QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) The funny part is that for the first time you used numbers, you were still wrong. Dunn hit .136 and .145 during that time respectively. So in his worst months by far, Lillibridge was still 84 and 45 points better, with better power numbers including the factor of way less ABs. I was just impressed he finally actually cited some statistics. I did not bother to check their validity but it was nice to see him try to use facts to support his argument. I just read the entire day of this thread for entertainment purposes and am pretty convinced he is a member of the Guillen family. Not Ozzie, but one of the kids. Somewhat educated but still a high level of ignorance instilled by his father over the years. Also has no self awareness or ability to recognize when to cut his losses. Then proudly beats his chest and declares victory when everyone gives up in exasperation. Lots of fun. Thanks for the laughs.

I recall back in the day the local papers would report minor league stats and I would follow numbers and last names. I recall when Thigpen and Menendez were two hot prospects. No idea what happened to Menendez but Thiggy had some decent seasons on the bump. I also remember tracking a third baseman named Thomas who obviously worked out better than expected but at first base. To answer the question, though, my dad never really liked Carlton Fisk for some reason. He thought Fisk was an overrated jerk. He got me all excited about a young catcher of the future, Joel Skinner. Skinner hung around the bigs for several seasons but finished his playng career with 17 home runs, 136 RBI, a .228 batting average and .269 OBP.

Where Can You Find that Iconic Pic/Poster of the 1993 Clinch?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) 1983 ^^This. 9 years old, fans celebrate the clinching peacefully on the field at the old ballpark, listening to that game on the radio until Sportvision allowed it on free TV and I watched with my dad, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Great memories even if Tito Landrum and Dybzinski f***ed it up in the end. -
Crede still in pain after two years

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) Along with Willie Harris, Geoff Blum, Timo Perez, Shingo Takatsu, Dustin Hermanson, Cliff Politte, Neal Cotts, and Chris Widger. And it's two titles in that 100-year time frame. Man, you're good at this. Forgive me, but isn't it 3 title (1906, 1917 and 2005) in a 100 year time frame versus one in a gazillion? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) What is worth pointing out again on Flowers and De Aza is that these guys don't need to be all stars. They don't need to put up 1.000+ OPS numbers. De Aza has good speed, plays good defense, and so far hits the ball with authority. His numbers are going to come down a bit from here, he's not this good, but with what he's doing right now there's no reason he can't be a .280 hitter with some moderate pop. His walk rate right now is 1/2 of what it was in Charlotte, so there is still some work to be done here, but a guy who could leadoff, play good defense, be cheap, and give a .750ish OPS would be a substantial upgrade from expensive 50% CS rate Juan Pierre. Flowers is sorta the same boat. He's not going to keep up this batting average with that number of strikeouts, but he's taking walks, his strikeout rate isn't "THAT" much worse than it was in the minors, and when he hits the ball he hits it with authority. There's no reason he can't put up an .800 OPS out of the catcher's spot while being cheap. I agree. In reality, over a full 162 games you can live with them coming down the earth, enduring some slumps and riding hot streaks. I can handle that....as long as it starts next year. Now I want an unreal sustained performance from those three to give the Tigers a good run for the next month. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) There was something about that team where I always believed in them no matter what. Was a ridiculous homer in 05, always had faith in that group. They gave you plenty of reasons to do so, even as that lead dwindled late in the season. -
Get it over with and let Buehrle go to Yanks/Red Sox

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) Has Mark ever shown any interest in going to Boston or New York? Well, I do recall he wanted to pitch in Yankee Stadium but Jerry Manuel started Cotts instead. ;-) -
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) 20 years ago today, Wilson Alvarez threw a no-hitter at Baltimore. I'll take Buehrle's 3rd no-hitter tonight, and will accept nothing less. I remember that game well. He was relatively new to the rotation too, if I recall correctly. Had been primarily pitching out of the pen to start his career. After the final out he looked totally dumbfounded like he had no idea what had just happened.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) How could you possibly complain about Ozzie tonight? What's wrong with Sale facing two guys, then Sergio one? Sale has been pretty f***ing good and Sergio is amazing. Here we finally have a good manager and you guys want to run him out of town and begin the merry go round of managers again. I don't get it. Get rid of Kenny? Yes. Ozzie, no. Just make sure the next GM has total control over the ML roster, not Ozzie. Kudos to Sale and Sergio And from the box score it looks like Ohman and Frasor did OK but Frasor apparently walked a guy. And it looks like Morel is getting better. Keep the home runs coming, White Sox. We need them. It's our ONLY offensive victory formula to go with pitching. If we can hit a ton of homers the next two months we can get back in the race. If not, we'll be doomed to oblivion. I still can't figure out if you are legit or not. I am starting to head toward the Milkman camp on this verdict.

