SOX @ Oakland, 3:05 PM...CSN/WSCR AM 670
QUOTE (rockren @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 05:42 PM) Pods fly ball in Left in the 8th should have been caught. The ball hit at the lower base of the wall...he makes Manny look good in Left. God I hope we don't bring him back next year. He does one thing decently well (get on base), and I highly doubt he hits .298 next year.

Stephen Strasburg
I trust BaseballAmerica more than anyone else when it comes to the draft, and Jim Callis says he'd be "stunned" if Strasburg doesn't sign.

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
Brad Lidge is awful. Manuel is insane for staying with him.

Dayan Viciedo September cup of coffee?
He's on the 40 man, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got one.

Flowers voted Southern League's best defensive catcher
http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/pros...009/268703.html Interesting, I wonder how much his defense has actually improved. He was also voted as having the best strike zone judgement, not a surprise. Retherford was voted the best defensive second baseman.

White Sox Media People
A few years ago I would have said Hawk, but his b****ing about the umpires has gotten too annoying.

Podsednik is bad at baserunning
Why the f*** was Pods in center tonight? I don't want Pods back next year.

Jeter
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) It will be just like this season when Sutcliffe was doing a Yankees game on ESPN and Jeter made a routine play into a stretch and his jump throw... Sutcliffe then babbled on for roughly 5 minutes about the article that game out in the offseason about how Jeter was the worse defensive everyday player in the majors and how the evil people were using stats in that article etc... Except he and ESPN's entire production staff failed to mention that article was based on a group of scouts watching video!!! not stats!!! Sutcliffe is the worst analyst on tv

15 Years Ago Today
August 12, 1994, the players went on strike I was only eight at the time, so I don't remember the strike too much. Looking back at it, the thing that pisses me off is that it was basically for nothing. The owners never got a salary cap that baseball needs, and everything is the same. This year the Yankees may very well prove that you can buy a championship. Obviously, who knows what could have happened with the Sox? One game up on Cleveland the day the players walked out, with Frank having a monster year. And of course, baseball could still be in Montreal.

Jeter
It would be hilarious if Jeter juiced, just to hear the media excuses for him.

Does Wise have dirt on Ozzie or Kenny?
It's a joke. I'm not too surprised though, Ozzie's always had this love for speed guys, even if they can't get it. Pods (06-07), Erstad, Wise, we've seen Ozzie's love for these guys.

Power-hitting (HR leading) teams rarely make playoffs
Home runs are a good thing, anybody who thinks otherwise is wrong. The thing is, you need two and three run homers instead of solo shots. That's been the problem for the Sox, we haven't had enough high on base guys in front of our sluggers.

Torres to start Saturday... Nunez going back down.
Figured they would go with Torres, and I'm glad they did. Definately a much, much, much better option than Carrasco.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
You could give Thome, CQ, Pods, and Dye 1-2 days off each week. We wouldn't have to see the nightmare that is Pods in CF. This also means that Pods won't be back next year, which is probably a good thing. He's been great this year but I don't expect him to do this two years in a row.

Game Thread: 8/7 Sowers(3-7) @ Buehrle(11-5) 7:11CDT WCIU
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) I said a .500 team. Nobody can argue with that. We are mediocre. I accept it. The team has teased us with some great great moments and wins; but we are just .500 this year. The Sox are far from a great team, the thing is 85 wins might get us into the playoffs.

And Orlando Cabrera strikes out, Tigers win.

Why is Buehrle still in the game?

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Only question I have here is... if Rios has a NT could he still nix a trade? Yes. I wouldn't really have a problem with this, depending on who we give up obviously.

Smoltz DFA'ed
Smoltz is finished. It's a shame he couldn't have just retired after last season.

Arena Football League Folding
QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) The bad thing I think is they score TOO much. Its not that fun when the games are like 77-62 or something Tell me about it. I don't want to watch a high scoring game like that with a 50 yard field and players who are just NFL rejects.

8/6 Games
You heard it here first, Ryne Sandberg will be the next manager of the Cubs.
