.. tic toc... tic toc. the sox is on the clock. so do you really think the sox would not be better than that comp pick?? do you really think that the sox had the decision not to sell before yesterday??? ref to bold.... bingo. I'm not trying to win an argument here. Yes, I think the Sox will get a better player with their comp pick than what they would have got in a trade. I believe Hahn when he said they were aggressive in trying to make moves, and agree that if the returns weren't up to par then you don't trade just to trade.
