Some disturbing Sox numbers…yet the status quo remains
2nd_city_saint787 replied to captain54's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Since the Sox fade down the stretch in 2012, (where they went 4-11, from 9-19 till the end of the season).. a terrible offensive slump and starters ERA in the 5's was their doom.. Combined record to date over the course of roughly three seasons: 212-279… 67 games under .500 Understood that the win pct. has gone up since the end of 2012, but comparing 2014 to 2015, we are only taking about 3 wins… the nightmarish 2013 record will skew this, but we have an average seasonal record over 3 seasons of roughly 70-92 Now I challenge anyone to name me one organization that puts this type of product on the field, and makes NO major changes concerning the powers that be that have engineered this mess over three seasons…. Underperforming players? (By the way, Rongey's favorite catch phrase).. Somepne in authority has put these under performers on the roster, on a consistent basis for a while now.. yet.. no responsibility.. no accountability.. The Royals? Yost and Moore were at the helm of some pretty bad Royal teams and now they've been the best team in the AL the last 2 years. I know circumstances are a little different as they've had underperforming youngsters while we have had underperforming vets. -
In Defense of Jay Cutler

QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) The irrational Cutler hate will forever be weird to me. The guys record as a starting QB under Lovie was 34-22. In his two years under with Martz (the only solid OC) he was 17-8 and went to an NFC Championship game. Some of the starters from that glorious 2010 year? His top 3 WRs were Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, and Earl Bennett. Awesome. His OL from left to right was Frank Omiyale, Chris Williams, Olin Kreutz, Roberto Garza, and Jamarcus Webb. Fantastic. The Bears finally get offensive weapons for him (albeit still with multiple sieves on the OL) and they pair him with the worst coaching staff that I can remember and the worst defense in franchise history. I get that the guy isn't a top 10 QB like we all wanted, but the hate he gets is just insane to me. Excellent post. People like to talk about how Rodgers gets it done himself, and yet the one Super bowl he's won they had a defense that ranked 2nd in the league. Jay, to me has just never been on a complete team like you alluded to. Hard to win a game when your defense is historically bad. He essentially has to play perfect, and that will never happen. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 05:42 AM) He also fumbles a ton, and has a knack for throwing INTs at the worst time. I went to the game Sunday. I had just said to my brother Cutler is having a really nice game when he threw the pick 6. He is obviously better than Claussen, and doesn't have a nice defense that can get him field position and take some pressure off having to score a ton of points to win. But he is what he is. The second you think he is doing well, something bad happens. It is a never ending occurrence. The problem with the whole "knack for throwing INTs at the worst time" thing is with the way the defense has played the last few years, every INT is the worst time. To overcome the defense he pretty much has to play perfect. Unless the defense gets fixed, chances are no matter who the QB is the Bears aren't gonna be any good. Jay has gaurenteed money coming his way next year then can be cut without any cap ramifications the following year. I would stick with him for 2016. Assuming they stay bad I would grab Bosa, Nkemdiche, or the CB out of Florida. If they go DL 1R, hope a CB makes sense in the 2R. If they go CB in the first, hope a pass rusher makes sense in the 2R. Whether that be a DLman who can get after the QB or an OLB. Long had a good week, ranking 2nd among OTs by PFF. Hopefully this continues and he can make the move to LT while playing Bushrod on the right side for a year, eliminating the need to go OT in the first round. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) Brock, Taker, HBK, Flair, and HBK announced for 10/19 Raw. Final Raw before Hell in a Cell and last time in Texas before mania. So I assume all 5 of those guys will be promoting mania and be on the card there. God I hope they do Rollins/HBK. Not sure how they get there but man do I wanna see that..

Call me crazy, but I would do Sale for Puig, Seager, and Barnes. Rodon looks like an ace, Q is a more than solid #2, the guys you're trading for are young enough to where Fulmer is gonna be around and should be a front of the rotation guy, and there are a plethora of guys who you can slot in to the 4/5 a year or 2 from now. I prefer trading Q, but if you can get 3 good young starters for one Chris Sale? I'm game.

Samardjiza believes he was tipping pitches
2nd_city_saint787 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How did his splitter look yesterday? Fangraphs put out a pretty solid article 5 days ago basically saying the reason he has struggled is because he is leaving his splitter in the strikezone. -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) There's nothing in his previous stats that say "great pitcher". I can't except the hype. There's certainly nothing in his previous stats that say worst pitcher in baseball either. At the very least you can say he's been a pretty good #3 pitcher in his career. -
Nothing at all wrong with "Clowning" (and I don't mean that as a pun to my avatar). I want more players who are out there having fun and helping keep the team loose. Look at KC, that team is full of clowns. San Fran has a lot of fun. The Boston team that won the WS the year after losing 90 games. The Tigers with Muggy. I suppose I understand people thinking they shouldn't be "clowning" when the team is doing so bad, but c'mon. They're out there 162 days hanging your head and mopping (and not being yourself) is not the way to do it. Send in the Clowns.

