  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Or he could have just been implying that he was a s***ty umpire, which he was last night. Or that that there is a back story where the umpire had a score to settle for past arguments. Plenty of ex-players have stories about an argument with an ump resulting in a deliberate bias against a player or team for some set period of time. Joe West is another great example.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) jordan4life, first time I'll ever agree with you. You are free to like what you like. Purveyors of any product love the kind of group think going on in response to your post. They send their kids to college ten times over on it. Uh...No. The reaction is not about "group think". It is one of the world's most lucrative business markets... One 2006 estimate has the global porn industry at $97 billion in revenues. Although piracy is eating into the profits of more traditional outlets like paid online subscriptions and DVDs, underpaid porn stars and nearly infinite distribution channels ensure that the industry remains strong. Everyone from Verizon (smartphone porn) to Marriott (pay-per-porn) profits off the stuff. According to one estimate, 28,000 Internet users are watching porn every second. Adult-oriented video games, magazines, anime and manga also diversify porn’s income channels. Even though the economies of porn market leaders Great Britain, South Korea, and the US have have slumped, peoples’ sex drive hasn’t. http://www.businesspundit.com/the-worlds-m...siness-markets/ I am not saying everyone must like porn (or be labeled weird) just because it is so popular, but I really don't think the tongue in cheek comments were any more than humor among fellow Sox fans.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Ha. That was actually kinda clever. But for real. Porn disgusts me. I take it your wife/girlfriend is also a member of Soxtalk?
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) I've always hated the Oakland A's and their lousy GM. This^^^ Not sure about the GM, but I can't count the number of times I went to sleep angry, well after midnight, due to the A's stealing a game late against the Sox in Oakland. Like the Twins of the west coast. Still pissed at Dave Stewart's comments about the Sox and his jock, too.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) I say we just hit the gas and catch the Yankees and Rangers for best record in the league. Well then, I guess there's only one thing left to do. What's that? Win the whole f***in' thing!
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) Will go to my grave saying that we'd have won the division if we'd actually played Anderson in CF as a regular starter rather than as a part time platoon player with Mackowiak's incredibly awful defense killing us out there. Yes, the advanced stats don't say it cost us more than a game or so...every time Mack was out there, he killed us. Agree. What I remember is the offense was much better than 2005, at least for the first half, but the bullpen was not nearly as strong. The OF defense in the second half was killing us, shortening the starters innings and taxing the bullpen even further. Everything just ground to a halt by the end of the season.
  7. Funny. To me, his comments about A-Rod were totally reasonable. It was the opining on the validity of certain hall of famers that stuck in my craw. I was too young to see him in Oakland and NY, but some people might say he became a fairly washed up old man at the tail of his time in NY and in California that was padding his career HR (and stikeout) totals.
  8. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) When they sent him down did he do a lip sync version of a Ray Charles song? Wow! Only a true fan of The Cosby Show (and TV Junkie) would remember this piece of television history....
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) Greg...I don't make personal attacks, but you are the stupidest person in the history of the internet. I can't even fathom this and its posts like this that really prove the fact that you are either (a) that stupid or (b) the biggest troll in the history of Soxtalk. We have a winner!!!
  10. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 01:35 AM) Thats quite a story. I think I like him more now knowing he's a Jew and not a Greek. Do explain.
  11. If you ignore the monster, it will go away and stop bothering you (and everyone else near you). Please ignore the monster.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) Ozzie thinks Pants Rowland was a mediocre manager. Because he sucked at dominoes?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) Also fixed. Oney is now your source as well?
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) De Aza is the third most valuable OFer in the AL. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&players=0 Too bad that means nothing to fans. ASG voting is a little like the NCAA tourney selection in that there is a bubble of sorts. The big difference is NCAA bubble teams control their own destiny. Win your conference tourney and you are in. If not, some last place school might get hot and you're out. Unfortunately, with the ASG, the bubble includes a lot of far more deserving performers who get bumped out by fan voting. If a struggling player gets voted in by fans during a down year, the most deserving player might get in via player/manager selections and then the De Azas of the world get shuffled down the roster until their best shot is the final vote, if they're lucky. The current web setup allows you to select a team logo to highlight all their players. To me, that blatantly favors teams with bigger fan bases and encourages stupid fans to vote blindly. With that said, I actually do not mind fan voting but believe paper ballots should finally be eliminated and replaced with computer kiosks. These kiosks and the website should still break the "ballot" down by league and position, but should also automatically show player statistics, sortable by category. Right now, although comparisons are available, the website is difficult for a voter to compare and vote at the same time. I believe it is somewhat deliberate in order to favor teams with bigger fan bases (ie for future ratings). The ballot can still initially list players randomly (alphabetical, by team, division, team standings, etc.) in order to show no favoritism, but make comparison easy. You will still get fans voting for their historical favorite teams and players, but it might influence enough voters to switch toward more deserving players.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) Peavy is up after this year, why drop a guy pitching like an ace when you're the hottest team in baseball? You are a f***ing joke. You are a f***ing moniker. I do not believe you are actually a White Sox fan, you just take an unpopular stance, add "World Series 2005" and fake it. F*ck, cut it out. The last thing the White Sox should do is trade Jake when he's outdueling Felix f***ing Hernandez and we're in 1st place and EVERYTHING is going right. :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) Good Bye, Lenin! LOL Great film.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ May 30, 2012 -> 05:11 PM) You know, you can just put your responses to each quote between the quotes. It's a pain to keep scrolling up and down to see what you're responding to. It just pains me to read his comments anyway. Put him on ignore and enjoy life more.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) There was a bit of a beanballish war that happened today. Gordo got his with an 0-2 pitch in the first, probably not on purpose. AJ got drilled in the back, totally on purpose. After that Zobrist had a pitch thrown behind him, with the starting pitcher Quintana ejected without a warning. The DeAza play came after all of that. No word as of yet to the extent of the injury, but it didn't appear to be serious. Thanks. Y'all are awesome. I can go back to half assing it at work now.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) He was hit in the knee on a pick off throw attempt from the pitcher at 2B. He limped off of the field under his own power and was replaced by Lillibridge. Some have speculated (including Buster Olney) that there was some intent to it. Thanks. So he is not necessarily hurt but removed as a precautionary measure, at least as far as we know right now? I assume the reason for the potential intent would be retribution for the AJ spiking in game 1?
  20. Can someone please explain what happened to De Aza today? Thanks.
  21. Lots of good memories mentioned in here. Anyone remember the 1996 team that had a 22-2 or 24-2 stretch? It was the best run I had seen by a Sox team in my life. They came back to earth and Cleveland ended up winning the division, but it made things interesting and people were thinking 1995 was just an aberration.
  22. Looking at the best candidates for the starting 9, it looks like an early conspiracy with Texas Rangers fans may benefit the Sox, if they are game. -They promise to vote Konerko and either AJ and/or Dunn -We promise to vote Hamilton (no brainer) along with Beltre and Kinsler. The pitch being, why vote for those overrated/overspending bastards in NYC/Boston/LAA.? Maybe Cano is a little better than Kinsler and the Trumbo better than Beltre, but not so much so that they deserve it over the Rangers players. So, who has the phone number for their fan representative?
