QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) You could trade anyone in the farm and not skip a beat this year. Don't devalue an asset just because you don't need him today. Undervaluing assets, such as trading a top 100 prospect for an average bat, is a sure-fire way to return to 73 wins. Sox will need pitchers (2 of them) for next season. Stockpile the pitching. The Sox should be working on a trade of Samardzija anyway. Sell high, for a change. You ignored every other part of my post. Again average is not what I'm looking for. And again, if this team keeps winning I can see Shark back plus see Fulmer move quickly ala Rodon and then all of a sudden you have Sale-Shark-Q-Rodon-Fulmer for years to come and guys like EJ, Montas, and Danish have no spot in the rotation. Stockpiling arms is typically a good plan but there are only 5 spots in the rotation. With the holes on offense, the Sox inability to develop hitters within, and FA hitters typically not being very good, if you can get a hitter for one of those prospects, you do it.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) Why would you trade your best setup guy if you're going for it? Work has limited my watching, so I had to go look at the game logs....for awhile it looked like Putnam leaped ahead of Jake, he seems to have cooled down a bit. I would still think about it for the right hitter. Ya still have Putnam, Webb, albeit not in high leverage situations for the most part, has shown something, and Jones looks like he's making a strong return.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) I still have no clue why people hate on Petricka. I'm certainly not hating on him by including him in players to potentially be traded. I'm saying he has some value.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) Productive prospects for average bats.....That's a sure fire way to 73 wins again. Montas is a top 100 prospect and looking better all the time. EJ probably could be in this rotation right now. Can't trade those 2 for an average bat. To rent Upton, perhaps (although I wouldn't). Danish is not my cup of tea, but he's being underavalued for an average bat. Petricka and Putnam - fine, except we need them. Petricka particularly fits this team with his groundball ways. Trade Leury and some non-descript A ball prospect for an average bat. I know I said average bat but that was more a play on how bad the holes on the team have been. Of course you want more than average, all I was saying is even an average bat makes the team that much better. SP is a strength, you can trade one of those guys and not skip a beat. You keep your big 4 of Sale-Shark-Q-Rodon and also add a bat to the fold. Not sure how you can say that would be a sure fire way to 73 wins. Wouldn't shock me to see Shark resigned and see Fulmer go the same route Rodon goes, so come midseason 2016 you have your rotation locked up for years to come.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) This is also why I'm so hesitant to move Samardzija. Even if the offense improves just a LITTLE bit, this team will be really good. That's why if I'm the Sox and I'm within 3 games of the wild card, I'm trying to trade guys like EJ, Mantas, Danish, Petricka, and Putnam for a big league bat. You fill a hole or 2 with even average players and it's a whole new team.

Hypothetically speaking, Sox continue to creep closer to contention....Am I the only one who would look to package EJ and Putnam for a bat?

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) Bobby Portis looks like quite the steal MCBuckets still looks like a MCBUST Didn't watch it, but the box score doesn't look bad for Doug. 9-16 for 20 points isn't too shabby. What am I missing? Love that Portis nailed 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. -
If anyone here has knowledge of house foreclosures from a law standpoint I would love a PM.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) 12-6 the last 18, and won 7 of those 12 games scoring 3 or fewer runs. That's not a good sign, but if this season proves anything, you don't have to be a consistently good baseball team to make the postseason. It's going to be an interesting 3 weeks. Yup, I'm waiting a bit to start selling. If they can get to .500 in their 10 game stretch against KC, the Cards, and Cleveland I might just ride it out and hope for best. If they can get to the playoffs anything can happen when you throw out that rotation. Hell I might even try to trade EJ and or Micah for a bat if the Sox are within 3 games of the 2nd wild card come July 27th......But then again I'm just forever the optimist. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Also 12 out of 18. Very easily could be 14 of 18 as well. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) It's weird, cause that one losing stretch for a week and a half that should have gotten Robin fired at the time pretty much ended our season. It takes too much to overcome such a record in that stretch. Like I've been saying we have to have about a 12-game win streak or 22 out of 26 to have an actual shot at playoffs IMO. Sox have to avoid such stretches in the future or it's continued lack of playoffs. It doesn't even have to be that extreme. Right now the team with the 2nd wild cards is 6 games over .500. That is the Twins. For whatever reason I still can't buy into the twins and think they falter at some point.....Next up is the Tigers, who lost Miggy for awhile, and are just 3 over .500......The next 3 teams are a combined 6-24 collectively in their last 10 games.....After that the Sox are just a game behind the rest of the bunch. I wouldn't be shocked if the the 2nd wild card team wins 85 games. -

