  1. The way I look at it, the 2005 Chicago White Sox are 2 games away from winning their second World Series. I am all for it.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) I honestly thought it was pretty well known. The guy has problems reading and writing. I'd call that uneducated, not necessarily dumb. The guy is clearly street smart and frequently plays a lot of educated individuals for chumps. He is no idiot despite his love affair with small ball and the old Lefty-Lefty Right-Righty matchups.
  3. Are you sure they don't mean Eduardo Sanchez?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) You mean you have a list of people you sext? Oh wait, that is my XXX-mas list. Nevermind. Zero class, my friend.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) I did love the tits vs ass and Jews vs Muslims comparisons. That really was the absolute peak of that episode. I am still laughing about it. This line in episode two was pretty priceless, too... "There is no 'I' in team but there is a 'U' in c***, so don't be little jealous c***s."
  6. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) The one constant through all the years has been Nancy. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But Nancy has marked the time. She will be missed. Thanks Terrance Mann. That was on one of my cable movie channels yesterday. Still enjoy it.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) Some of my favorite childhood memories were made to your soundtrack. I hope retirement treats you well, because I will miss you! ^^^^^^This. Nancy and the true organ were a great mainstay of south side baseball. She will be sorely missed by many generations of fans.
  8. In a game like this in a season like this, I see opportunity. Not to play youngsters, not to see if some of the old guys can still cut it for next year. No, I think tonight is the night that Torii Hunter should get a fast one right in the earhole for all his years of being a complete cocksucker, from the Jaime Burke b.s. to snubbing the Sox a few years back to all his dumb comments and everything in between. I hate that POS more than any other player in baseball and would really like to see him get what's coming to him.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) I took this from Joel Horlen's bio In 1964 he earned a spot in the starting rotation, posting a 13-9 record and setting career bests in earned run average (1.88; 2nd in the American League only to Dean Chance's 1.65) and strikeouts (138). He also led the majors by allowing only 6.07 hits per 9 innings, bettering Sandy Koufax's National League-leading 6.22. In the next 42 years, only 8 right-handed pitchers bettered that ratio in a season. He also led the AL in Walks + Hits per IP (WHIP) (.935). That year his White Sox battled the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles for the pennant, but finished second, one game behind the Yankees and one game ahead of the Orioles. In 1965 he was 2nd in the league in shutouts (4), and was 3rd in walks/9 IP (1.60). In 1966 he led the league in wild pitches (14), was 6th in hit batsmen (6), and was 2nd in ERA (2.43). Horlen’s best season was in 1967; he finished 19-7 and led American League pitchers with a 2.06 ERA and 6 shutouts, was 2nd in W-L percentage (.731), 4th in wins, complete games (13), and walks/9 IP (2.02), and 7th in innings pitched (258). He also led the AL in Walks + Hits per IP (WHIP) (.953). He was named to the American League All-Star team for the only time in his career, but did not pitch in the game. The highlight of Horlen’s season was a clutch performance on September 10 as the White Sox were involved in a four-way pennant race with the Twins, Boston Red Sox, and Detroit Tigers; he no-hit the Tigers in the first game of a doubleheader at Comiskey Park. Not until the Tigers' Jack Morris no-hit the White Sox in 1984 would another no-hitter be pitched in a White Sox home game, and the next no-hitter by a White Sox in a White Sox home game wouldn't be pitched until 2007, by Mark Buehrle at U.S. Cellular Field. He should have won the Cy Young that year IMO Horlen recorded victories in his next three starts, the next one coming five days later against the Twins. However, on September 27, which would be known by White Sox fans as “Black Wednesday,” the lowly Kansas City Athletics swept a doubleheader from the White Sox and effectively eliminated Eddie Stanky's "Hitless Wonders" (as the team was known because no regular batted above .250) from pennant contention. Horlen lost the second game, with 21-year-old Catfish Hunter shutting out the White Sox 4-0. On an interesting note, the two games were the last played by the Athletics in Kansas City; they would move to Oakland for the start of the 1968 season. The White Sox finished fourth, three games behind the Red Sox who, after finishing next to last in 1966, won the pennant on the final day, finishing one game ahead of the Twins and Tigers. Horlen finished runner-up to Jim Lonborg, the star of the Red Sox staff, in the American League Cy Young Award balloting, and 4th in MVP voting. In 1968 he led the AL in hit batsmen (14). In 1970 he was 5th in walks/9 IP (2.14). In spring training of 1972, two weeks after voting unanimously in favor of a strike, the White Sox released Horlen, who had been the Sox’ player representative. [edit] Oakland Athletics (1972) He later signed with Oakland, and pitched mostly in relief as the Athletics won the World Series — the first in franchise history since 1930. [edit] After the major leagues In 1989, Horlen played for the St. Lucie Legends of the Senior Professional Baseball Association.[2] [edit] Personal life Horlen is a convert to Judaism.[1][2] L'shanah tovah, Joe Jimmy Piersall is, without a doubt, my all time favorite interview in the world of baseball. I am not sure why he is no longer featured, but he used to have a regular bit on one of the Chicago sports radio talk shows and was so entertaining and engaging. He said some off the wall stuff, but more often than not it was his frankness and honesty that struck you more than his quirkiness. If I am not mistaken, he ended up getting suspended once for calling players' wives "horny broads". He was also known for being a phenomenal center fielder and even finished third for the batting title one year at .322. When he hit his 100th home run, he ran the bases backwards.