I agree the season is just bad and not enjoyable to watch at all. However, when Rios tanked that play last night to allow the triple, I got up and cheered with the Yankees fans near me, hoping for an inside the park home run just out of spite to Rios and Guillen. That WAS fun.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) I hate to say it, but we do get comments about Ozzie Guillen's heritage on here. That he didn't go to school, that he favors latin players because of their heritage, and occasionally stuff that is harsher. I agree that we get that here from time to time but the hyperbole Junior threw out in that article makes a giant jump from subtle racism to "go home Mexican!" I know Junior is respected to a decent level here but this reeks of the Guillen family using their media access to deliberately attempt to discredit a site that has now become fairly unanimous in its anti-Oney stance and pretty lopsided in its calls for the end of the Ozzie era. I am not sure he was making a mistake in calling out SoxTalk versus some other forum. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Greg and Marty (with the possibility of SS2k5?) are the only people left on the site that don't believe Ozzie needs to go. I gather from the tone of recent posts that he is tipping to the other side as well.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) I'm missing something here. Somebody blasted me for telling Mrs. Teahen she looked good instead of the way Oney described her. Then somebody said looks had nothing to do with it even though most of her post was about looks. She thanked me for the compliment in one of her ensuing posts. What am I missing here? Where did I become evil again? Kill this post if it takes the thread in a weird direction but what is goin on ? Dude! It's all good and I was not blasting you. I was just chuckling at the many responses complimenting the wife of a major league player on her physical appearance. I understand the circumstances here and why it makes all the gushing more understandable. You just happened to do it pretty emphatically and then reiterate it shortly thereafter with even more gusto in a subsequent post. It was kind of cute in the way my son walks around with a wonder woman action figure and says "her's a nice lady". The big difference is you are a grown man (I think) and my boy is three.
-
To be fair to Oney....he did call for Blum to pinch hit in game 3. ;-)
-
QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) What did Oney reply back to Mark? Don't really feel like going through 22 pages of bickering. Since he could not air any dirty clubhouse laundry on Teahen and the fact that Teahen has a great reputation as a solid and charitable guy, Oney did the only thing an immature spoiled brat could do and insulted Teahen's wife. The insults were genious, too. Called her out for being generally unattractive for not fitting his description of an ideal woman. Basically her height, build and complexion were the subject of his replies. In other words, he acted like the 6th grade child that he is.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Pants "Oliver Stone" Rowland. Really? A pre-emptive tweet can set off a concussive domino effect that can lead to Ozzie getting fired? Sounds like a tangential plotline from Inception that was thrown out. I've heard of the butterfly effect, but ... now it seems we're all reading way too much into this. Back, and to the left... back, and to the left... back, and to the left. LOL Funny, after posting, I thought to myself, "or it was just something that the entire clubhouse wanted to be said for a long time and Teahen decided to be that guy."
-
This thread along with the other one that start the whole discussion crack me up. I love the way so many people feel the need to reassure the obviously confident and self secure wife of a major league baseball player that she really really really is a really pretty lady (props to greg for the inspiration). Awesome. On a related note, I will go one step further regarding the original tweet and what it meant. With all due respect to this thread starter, I am pretty confident it was about Oney. However, I think it was a very calculated action that was intended not so much to take a childish swipe at Oney but rather to deliberately provoke him. I think Teahen is such a class act that he was willing to risk his spotless MLB reputation for a brief moment to flush out Oney and the Guillen family. It would not surprise me at all that Teahen was trying to do a service for his former White Sox teammates by provoking Oney, and hopefully Ozzie, to do something stupid again and get themselves fired and out of Chicago. Look at how overwhelming the responses have been on this board against Oney. Even many Guillen apologists/supporters are lumping the two of them together and are calling for some type of reprimand or outright firing of Ozzie. I think Teahen is a smart guy and saw how disfunctional the clubhouse has been and believes the Guillen family circus is at the root of it all and possibly the far bigger cause for the team's mediocrity rather than KW's failures as a GM. Maybe it is a silly conspiracy theory of mine, but the tweet just does not fit Teahen's personality and reputation.

Great stuff, Mrs. T. High class all the way and deserving of loud cheers from us White Sox fans. I have hated the Blue Jays going back to the days of Dave Stieb, and losing to them in 1993 did not help matters much. However, after reading your heartfelt words and knowing your husband now plays north of the border, I will have to soften my stance against the Blue Jays. Best of luck to you and your family.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) Couldn't agree more with this, and to add on to what you're saying, I think this year (for the first time) the disgust our fanbase has with the Guillen family is starting to hurt at the box office. Which WILL get Uncle Jerry's attention. I'm still very worried Kenny will be back in 2012. But, while I'm also still worried Ozzie will be, that worry lessens with every passing day, and every stupid moment involving him and/or his family. I agree as well. I also am starting to wonder if the performance of this team has less to do with KW assembling a lemon and a lot more to do with the constant distractions and lack of trust the players have of their manager.