Am I the only one here who thinks Brooks>Lin? Is Lin the better/mire willing passer? Yea probably, but I'm really hoping that we see the old Joakim Noah point center used a lot next year. I know people are down on him as well, but with all heads has posted about Fred and all I've read about him, I really think that version of Jo would thrive in this offense. Let Jo run the point then space the floor with shooters. -

I don't mind Brooks being back. Certainly not the purest of point guards but he's a good 3 pointer shooter. Also from all we've heard Fred might be running the offense through non point guards a good portion of the time. Also means they can use their MLE on a SG/SF. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) yeah, but the pen is the best group the sox have. it is the batters or lack of, in the beginning of the season, that dug the hole. now if you can look at the rest of the positional players, as nice as this team is looking, it has some huge gaping holes, that the org doesn't have a replacement players. but damn, this team could have been fantastic. fvvck the fo for not finishing the job. I really can't blame the FO all that much. Who knew Lexi would blow, neither 2nd basemen would pan out(yet), the whole OF for the most of the year would underperform. 3b and C are the only positions you can make the argument for them failing to notice upgrade. Catcher around the league suck any way so that's a tough hole to fill. As you just said the pen is a strength too to go along with those 4 SPs. If they ADD a bat they would look like a different team.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) yeah, i agree and i think that was how this all mess started. many of the sox fans, believed and so did the sports writers. They've just recently all started clicking. Rodon has only been up for 9 starts and has been starting to look better. Jeff has looked like the pitcher we hoped for the last few starts. Even Sale early on wasn't Sale, nor was Q if I remember correctly.
-
No matter what, I would wait till the end of July to decide what to do. If they are like 3 games or less behind come July 25th I wouldn't sell. Sale-Shark(if we get the Shark of the last few starts)-Q- Rodon in a series could be really nice.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) what to overcome the hole that the sox are in to what??? make the wild card running? this is a "fool gold" kind of wishful thinking. realistically i can't see it. With the pitching staff going the way it is I don't think trying for a wild card spot is a bad thing. I know I'm in the minority but I wouldn't hate to see the Sox ADD a bat somehow. You add a bat to this staff and its a whole new team.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 07:04 AM) i kinda wish that the trade gets done sooner than later. they should should put out the feelers now and see what is out there. this not doing anything is bull crap. It's July 5th. No reason to rush being sellers. I would also give this team a bit more time no matter how crazy that sounds. Who knows maybe that catch last night lights a fire under Avi and he takes off. With the pitching performing like we had hoped all we need is one or 2 guys to carry this team.

Wonder if Niko can convince Sergio Rodriguez to come over for the MLE. Reading about his last 2 years in Europe it sounds like he transformed himself into a really good 3 point shooter. Id love to see him and Niko bring that Euro swag to the team. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) Heck of an effort by Danks. Probably the most surprising pitching performance of the season. I'd say the shutout against Houston was a little more surprising. Fun fact....in 23 inning vs the 3rd, 4th, and 5th highest scoring teams in the league, Danks has given up 2 runs. I remember last year when I cherry picked Danks stats he was solid against teams with winning records and dreadful vs bad teams. If not for the 2 late inning losses, the Sox would have been 9-2 in their last 11....7-4 ain't bad either -
Was ring announcing for a show last night. Accidently announced a guy named Greg Glover Gary Glover. Went up to apologize after his match and it turns out he's a big Sox fan and was cool with it. Real cool guy, we talked Sox for awhile during the show. Said he was gonna join Soxtalk so we'll see. Had a fun show though. It was at a fair and they made us end it short because everyone form the fair was watching the show and not spending money at the actual fair. Had us scheduled for a double shot and canceled today's show too. So we got shut down for being too good. Lol.
