From the old guys . . .
Thanks for the good sentiments in starting this thread, Tex. I have gathered that some of my favorite posters are up there in years and have a great perspective on the game. This afternoon I was talking to a friend who is originally from Italy and the Cubs "curse" came up. I had not even read this thread yet, but basically said the same thing about the amount of world series wins by the Yankees, Cardinals, Red Sox, A's, Dodgers, and one or two others. Everyone else has struggled to stay relevant over the years. It is a tough game and one that will eat you up if you let it. In 2006 I decided I would turn off a game if I started getting angry. It has made me enjoy baseball a lot better. My son said to me the other day "we don't like the Cubs, right?" I responded, "If you like baseball, watch baseball. If not, don't watch it, but the worst thing you can do is waste your time cheering against another team. Just enjoy the game." I don't care how anyone wants to experience the Sox or baseball here, but it seems we would all be a lot better off just appreciating the beauty of being able to watch baseball just about every day for 6 months out of the year.

Lingering Injury Thread
I have a moderate tear of my medial meniscus. At least that is what the doctor reading my MRI a year or so ago told me. I hurt it one workout a year or two ago either climbing the rope or when I slipped jumping on a box. From that day on, I have had trouble on and off, sometimes having to shut it down for a week or so. The MD said there was nothing I could do to help it heal short of surgery, which really does not heal it either. I found that continued exercise actually helped it in the long run and eventually the problem became manageable as long as I remembered to avoid certain things that would aggravate it. Unfortunately, what had been an injury in remission flared up about 10 days ago while sitting at my desk (I know, Ha ha). I have not slept well for over a week now and find the most discomfort driving and just sitting in general. I am curious if anyone has had a similar injury and what they have done to ease the pain. Also curious to hear anyone else with lingering injuries and how they have treated them over the years.

hi8is Goes to Chicago
QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) April 6th - April 14th How many tickets do you need for games and do you have preferences which games to attend? I might be able to help you out with my season tickets. The April games after the first series are not always as coveted so maybe I could get you handful from my partners at face. PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

I would buy the cheapest ticket and let that determine which airport. However, I personally prefer Midway over O'Hare. If you can catch a flight on SW Airlines, that will probably end up being your cheapest option and land you in Midway anyway.

Crede to retire
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) I agree. Watching him and Uribe gobble up everything in site that series was a thing of beauty. But the writing has been on the wall for a while. I wish Joe well. He was clearly the MVP of the 2005 postseason overall and easily could have gotten the nod in the WS, but JD had a great series as well. Sad to see Joe hang em up so early in his career.

Ozzie Roast
It is kind of funny that no one seems to have noticed that Ozzie might have learned his lesson or at least that Oney went so far this time that even his dad didn't have his back. Since the whole Jenks Oney thing started, Ozzie has kept his mouth shut. Even when asked fairly direct questions, he took the high road regarding Jenks's comments and has been very tight lipped about Oney, only going so far as saying that the twitter comments crossed the line. Beyond that, he has been persona non grata on this whole fiasco. Maybe he is letting Oney be his mouth or maybe he knows he needs to keep Oney at arms length and just keep his comments related to managing the team. As far as the roast goes, Oney is still his son and was going to at least be invited and possibly have a part of the evening's events. It is not as if Ozzie would ban him from such a social event. I am not sure if Ozzie even planned the roast lineup. I am catiously optimistic that Ozzie has handled this behind closed doors and it will stay there.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) But that doesn't change the fact that Oney knows what he knows because of the position his father holds with the White Sox. It's not as if Oney would know Jenks otherwise. It's not as if the White Sox would have hired Oney otherwise. He knows what he knows because of who his father is, and if his father wants to keep his job, he might want to make sure details about the players' lives are not made public over Twitter. Yeah, but with that said, he did make the call on Blum in Game 3 of the WS. That was the pinnacle of Oney's baseball career and we/he will always have that.

Ron Santo has passed away.
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) I think people also have an issue with the way he pleaded and begged to be in the Hall of Fame. It's one thing when fans/writers campaign for a player to be voted in, but when a player does that much, I don't think people like it. There's other players in a similar position as him and I don't think you hear them complain anywhere as much. ^^^^This. I am sort of ashamed to say it, but when my coworker alerted me to Santo's passing, my first response dripping with sarcasm was "I guess now he'll finally get into the HOF." I did not wish him ill health or death and feel for his family like I would for anyone losing a loved one. However, from a baseball standpoint, he was an atrocious announcer and an unconscionable self promoter for the HOF. Yes, Bernstein can be a jerk, but I do respect the fact that he will not waiver on an opinion just because someone who he criticized gets sick or dies. Too many people change their stance and start making someone on to be a saint because they have an ailment.