Athletics at White Sox

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Olt's supposed to have GG caliber defense. I know I've said this a few times, but I'm thrilled they don't seem to think Saladino is the 3B of the future. Yeah, absolutely need more power at 3B. Saladino at best is probably a stopgap at SS until Anderson is ready then becomes a utility player. -

Melky sure is rather clutch w/risp. Of hitters with 100 or more ABs w/risp Melky ranks 17th with a .333 BA. I know the risp stat gets ripped but at least it's something. -

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) This is my thought as well. There's already decent depth in the rotation even if he is traded. Sale/Rodon/Danks/Johnson/Someone else isn't too bad for next year and then Fulmer and one of Danish/Montas/Adams/Beck/etc in 2017 can replace Danks and the #5 guy. Really hoping Buehrle wants to retire a White Sox. I wouldn't blame him for wanting to go to a contender though. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) i would add Jose A there and Q. Q is fantastic but I hope he's traded for the best package of bats the Sox can get. Unless they wanna package some prospects together(Not apposed to this as long as it isn't Anderson/Fulmer/Adams/Alvarez((yes I'm super high on Alvarez))) trading Q is the best way to get back the offense they need. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) How else do you fix the fact that we're below average at 7 positions again? If we're going to compete next year we can't afford to just sign one guy and we need solid upgrades at many positions. We must spend big money on mid level free agents to compete next year. It'll work this time. If they are willing to pay, why not keep trying? Not my money.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) Sutton I thought played great. This post got lost. What a surprise he has been. Taking preseason performance into account as well, he looks like he can be a potential building block. I really love that the Bears seemingly could have a front 3 in house for years to come for cheap in Will, Ego, and Eddie. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) I was thrilled. I expected to get beat pretty bad and we were extremely competitive and if a few plays went our way, could have very much won that game. Pack made some great plays on offense and James Jones clearly has a nice fit in Green Bay. Bottom line, I liked the overall game plan and liked the fact that we were competitive against the Packers. Forte was a beast (other then that dropped gimme at the goaline..but he made up for it). Really only series I didn't like was that goal line series where we got bailed out by GB's stupidity. The other goal line series where they passed 4 times from the 2 was awful as well. You're running down Green Bays throat all day, you have the ball at the 2 and you decide to throw it 4 times? That was some Trestman like s*** right there. A TD there and the game might be different. -
What would the Sox all time starting rotation look like?

Chris Sale Carlos Rodon Carson Fulmer Ed Walsh Billy Pierce ....Cuz I can see the future. -
Yeah, if we decide to keep the house and change the deed to us as homeowners plus also turn in the most recent appraisal of 25k then property taxes should only be $250. Which is insane considering where they were. Could be a nice little blessing in disguise if we can come up with the 10k. Still gonna do draftkings hoping for a miracle. I pride myself on being a good guy so I need Karma to have a conversation with the football gods about cashing in all the good karma I've collected over the years. (Greenish)

You should go BPA in the first round. Then after that is when you start playing the underslot/overslot game to make sure you have the money to sign everyone. I think LDF saw everyone talking about BPA in last years thread but it was simply about round 1.

When shooting a gun, isn't there gun powder residue on your hands? Couldn't they just check his hands? No residue means no suicide. I suppose a rebuttal to that could be that they don't know whether he shot at these 3 beforehand.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) Those aren't projections, those are what he's produced, it was a joke based on the fact that he's very slightly improving on awful performances year-by-year. But, fwiw, projection systems got Avi's performance this year pretty much spot on. Also worth mentioning the projections had the White Sox at about 78 wins, whilst 92% of soxtalk had them at 80+: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...amp;pid=3129545 Gotcha, well played. I still think you give Avi one more year. He had a horrible month of June. Take June out and he's hit .294 on the year.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) Good news on Avi everyone! He's due to turn in a positive WAR in about 2019: How often are those projections even right?
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) Melky is the bigger anchor: lousy defender, hitting poorly, stuck a year beyond Laroche, cost a draft pick. He's hitting .322/.377/.479 w/RISP. That alone makes him worth it. Tyler Flowers is 3rd among regulars w/RISP. We need more clutch hitters not less.

IMO, with the pitching staff they have they can get by with some holes. Find me a new 3rd baseman and a new DH and call it a day. Zobrist would be perfect in the 2 hole. Not sure who they can snag for DH, but the team needs more power.