  10. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) no, to be out is a sign of being a long time Sox fan and having been conditioned for disappointment. If you are old enough to name the '83 roster, and the years after, you know what I'm talking about......and yes I'm well aware of 2005, that does not change anything This. The memory of the Dibber and Fred Manrique is enough to give you the chills.
  11. It is easy to say in or out unless you have to pay your season ticket invoice today. That is the real gut check, am I willing to tie up a chunk of cash in 10 potential postseason games that might not even be played? If they do get eliminated before the postseason, I effectively give the White Sox an interest free loan until opening day next year just to ensure I keep my current seat location.
  12. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Oh hell....... DON'T STOP BELIEVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hold on to that feeeeling! (This thread has made missing my flight and being stuck in the airport in Miami worthwhile. Hot latin women all around me helps, too.)
  13. Congrats Hibby and apologies to Elgin Slim. You beat GH on the post but for some strange reason not the PM. I will keep on top of the list next time I get sent out of town last minute.
  14. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) I am out of town and can't use my seats. No one wants to pay and I hate to see them wasted. First to PM me gets 2 seats in Section 103 Row 3. You just have to pay $4 email delivery fee. Act fast. Seriously?! I can't give tickets away for a whopping $4 price tag? Damn people, send me a message and don't let these nice seats go to waste.

  16. I took my 5 and 7 year old boys fishing yesterday at Maple Lake in Willow Springs. They insisted we get a boat and row to the middle. After an hour of that futile torture, we went back to the short and caught/released a bunch of blue gill before my 5 year old and I decided to dig in into the cooler and eat. The oldest wanted to try baiting the hook and casting the line by himself. Neither of the other two of us was paying attention when all of a sudden he starts yelling for help reeling in a fish. Turn out to be a 14" widemouth bass. He was the talk of the lake despite his dad not knowing crap about fishing. Lots of fun.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) OK, I don't know how popular this topic is going to be, but I am curious to see if there is anybody else out there like me. Does anybody else somewhat resent football for taking all the national and local attention away from baseball once NFL training camp starts? Sometimes it feels like the trade deadline July 31 is the last time baseball gets the spotlight, from a coverage/attention point of view. Then NFL training camp starts, followed by the ultra-meaningless preseason games that are really hyped up, (then 20 pages of coverage about Cutler's two, yes, two passes), and baseball doesn't really take center stage again until the World Series. I work at a bar with one big main TV at the front. Not once, not twice, but THREE times over the past two weeks I was asked to change the channel from a pennant race baseball game (twice it was the Sox) to a pre-season football game. I know I shouldn't complain about other people's preferences, but this always manages to get me frustrated. Don't get me wrong, I AM a Bears fan. But I am far and away a baseball fan first. Football only really matters to me on Sundays in the fall/winter. I don't hate football, but I can't stand how America and Chicago makes it such a big deal, bigger than baseball, while there are pennant races going on. Or when the Sox tank and a popular post on Sox message boards is "I've got one thing to say: Go Bears!" To me, the Sox are so much more important. Anyway, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way. Football is king, in this city and in this country, and I should just accept it. But does anybody else resent it a little? I couldn't agree more with you. I find it that much more annoying since I consider the Bears to effectively be the Cubs of the NFL. Yes, they did win a title in some of our lifetimes, but they have a really annoying fan base and a sense of entitlement and royalty that is based entirely on distant history/success versus the present doings of the team. I am fairly certain that if the Cardinals had never moved from Chicago most Sox fans would have grown up Cardinals and not Bears fans.
  18. I posted this in ticket exchange already, but time is short so... I have to miss my favorite game of the year tonight, Elvis Night. It is always a blast so I highly recommend changing your plans tonight. Face value of tickets is $84 (plus $4 email fee totals $88). If you can't do that, send me a note with the best you can do. Best offer gets the tickets before the deadline to send tickets passes at 5 PM Central Time. Thanks for looking. EDIT: SECTION 103, ROW 3; SEATS 10 and 11. Great view from RF next to the visitor's bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Yeah, think so. So they got that going for them, which is nice.
  20. Does this mean the Sox will have precedence over any player placed on waivers assuming the Twins hang on tonight?
  21. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) AJ sucks just as much as Kotsay. Post of the week right there. From a distance I can't tell the difference between them when watching their at-bats.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) BBBJ ? No thanks, I am good for now.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Old school would be Fast Eddie. E. Jack City?
  24. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) Another quick counter to the whole "If we lose the division it won't be because of Kotsay, it will be because of the pitching failing" argument: Wouldn't it be nice if Teahen or Viciedo or Bridge had the opportunity to get a big hit to bail out a sub-par pitching performance? Kotsay can't bail Freddy out with a 2 out RBI base hit; I mean he CAN but the odds say he won't. The odds say the other guys, at the very least, MIGHT. UGHHH what a garbage argument and I can't believe a proclaimed Sox observer could say that AND believe it. Maybe it is correct that Kotsay won't cost you a division. However, with how tough all pitching in the playoffs can be, having him on a playoff roster, let alone in the lineup, could definitely cost you a trip to the ALCS or WS. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, though.
